Beefy Smash Doods analyze what Super Smash Bros. for Wii U characters are best at saving their doubles allies

Getting hit at a high enough percentage is not enough to mean you’ll die in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Not in doubles play, at least! In this 2 vs. 2 mode, your teammate can position themselves in a way to save you from certain death, provided they are sharp and know their character’s options.

While Beefy Smash Doods‘s latest video can’t give you a good teammate, it does give a thorough analysis of Smash 4 characters to determine which ones are best at saving their teammates from losing a stock. Command grabs and multi-hitting moves reign supreme on this list, thanks to their ability to stop momentum. Check out the video to see not only what characters made the list, but a thorough examination of their strengths and weaknesses in saving.

Don’t let the ride ever stop with this Abigail wakeup guide for Street Fighter V

Early Abigail dominance has proven to be representative of one of Street Fighter V‘s most controversial characters. Namely: insane comeback potential. This character, despite some weaknesses, has pulled off some of the most jaw-dropping comebacks at SFV’s high levels of play — and very early in his lifespan.

rooflemonger‘s latest video breaks down why that’s possible. This high-damage, high-health monster can cut down a lot of wake-up options efficiently, giving him a terrifying, momentum based wake-up game.

Balrog and TJ Combo box for supremacy on the latest edition of Death Battle

Over the course of their Death Battle series, ScrewAttack have featured several matchups between fighting game characters, such as Sol Badguy vs. Ragna the Bloodedge, Ryu vs. Scorpion, and in an episode of Death Battle X, Noel Vermillion vs. Aigis.

Their most recent episode pits the signature boxers of Street Fighter and Killer Instinct, Balrog and TJ Combo, in a three-round bout for 2D punching supremacy. After going over the two fighters’ respective backgrounds — noting that the “Dirty Buffalo” is a Slugger, while TJ’s style is that of an Out-Boxer — we see the two duke it out in the ring.

Capcom releases the full story trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

With just over a month to go until the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Capcom have released a full story trailer for the crossover fighter. Showing off Jedah, Dormammu, Ghost Rider and Firebrand ahead of Gamescom, this Story Mode summary hints at the true scale of MvC:I’s plot.

Jedah is a main villain in MvC:I, conspiring with Dormammu to unleash a giant Symbiote beast to stop the Marvel and Capcom heroes from taking the Soul Stone. As heroes like Haggar and Spider-Man are beaten back, Ghost Rider flies in with Morrigan to fight the malevolent vampire. Based on this trailer, the Story Mode will have us hopping between different missions, as our heroes try to stop both Ultron-Sigma and other villains from claiming the remaining Infinity Stones.

Other things to note in this trailer are the appearance of Dr. Light from the Megaman series — and that Capcom have finally fixed Chun-Li’s face! Producer Mike Evans had promised that Chun-Li’s character model would be improved in time for MvC:I’s launch, and Capcom looks to have delivered on that promise.

Capcom have also revealed the suite of modes that will be available when MvC:I launches in September. Alongside Story Mode, you’ve got the standard single player selection of Arcade Mode, Training Mode, tutorial missions, character challenges and the Dr. Light Database — basically MvC:I’s art and music collection. As for online modes, the big standout is the Beginners League, which allows players between ranks 1-14 to play in a special training league. For those who are still learning the ropes, this seems like a great way to find your footing before you set off into the wilds of Ranked play.

Jedah, Dormammu, Ghost Rider, and Firebrand bring the launch roster of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite up to 30 characters, with six more to come via the game’s season pass. Based on previous leaks and announcements from Capcom, we know at least five of the six characters. They are:

  • Black Panther
  • Sigma
  • Winter Soldier
  • A Monster Hunter
  • Venom

There is still one character up in the air, but we’ll no doubt find out who they are in the coming months. If you want to get your hands on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite before its September 19th launch, it will be playable at Toronto Fan Expo, PAX West, as well as Sony’s Road to Greatness games tour. For all the dates on the Road to Greatness tour, check out the official tour site.

Captain Cold has guaranteed damage off of a pseudo-infinite in Injustice 2

While the recent patch to Injustice 2 have seen the mighty fall — see: Aquaman — new tech is being discovered with other characters that may see their stock rise considerably. Take Captain Cold for instance, as Echo Fox|SonicFox has been in the lab with the character recently. He has found a pseudo-infinite with the character, that takes full advantage of the character’s freezes.

He does later explain that the pseudo-infinite fails if the opponent jumps out of it, or backdashes. Even doing this guarantees that they will take damage.

Given that SonicFox previously didn’t rate Captain Cold in his top 10, it will be interesting to see if these discoveries make any difference.

Maximilian breaks down the insane gameplay moments that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s new mechanics bring

When we first got word of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s gameplay systems, many were concerned that the game would be a “watered down” installment of the series. The news that Capcom was adding in mechanics for casuals, while trimming the game down to 2-on-2 and removing assists, had many worried. Happily, the subsequent gameplay demos at events have proven these fears unfounded.

In this new video, Maximilian goes over the mechanics that allow Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite to retain the crazy fast and creative gameplay that the series is known for — mechanics such as the new “active switch” tag system, and the “counter switch” system that allows players to try to save a character being comboed by bringing their second character in. Along the way, he also points out how these mechanics actually make the game not as casual-friendly as Capcom seems to imply that it is.

The meat of the video though is dedicated to a slow-motion breakdown of a moment from one of his streams. The moment in particular revolves around Max’s opponent counter-switching during an air combo, and Max subsequently tagging in his second character, creating a brief moment when all four characters are on screen. Max goes over the implications of counter-switch and, when combined with the game’s heavy damage scaling, how it makes the game revolve more around going for resets (similar to MvC2) or baiting out counter switch attempts, instead of simply burning meter for more damage, as was the case with the previous game.

sigmaG19 remakes some of Street Fighter’s classic character-specific intros

Appearing in the Alpha series along with Street Fighter III, certain characters would have special introductions when they met in battle. Ryu and Ken would fist bump, Hugo and Alex would re-enact the famous Andre the Giant/Hulk Hogan standoff, and so on. While only being small animations, they added some character to certain match-ups and reminded players of the lore surrounding the Street Fighter series.

While special intros still appear in games like Injustice 2, they have all but disappeared from modern Street Fighter games. Hoping to inject some of that lost character back into the series, sigmaG19 has remade some of his favorite special intros, using models from Street Fighter IV and V. Fingers crossed that Capcom takes notice and brings these beloved animations back for the rumored Super Street Fighter V expansion.

Capcom UK dares players to complete the “Die 2000 Deaths!” Street Fighter challenge

With Akuma being in both Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, Capcom UK has created a bit of a challenge for skilled practitioners of the Satsui no Hado. Through some careful arcade stick modding, it is possible to wire up your stick to play both games at the same time. As the Raging Demon input is the same across both games, you can essentially perform a double Raging Demon with careful timing.

Naming it the “Die 2000 Deaths!” challenge, Capcom UK tasked players like Tyrant, Shoryusengan, and even Yoshinori Ono himself to complete this devious task. You can check out their attempts in the video below — and if you think you can do better, make sure to leave a comment with your Double Demon attempt. If you’ve got the hardware, maybe set up Ultra Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and see if you can pull off a Quadruple Demon!
