Twitter roundup: The first day of BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s 2.0 arcade patch

The 2.0 update to BlazBlue: Central Fiction just hit arcades in Japan (as well as cabinets around the world that use the NESICA Live system), so players are busy discovering the changes. Beyond what’s said in the patch notes, it turns out that there’s quite a lot of new things to discover. Sometimes, some very small modifications can completely alter or enable brand new tech. Here’s a sample of some of the interesting changes players found so far:

Here’s an important universal change: as stated in the BlazBlue patch notes, Exceed Accel attacks are a lot less safe now. If blocked, they are “at least -9 frames,” according to Minami. You’re also in counter-hit state.

We saw this coming, but this is still hilarious to see:

This is what Jubei looks like when Amane uses his Astral Heat on him. Adorable!

Speaking of Amane, here’s just how much the chip damage has improved on his Spiral attacks:

You can also optimize your combos on Jubei, since he has more hit-stun than other characters; it’s as if he’s considered a crouching character.

Excited for some Kagura buffs? Here’s some brand new stuff from the Black Knight. Check out this player’s timeline for a lot more Kagura clips.

Here’s a new deathloop from Hakumen. It’s all the same to the receiving player, isn’t it?

In case you were curious: yes, Carl can still do unblockable loops on you. They cost more resources though, and do less damage.

Nine’s level 2 spells changed up a bit.

Susano’o’s moves are faster now:

Aganos and Mira Ultimates revealed for Killer Instinct Season 3 as part of the “Ultimates Monster Pack”

Following the release of Eagle to the roster back in June, the content just keeps coming for Iron Galaxy’s Killer Instinct, as the “Ultimates Monster Pack” will be arriving on August 22nd, bearing the iconic finishers for Aganos, Mira, Hisako, Glacius and Sabrewulf. It will be free for all players. As was the case with the last batch, Ultra-Combo.com will be releasing and highlighting one Ultimate each week, as a countdown to the pack’s official release. Today we’ve got the first two Ultimates revealed for this pack, for Aganos and Mira.

First up, the rocky warrior rolls over his foes, encases them in a prison of Chunks, and proceeds to bowl them over with his enormous frame, reducing his enemy to a mere pile of rubble. Meanwhile, the vampiric Mira begins by slicing her opponent’s throat, before nailing them in the back, and finally sucking their blood from their necks off-camera, complete with a slurping sound effect.

You can see videos of both Ultimates below, and don’t forget to check back over the next three weeks for Hisako’s, Glacius’, and Saberwulf’s.

What do you think of the two Ultimates revealed so far? Are you looking forward to the three yet to come in the upcoming pack? Let us know in the comments section.

Killer Instinct is now available for Xbox One and Windows 10. A Steam version was announced at CEO 2017, with release details forthcoming later this year.

Morrigan’s new move in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite lets her turn all her Soul Fists into Soul Drains

As some of you may have noticed, Morrigan has gained a new move in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Called “Harmonious Spear,” a move whose effects many prospective players have been wondering about. Well, wonder no more: ChromeAlchemist has posted a breakdown of the move from a recent playtest in the UK.

Harmonious Spear is a projectile of sorts, that can sit on screen before it releases a spear that, on hit, applies a debuff to Morrigan’s opponent. The projectile itself is a special case as, unlike most projectiles, it cannot be reflected by a perfect pushblock. To counter this, the projectile itself can be destroyed by any attack before the spear is triggered, or if Morrigan herself gets hit.

The interesting part about the move however is the debuff (represented by bats hovering around the affected character) that it applies. When her opponent is afflicted by it, it seems that it allows Morrigan’s Soul Fist projectiles to steal meter from her opponents, similar to her Soul Drain from the previous game. However, unlike that move, it does not seem to drain the opponent’s meter by itself. Additionally, simply tagging out will remove the debuff from the character.

Take note that with the game still in development, the properties of the debuff might still change. Whether or not these flaws remain when the game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 19 remains to be seen.

First BlazBlue: Central Fiction 2.0 gameplay footage shows patch changes, Jubei matches

The BlazBlue: Central Fiction 2.0 patch is hitting arcades shortly, and with it, a host of changes as well as Jubei. While there’s definitely plenty of excitement for the new character, there are 35 other fighters who have a varying amount of modifications.

The official Arc System Works livestream presented a Jubei overview first, detailing his move set, which happens in the first ten minutes or so. The next two hours or so run sets, showcasing most of the characters from the cast. Not everyone gets a spotlight, but we see plenty of Jubei action. There’s also some Amane versus Tager, multiple Es matches, Hakumen, Susano’o, Lambda, Kagura, Jin, Ragna, Arakune, and a Nine vs. Izanami later on in the video. Jubei even faces the other “cat fighter” in the game, Taokaka.

Get in on your opponent with this ambiguous cross-up option select for Catwoman in Injustice 2

After the latest round of balance patches, many people may be thinking that Catwoman has been left in the dust in Injustice 2. However, this wily cat still has some claws.

In this new video from UltraChen, James Chen details a new option select for Catwoman that involves her two strings that start off with the light attack, or “1” button: forward 1, 1, 2, 3 and back 1, 2, down 3 (2 is medium attack, 3 is heavy). The option select works off an ambiguous cross-up that results in one of the two strings coming out, depending on where the player lands — with one of the strings having an attack that must be blocked low, adding a second layer to the mix-up if the defending player guesses the cross-up correctly.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite: Spider-Man, Hiryu, Nemesis, Gamora, Dr. Strange, Ultron, X, & Captain Marvel SDCC footage

Last week, we shared a number of direct capture videos of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite that Maximilian recorded at the San Diego Comic-Con. Alongside these, Max also mentioned that he still had some extra footage from the event. Now, he’s compiled this extra footage into yet another long video!

The video below combines a number of combo demonstrations by the Capcom reps (including jumping fierce punch air-dash loops for Captain Marvel and Ultron) at the show, alongside more full matches. The matches in question see Max taking Strider Hiryu with X or Nemesis against teams of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man, Strider Hiryu and Gamora, and even Strider Hiryu and Doctor Strange. Along the way, they show off some interesting combos and possible synergy for the teams in questions.

Street Fighter V’s Abigail video roundup: Juggle resets, cross-unders, jump-cancel specials, and more!

Street Fighter V‘s Abigail: whatever your opinion of the controversial car-mimicking Canadian is, it’s clear from the work players are putting in that he has a ton of potential.

76Kelvinator has some juggle resets that will liquidate the opponent’s life bar in just a few guesses.

Cangu also has some great resets for Abigail, including cross-unders.

TheBeastsInc wants to remind you that Abigail does not care about Ed’s V-Trigger.

rooflemonger notes that because of Abigail’s slower jump, Abigail can use his pre-jump frames to add throw invincibility to his special moves.

Arlieth did some math and found out that, post-Critical Art, a perfectly timed dash > command grab will beat reversal buttons on wake up.

Lastly, if the above is a little over your head and you’re just looking for a place to start, Agni Kai Gaming‘s beginner’s guide will teach you everything you need to know to start driving.

Jubei overview video showcases the master’s prowess in the BlazBlue: Central Fiction update

Are you ready for the cat sensei? Jubei has plenty of hype behind him, and from what we can finally see in a video overview by Arc System Works, he lives up to it!

At last, we have a longer, more detailed look at what exactly Jubei does in a fight. Movement-wise, Jubei’s backdash can be performed out of a run in a way that crosses-up the opponent. He can also start running forward a lot faster if he does his regular backdash.

Jubei has two parry moves, forward A and forward B, and they target low or mid attacks. He can combo out of them. The Drive, “Shiranui,” marks the opponent. This interacts with one of his Distortion Drives, which will cross-up teleport the enemy if they’re marked. If Jubei uses his install-type Distortion Drive, “Immobility: Silk Lotus Formation,” his Drive changes to allow him to set up four marks on the screen. He dashes rapidly to those. The rest of his move set is also empowered, allowing him to do more follow-up attacks.

Two weaknesses that we can see outright are: very short attack range, and as demonstrated with a Ragna combo, and it appears that Jubei is in a “perma-crouching state,” at least for combo purposes. That means that other characters can automatically do their crouching confirms on him.

If you want to see his full move list with explained and translated attacks, check out the BlazBlue Wikia Jubei page.

I mean, look at that backwalk animation. You wouldn’t hit a kitty, would you?

Jubei is arriving shortly to BlazBlue: Central Fiction arcade cabinets — dated August 3rd. We have no console version confirmation yet.

Use Yoshimitsu’s 1+4 Flash to interrupt strings no other character can in Tekken 7

In Tekken 7, the fastest moves for every character are 10 frames — with one sword wielding exception. Yoshmitsu’s 1+4, known as “Flash,” beats the standard jab speed, and has quite a lot of versatility in use.

As SutekiChannel demonstrates, this attack comes in two flavors: standard Flash is 6 frames but has almost no range, and No-Sword Stance (or NSS) Flash is 8 frames but has more range. Both versions are combo starting mids. Though the above video demonstrates how Yoshimitsu can interrupt and punish Alisa in particular, the principal is the same for all characters: this swordsman doesn’t have to respect as many strings as other characters do, and NSS Flash in particular is one of the best punishment tools in the game.

Punk, Smug, Danslip, and Idom duke it out in these Street Fighter V finals matches from Defend the North 2017

This past past weekend saw some of the hottest Street Fighter V action around with Defend the North 2017. With the event taking place in New York City, many of the top players from the northeast and East Coast converged on the Big Apple to to compete for the championship.

At the end of the day, it was big names that were left standing with Panda Global’s Evo 2017 Street Fighter V runner-up Victor “Punk” Woodley, alongside RISE Nation’s Bryant “Smug” Huggins. The real star of the show however was New York’s rising star Derek “Idom” Ruffin.

While not as well-known as the other two, Idom has already made a name for himself among the New York and East Coast players with some impressive wins at the weekly Next Level Battle Circuit tournaments. This all comes to head as he takes on Punk, forcing him into the losers bracket where he has to face Danny “Danslip” Ortiz, who himself had just taken out Smug in the losers semi-finals.

For those who missed the action, Team Spooky has uploaded the finals matches from Defend the North onto their channel. Did Punk get his rematch against Idom? Did the rising Laura star finally get his big win? Find out in the matches below.
