Secktor K Games reveals teaser trailer for Punch Planet’s newest character, Tyara

If you’re in Las Vegas and at Evo 2017, you have the opportunity to play the in-development indie fighter Punch Planet. Sector-K Games is (wisely) using Evo as the launch pad for their latest character, the Amazonian Princess Tyara. For those of us that can’t make it to the floor, though, they’ve put together this teaser to show us what we’re missing:

Tyara is a (giant) Amazonian Warrior fitting the role of the game’s grappler. Her brutal moves, comically lackadaisical prance, teleporting weapons and retro sci-fi design make her stand out positively in a game already noted for its unique visual flair.

Looking at her from a gameplay standpoint, she boasts some great looking long range normals, a jumping air grab, charging shield bash, charged armor moves, and a signature command grab. Using the game’s cancel system allows her to cancel the command grab’s last hit and tag on a stylish elbow drop on the fallen opponent. Overall, she seems like a great spin on the grappler archetype.

ETC|McFly demonstrates some combos for Omen of Sorrow’s new character Zafkiel

As previously reported, AOne Games brought the latest build of Omen of Sorrow to Evo 2017 for everyone at the event to try out. However, some players have got a chance to try the game out early.

ETC’s McFly was given the chance to try out the latest build of the game, including newly announced character Zafkiel. As such, he’s put together this (off screen) combo video showing us just a bit of what this new character can do.

VesperArcade discusses the latest leaks and rumors surrounding Abigail in Street Fighter V

With Evo now upon us and Capcom set to make several announcements, despite their canceled panel, VesperArcade takes a look at all of the latest leaks and speculation surrounding the likely third Season 2 character for Street Fighter V, Final Fight’s Abigail.

Noting that Capcom has recently changed the profile picture and cover photo for the Official Street Fighter Facebook Page–something the company did when Kolin and Ed’s reveals approached–Vesper points out that the new background looks very 80s and Final Fight-esque, with its neon lights and brick wall. He also points out the recent leak on the CFN Portal site of what appears to be a Character Data page for Abigail, with the initials, “abg,” that has since been taken down. The larger silhouette reveals that the new fighter will be absolutely massive, with a Mohawk and spiked collar, further pointing to the Canadian Mad Gear lieutenant.

Vesper also discusses his thoughts on how the towering Canadian will play, as well as the potential announcement of a Super Street Fighter V and more, below.

It may not be Metro City, but the lighting and grimy atmosphere fits Abigail’s ’80s aesthetic. The Street Fighter Twitter has also confirmed that the next Season 2 character will be revealed during SFV Top 8 on Sunday, so expect Abigail to appear then.

JoshProd’s new Dreamcast port of Breakers will be available at Evo 2017 via VideoGamesNewYork

A while back we covered one of the stranger announcements to come across this site: a modern re-release of SNK’s Breakers on the Sega Dreamcast. Well, it looks like the French published port will be available on the floor Evo this year.

The game is showing up courtesy of VideoGamesNewYork, a gaming store from East Village, New York. Their site mentions they offer their customers a “personalized service, very different from the cold and aseptic chain stores.” I absolutely believe them if they are the sort to show up to Evo with a stack newly printed Dreamcast discs in 2017.

Persona Entertainment throws down with these Clark combos for King of Fighters XIV

Persona Entertainment is some back with more crispy King of Fighters XIV combos. His latest entry is for the burly solider, Clark Still.

One of King of Fighters XIV’s iconic grapplers, Clark benefited heavily in the latest 2.01 patch from a new super cancel off of his command grab follow up “Flashing Elbow”. His buff to his health and his special move “Gatling Attack” getting reduced recovery frames certainly didn’t hurt him either. Combining that with a better hurtbox on Step and hitbox on his heavy kick, the version 2 patches have overall been very kind to Clark’s combo possibilities and neutral.

Check out Dora’s Bang training and matches in preparation for the BlazBlue: Central Fiction Evo Championship

Dora is one of the more outspoken Japanese BlazBlue players. Famous for his Bang, he frequently streams on Twitch and shares his knowledge with the rest of the world. He will make an appearance at the upcoming Evolution Championships, so keep an eye out for his tricky Bang and his occasional Mu-12.

Dora has streamed and uploaded several FT10s to his channel, so there’s plenty of high-level play to watch. This set is between him and gerosyabu, a Litchi player. It’s definitely not a frequently seen match-up, so it’s a good opportunity to learn about it.

Another exciting FT10 happened with Nezu. Nezu is an excellent Hibiki player, a seemingly popular character but one that we don’t really see much in tournaments, actually. Dora uses both Bang and Mu-12 against him, and then later he netplays some other folks. We will see Nezu at Evolution as well!

desk kicks some ice with Sub-Zero in his latest Injustice 2 combo showcase

With Sub-Zero skating onto the Injustice 2 roster, combo monster and editing wizard desk has been hard at work pushing the Lin Kuei grandmaster to his limit. According to desk, Sub-Zero is the “most fun combo character” he has played in Injustice 2, and it shows with some of the ridiculous sequences in this video.

It’s got everything–we’re talking Interactable combos, Ice Clone traps, multi-freeze setups along with desk’s trademark editing style. While you won’t be seeing Sub-Zero taking the stage at Evo, I can’t wait for the first tournament where the frozen shinobi can cut loose.

Omen of Sorrow will be playable at Evo 2017

The last time we saw the horror-themed fighting game Omen of Sorrow, developer AOne Games was still showing footage from an old build from PSX 2016. Now, players will have a chance to not only see a new build, but also try it out at the biggest fighting game event of the year.

AOne Games has confirmed that Omen of Sorrow will be at Evo 2017. They will be showing off a new playable build of the game that features the previously-revealed Caleb and Gabriel, updated vampire character Vladislav, and new character Zafkiel.

In their press release, combat designer Felix Muñoz had this to say on development of the game and fighting games in general: “A fighting game engine has very specific and strict needs that need to be solved in order to deliver a top-quality experience the community has come to expect; to have a constant 60 fps frame rate, deterministic physics, and consistent collisions has allowed us to develop a precise and fast paced gameplay we strived for.”

Muñoz continues saying, “We’ve got the certainty that players will enjoy what we’ll show at Evo, our next challenge is to finalize our custom matchmaking server to avoid the problems other fighting game titles have suffered. Fortunately Microsoft Azure has placed their trust upon us, so we’ll be able to use their global infrastructure to provide a superior quality experience.” Omen of Sorrow also plans to make use of GGPO netcode.

Omen of Sorrow will be playable at booth #110 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center this weekend at Evo 2017. In the meantime, check out some updated gameplay footage from the new build!
