FGpop shares more Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers combos, including a Moku/Marisa Touch of Death

The people that play Touhou games are wildly dedicated to the franchise they love. It’s probably no surprise then that merely days after a difficult-to-obtain demo for the Marvel-esque Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers was released, we’ve got incredibly high damage combo videos showing up in our tip-box here at SRK.

FGpop has shared with us two combo videos from the demo. The first one is innocuous enough, showing off the combo potential of the series’s new tag mechanic.

…but with the right resources an positioning, this Mokou/Marisa combo truly inherits the spirit of Marvel.  How common 100%s will be int he final build is obviously anyone’s guess, but if this is showing up in the demo this early, there’s obviously more to be found in the future.

And rest assured, Touhou fans will find it.

Lazy Game Reviews looks at the life and death of MadCatz

MadCatz has been a beloved name in the FGC for the past decade, so the company’s declaration of Chapter 7 bankruptcy caught many off guard. The company was driving force in the arcade stick market, one that pushed itself and its competitors to new heights in the past few years.

In a new edition of their LGR Tech Tales series, Lazy Game Reviews looks at the rise and fall of MadCatz. Here, they cover the company’s 30 year history from its roots as a start up in Hong Kong, to its spotty past releasing budget peripherals, to the heights releasing quality, officially licensed controllers for fighting and music games–the latter of which are generally perceived as what helped kill the business–and everything in between.

Gatoray demonstrates super punishes versus Whip’s movelist in King of Fighters XIV

Do you feel like Whip players get away with too much on your block? If you have a fast super, you might just be right!

Many of Whip’s specials and longer range normals have significant recovery, but range prevents many characters from punishing. As Gatoray demonstrates though, fast dashing supers should reach her. An obvious example? Iori’s EX “Kin 1211 Shiki · Yaotome”. This 4-frame super shuts down a lot of her more annoying pokes, once you have 2-bars or more.

Marvel at the swag combos that Urien pulls off in this Street Fighter V combo video

Urien’s Aegis Reflector has always been a tool for creating some creative and damaging setups and combos ever since the Street Fighter III series. In Street Fighter V, that has been emphasized further thanks to it becoming a V-Trigger, allowing him more creative avenues with more meter.

In this new combo video, Rotbah focuses on some of the insane and creative things that Urien can do with his Aegis Reflector. With this video, the emphasis is on style, with meter being spent to create some creative looking juggles that players wouldn’t normally use in a match.

Daniel “Tafokints” Lee talks about the importance of spectators in Super Smash Bros. Melee for Yahoo! Esports

Daniel “Tafokints” Lee is back with another Melee Science video, and he’s talking about a topic that extends far beyond Super Smash Bros. Melee. He discusses “pot monsters” and spectators, the driving force of tournament revenue for top players and sponsors alike.

In a double-elimination tournament, half of your entrants are out after 1st round of losers bracket. As Melee (and all FGC games) grow, maintaining the interest of these players in some way is vital to the continued success of the scene. Tafokints speaks to this, and points out how larger tournaments are handling this: for example, Evo’s panels, or Civil War’s bar.

Nev explains the power of Ryu’s jab Shoryuken on offense and defense in Street Fighter V

Andrew “Nev” Murphy has created two quick analysis videos that show off the value of using more jab Shoryukens with Ryu, both offensively and defensively.

The first video covers the jab Shoryuken’s ability to trade or blow up strings with 2 frame gaps. While Ryu is the main focus, Nev also goes on to show some other possibilities with Necalli and Akuma.

For offense, though, it’s all about Ryu. Nev shows off some nice meaty timings post-jab Shoryuken that blow up most reversal options. He makes a strong argument for trading the damage from a Tatsu ender for the pressure gained from jab Shoryuken.

Learn how to play Vanessa in The King of Fighters XIV with Frionel’s 3-part guide

Of the four DLC characters added into The King of Fighters XIV, Vanessa is likely one of the less straightforward ones to pick up and play. Her reliance on staying up close to try to get in and score a stun means that it takes a bit of study to learn how to play her well.

For those looking to learn Vanessa, Frionel has put together a 3-part tutorial series designed to teach players the ins and outs of the character. The first part of the series focuses on combos: arguably the part most people want to get to.

Combos alone, however, aren’t enough to be successful with a character–which is where the second part come in, as they focus on her setups and frame traps.

Part three is a bit more advanced, as it explores the different ways that she can stun her opponent–depending on how she opens them up.
