Learn your mixups with The King of Fighters XIV’s four newcomers

As you may know, The King of Fighters XIV received four new characters earlier this month. While these four characters are fan favorites and have shown a lot of potential, we still haven’t really seen much of them in high-level play, as players are still figuring out how to properly use them.

For those players who are looking to use them, Gatoray has put together a video showcasing the mixups that they can perform. The mixups in the video below run the range from simple things that the overall game system allows, to more unique setups based on the unique options that these characters possess. It’s a good watch for anyone thinking of adding any of these characters into their team.

Punish V-Reversal escapes with Alex and Akuma in Street Fighter V

Don’t let victory slip through your fingers!

Street Fighter V’s V-Reversals typically either push the opponent away with a grey-life attack, or move the defender away from (or though) the attacker via some sort of escape maneuver. If you’re looking for some techniques to keep that pressure on (and you play Alex, or Akuma), The Prince has you covered in these two videos–demonstrating a variety of punishes for the Lion and the Demon against escape-type V-Reversals throughout the cast. Don’t let them get away!

Pokkén Tournament pro BadIntent breaks down the Shadow Mewtwo vs. Blaziken matchup

There are few people that can speak with authority on the subject of high-level Blaziken and Shadow Mewtwo, and even fewer that have successful tournament experience with either of these characters. Omari “BadIntent” Travis is an accomplished player of both characters, so there’s likely no one better-equipped to talk about a matchup between the two.

Though you could simply sum both characters up as “glass cannon,” BadIntent breaks down the intricacies of the footsie and strategy games going on between these two powerhouses. There’s a lot of substance and optimal information here, and anyone looking for insight on how to fight either character can stand to benefit from this pro’s invaluable knowledge.

A Street Fighter player’s guide to Guilty Gear: learn about the air-dasher’s defense mechanics

At a glance, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- looks like a game that’s hard to read. Complex usage of meters and cancels meets strong pressure and a lot of unique abilities from throughout the cast. It seems like one character can run a train on the other after one knockdown.

TheoryFighter, who is back with their video series on learning Guilty Gear from a Street Fighter perspective, talks about defensive options in the Arc System Works fighter. Contrary to appearances, those who don’t sleep on defense have quite a few options–“it’s filled with conscious choices.”

While Faultless Defense was brought up in the previous episode, this one explores Instant Blocking in detail. By reducing block stun, this opens up a wealth of possibilities to break up pressure either by jumping out or even attacking back. After mentioning throws, the duo brings up option selecting as another defensive technique, which the duo also explains. Backdashing is also a useful option in many situations.

The previous lesson covers universal mechanics in Guilty Gear Xrd.

Miky “Samurai” Chea discusses his training regime, Street Fighter V’s future, and more with BornFree

Ever since since he switched from Ryu to Akuma earlier this year, Winterfox’s Miky “Samurai” Chea has been on a roll in Street Fighter V competition. His high placings at CenCal Standoff 2017(4th), West Coast Warzone 6 (3rd), and NorCal Regionals 2017 (tied for 13th) are nothing to scoff at, and he looks to be continuing that trend by establishing himself as not only one of the best Akuma specialists, but as one of the best Street Fighter V players in the world. Nobody should sleep on him throughout this season, and beyond.

YouTube user and FGC personality BornFree continues his series of NCR 2017 interviews and picks Miky’s brain on a variety of topics, such as his online training, how to make Ryu better in SFV, his thoughts on the upcoming patch, and much more in this video that runs at a little over half an hour long. You can watch it in its entirety, or use the time stamps in the video description to skip to particular questions.

Learn how to defend against M. Bison’s V-Trigger cancel pressure in Street Fighter V

When facing M. Bison in Street Fighter V, one thing players have to pay attention to is his V-gauge; canceling into his V-Trigger allows the dictator to extend his pressure–while allowing for all the shenanigans that Psycho Power entails.

That said, this technique isn’t totally foolproof. For most of M. Bison’s setups with the V-Trigger Cancel, there’s a way–usually an option select–that can get players out, or at least force Bison to back off. It’s these defensive techniques that Ominous_ showcases in this tutorial video below.

Injustice 2 intro roundup gives us our first look at pre-order character Darkseid

As Injustice 2‘s release draws ever nearer, more bits of information continue to trickle out. Yesterday, a video of 68 of the game’s character-specific intros–a feature retained from Mortal Kombat X–was released. In it, we get to see a variety of Gear-equipped alternate costumes, as well as gleaning a few more details about the game’s story and character relationships.

Most importantly though, we get our first in-game look at pre-order bonus fighter Darkseid. Though he was only a stage transition in the original game–and playable only in the mobile version–the ruler of Apokolips brings his Omega Beams full-force into the sequel. In his intro with Harley Quinn, we can see two loyal Parademons (essentially shock troops that aid Darkseid in maintaining order over the planet) accompanying him. Perhaps he will be able to summon them as his Trait, similar to the Minions of Killer Instinct’s Gargos? Harley also notes in the exchange that she “ain’t popped no one’s head off since Lobo,” perhaps referencing the recent demise of the “Main Man” in the Injustice universe?

We also have a clip of the God of Evil’s super, which involves him turning his back to his opponent, blasting them into space with an Omega Beam, before grabbing them through a portal with an enlarged hand to toss them back onto the stage for continued battle. A stylish attack certain befitting the power of the character.

You can see both videos below, with the Darkseid/Harley Quinn intro taking place at 4:43 mark.

The game’s Achievement list was also leaked today, revealing that The Joker will be the final character in the base roster.

Injustice 2 will release on May 16th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Catch the Clown Prince of Crime in action with this Joker gameplay footage for Injustice 2

Recently, we learned that the Joker was making an appearance in Injustice 2, thanks to being listed in one of the game’s achievements. Now, we actually get to see the Clown Prince of Crime himself in action–thanks to some new gameplay footage.

Mulder Mulderville has shared some new gameplay footage from Injustice 2 that features the Joker in a match with the Flash. The footage (supposedly taken from a recent event in Paris) shows Joker’s new look, sporting a trench coat instead of his usual purple suit. We don’t really see much, since most of the footage is the Flash beating on the Joker, but from what we do see, it seems that he still plays like his original, Injustice: Gods Among Us incarnation. Additionally, we see the start up of his super, but not the entire animation itself, since the start up already KOs Flash.

Turn up the heat: Xuses showcases Ken Master’s evolution through various Street Fighter titles

Last fall, XusesGB released a series of videos focusing on the evolution of certain Street Fighter characters throughout various games. Now, he has returned to this series with another evolution video, this time featuring series deuteragonist Ken Masters.

Starting out simply as a palette/head swap of Ryu in the early games, Ken has slowly but surely evolved into his own character. His Street Fighter V incarnation may be his most unique yet, however this only builds on a history of different incarnations of Ken all adding his own fiery spin on the “shoto” moveset.
