Japanese Pokkén Tournament Player GINE Shows Off Pikachu Buffs from Recent Arcade Patch

GINE, a dedicated Pikachu player since the game’s release, has been kind enough to record 30+ minutes of his arcade grinding in the latest patch for Pokkén Tournament. Pikachu, the series’s iconic mascot, received a few new attack cancel options in field phase, allowing him to make it more difficult for his opponents to close in. As evidenced by the video, GINE seems eager to explore these new attack methods, peppering them into his zoning-heavy neutral. Many of his opponents are also sporting recently buffed characters–if you’re looking for lots of footage of Scizor, Gardevoir, Mewtwo and Machamp, this is a great place to look, too!

Learn to Drown Your Competition in This Slick Orcane Rivals of Aether CMV

Rivals of Aether is a very interesting indie fighter. It draws much inspiration from the Super Smash Bros. playbook, but a lot of the characters and play styles function in their own unique fashion. Combined with the entertaining sprite style and animations, RoA is certainly a worthwhile game to watch and play.

Today, YouTuber ThirstyWench, along with Phazed, puts together this collaborative combo music video using Orcane (the water-based whale-puppy thing). This video showcases some crazy neutral into surprising kill confirms, as well as interesting teleport shenanigans. This cheeky play is edited to the beat of the song, too, making it quite the show!

Ignis Lights Everyone Up in Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel

Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel is becoming an increasingly popular game for combo videos. Its double assist mechanics and loose inputs allow for similar combo flexibility to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Skullgirls 2nd Encore; if you add the amount of synergy that each character has with multiple assists, it makes this game magical for combos.

In this video, Ignis from the visual novel game Jingai Makyou steps up to slice and dice through foes. She has some powerful combos, including several super combos and cancels that extend the pain for quite a while.

As the top ranked Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player in the world, TSM|ZeRo’s opinions on the scene, and more relevantly the game, are always a topic of interest. Nuki Shows That Chun-Li is Still Dangerous in This Street Fighter V Compilation Video

There has been a lot of concern about Chun-Li in Street Fighter V Season 2: with a lot of nerfs–including to her air game, with the frame disadvantage of instant air Lightning Legs–she hasn’t seen as much in the way of top 8 play since the update.

There is one person that aims to be the naysayer to her critics, and that is Nuki. He has played Chun-Li in every possible iteration of Street Fighter, and he doesn’t seem concerned at all with her nerfs. In this compilation, he shows that she is still very dangerous. Featuring a lot of comebacks, a double perfect, and a very clutch performance against r/Kappa|John Takeuchi’s Rashid, this video is exemplary of what Chun players need to be doing this season.

Extend Samus’ Grabs in Super Smash Bros. Melee with This Grapple Glitch Tutorial

Samus Aran is a solid middle tier character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. She often sees success in the hands of Duck at the highest levels. However, her grab leaves a lot to be desired. Despite its longer range than most, its recovery if you miss is painfully slow, making it easy to punish.

However, if you were able to extend the range further, it becomes less likely to miss… and that’s exactly what you can do with this glitch. If you push down while hitting Z for the grab, you will extend your throw range slightly with Samus. However, if you lose a stock, the glitch resets and you have to repeat it.

Urien Can Push Airborne Opponents onto Aegis Reflector without Hitting Them in Street Fighter V

Alienware’s Nemo has posted an interesting video on Twitter, showcasing something peculiar with Urien. He shows if you launch your opponent into an Aegis Reflector, you can push them back into it by merely jumping at them. You do not need to push a button, as the momentum from the jump pushes them back into the Aegis. This allows you to extend the combo without actually hitting your opponent.

While this is likely not very viable within competitive play, this is still interesting–and certainly one to chuckle at.

Dive Right In with Mian in This King of Fighters XIV Combo Video

The King of Fighters XIV features a very diverse and interesting cast of charcters, and Chinese Opera singer Mian is one of them. The character was made memorable by AS|Reynald at SoCal Regionals, playing her as battery and putting Xiaohai into losers bracket.

In this combo video, we see this expert-level character do some insanely damaging combos. While it mostly features Mian sticking to the ground, there are some instances of her taking to the sky, showing how her dive kicks can combo into each other in Max mode.

Smash.gg Interviews Alex Jebailey about Community Organization

Alex Jebailey certainly has been a force in the fighting game community, organizing two events a year, CEOgaming and CEOtaku, as well as being the FGC consultant for DreamHack. His busy schedule is filled by working with many major game companies, but he still finds the time to do the very job he started with: organizing tournaments.

Smash.gg, the site that runs registration for the probable majority of big tournaments today, interviewed Jebailey on video. The interview takes a background approach to tournament organization, which Jebailey prefers to call “event experiences.” He goes through some advice on how to promote said events, how Smash.gg impacted the nitty-gritty of tournament organization, and how to work out the logistics of running multiple major events.

It’s a great watch not just for a behind-the-scenes look, but also for those who are considering getting into organizing even small-scale events to support the fighting game community.

Smash.gg is starting up their own YouTube channel, so go ahead and give it a subscribe to see more videos in the future and support their content. Shoryuken has also interviewed Jebailey about recent events.
