Angel Has an Amazing Guard Crush Reset in King of Fighters XIV

The King of Fighters has been known to have absolutely nasty combos in the most recent iterations, off of very simple hit confirms. The biggest and most brutal combos usually come from your later characters, as often the opening characters tend to act as batteries for the rest of your team, to charge up meter to work with in later rounds.

But it looks like there’s a case to be made for Angel to not be a “battery character” in this game. She has a strong setup off of a hit confirm into Max Mode. With the first part dealing 288 damage midscreen, a reset out of max mode and into guard crush can do an addition 382 damage into the corner for a grand total of 670 damage with the reset.

Xiaohai and Mago Battle in the Middle Kingdom in this Hype China vs. Japan Street Fighter V Tournament Match

Over the weekend, China played host to some of Japan’s best Street Fighter V players, for a special China vs. Japan tournament. With streaming only happening on Douyu.tv, as well as the odd time at which it happened, it made it tough for people in the West to tune in.

Those who did tune in caught an amazing set between Qanba’s Xiaohai and star Karin player Mago. The unique format allowed them to play a first-to-seven set, which allows spectators to see severely high-level play between the two pros–one that XusesGB managed to capture for the rest of us to see.

Master the “Cross-Cut Uppercut” in Street Fighter V with VesperArcade’s Tutorial

Learn to apply one of your best tools to shut down cross-up jump-ins.

If you’re struggling to deal with opponents that love to jump in for those cross-ups, VesperArcade has got you covered–provided your SFV main sports a Shoryuken-style uppercut (forward, down, down-forward+attack) special move. This means Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Cammy, Necalli, and even Juri and Ibuki.

In the video below, he breaks down the multiple input variations that the SFV engine will process as the reversing “cross-cut uppercut”: a dragon punch move that will come out and hit the opponent just as they pass over you on the other side. You can apply this technique by starting the DP input towards the opponent while they still are in front of you, but completing the move as down, down-back just as they’ve passed over; there’s also a variation in which you can roll the stick through a half-circle for the same result. If crouching, SFV’s input shortcuts are even more forgiving. The video breaks each variation down in detail, so you can practice up and strike some fear in those jumpy opponents–as a successful reversed DP, even if it trades, will open up additional combo/punish opportunities.

5 Minute Fundamentals Breaks Down the Basics of Hit Boxes

Hit boxes are some of the most basic components of any 2D fighting game. That said, not everyone is able to truly grasp how they work.

To help newer players wrap their heads around them, lordofultima focuses on hit boxes in the latest installment of their “5 Minute Fundamentals” series. The video below goes over normal hit boxes, push boxes, vulnerable hit boxes (also known as hurt boxes), and the like, and also goes over the various properties that can be assigned to them. While the game explains them in the context of Street Fighter V, the concepts here can be applied to most other 2D fighters as well.

Unsolved Mysteries: Akuma Disappears from Final Boss Battle in This Super Street Fighter II Turbo Glitch

This is Missing Person with a most ironic missing person report: while we know most everything there is to be known about Super Street Fighter II Turbo, there are still a few things that we don’t always see or understand.

Take this for instance. Silentscope was recently playing through the single-player mode on the Japanese version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Having triggered the right conditions, he fought Gouki (Akuma) instead of Dictator (M. Bison) for the final boss. However, he said that at around the 10 second mark, Akuma disappeared from the screen. Having lost the round by health deficit when the timer ran out, the game froze. Trying to award the round to Akuma, the game couldn’t–because the character asset was no longer available.

While he admits to playing this via emulator, the fact is that this is a strange glitch, and people within the ST community have yet to conjure up an explanation for Akuma’s untimely disappearance.

So where did Akuma go? That’s a question we hope to answer in the near future.
