1-Minute Tech series shows off important high level tech for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Robin

Fire Emblem Tactician Robin comes with one of the widest toolkits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This is primarily thanks to his multiple magic-spitting tomes — and with such a wide arsenal, comes an even wider array of ways to use these spells on the battlefield.

In the playlist above, you’ll find the “1-Minute Tech” series produced by Mad Ice King. These videos quickly condense complicated topics — such as Robin’s Elwind Cancels and Instant Tome Pickups — so that you can become a fearsome Grandmaster with one of Smash’s most unique characters.

Rising Up: Season 4 — Important changes for Zangief, Dhalsim, Rashid, Laura, and Necalli

Following the conclusion of this year’s Capcom Pro Tour, Capcom has released Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s newest character, “Kage,” along with a balance patch to give each character some new bells and whistles. This patch changes every character and addresses some of the most common complaints about Season 3 and 3.5. By popular demand, I’m continuing my series on ShoryukenTube where I analyze the Season 4 patch notes and describe how the changes will affect each character’s combos and playstyle going forward. While it’s critical to know your own character’s balance adjustments, you also benefit from knowing your opponent’s options against you.

This time, I’ve made videos describing the most important changes for Zangief, Dhalsim, Rashid, Laura, and Necalli:

If you missed my previous videos, check them out here:

And here’s the YouTube playlist for all characters so far, which I’ll update as I go.

I’ll be working my way through the roster in the same order as the in-game character list, so next time I hope to cover Necalli, Alex, Guile, Ibuki, and Balrog. Remember to subscribe to the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel so you don’t miss out!

Project BBQ is Nexon’s Next Online ARPG Built by Neople

Nexon has sent out a 3 minute teaser trailer for an upcoming “online 3D action RPG” called “Project BBQ”. The game is being built by Neople using the Unreal Engine 4. The developers should sound familiar as Neople is the same studio behind the wildly popular Dungeon Fighter Online. The video shows off a number of environments, “character’s skills and battle sequences”. You can’t miss the DFO feel coming from what is shown.

Set up your opponents with these Ivy grab mixups in SoulCalibur VI

Ivy has always been difficult to deal with in SoulCalibur. Her ranged game coupled with her grabs make her even more dangerous in SoulCalibur VI, and this video makes it look even crazier.

Not only does Telethon show grab setups off of hits with some of her best buttons, but he also discusses how to mix up your grabs with other follow-up buttons to keep your opponents guessing on whether to tech the throw or not. It becomes a difficult situation given either way you go, you are going to get a large amount of damage if they guess wrong.

New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate “Attack Cancel” tech allows new dashing approaches, Rosalina death combo

Some of the most wild tech from the Smash community in the past came from My Smash Corner, who has, up until now, been largely silent on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As it turns out, they were just preparing a video on a game-changing mechanic: Attack Canceling.

Smash Ultimate allows you to cancel the startup of dash attacks, jabs, and other moves with a jump during their startup. This quirk allows players to get access to safer types of aerial attacks, instant b-airs, and for Rosalina players, a brand new combo tool. Check out the video above and get into training mode: If you play Ultimate, you’ll want to know how to do this.

Maximilian speaks out on Dragon Ball FighterZ’s alleged copyright issues and tournament woes

Popular fighting game streamer and content creator Maximilian has addressed the issues surrounding Dragon Ball FighterZ’s current licensing debacle, hoping for a brighter future in light of Toei’s probable restrictions.

Max uploaded a video to YouTube on December 22 speaking out on the matter, noting that the game has been pulled from major tournaments such as DreamHack Atlanta and Anime Ascension, and is not making an appearance at the next Evo Japan. Max went on to speculate that developers ArcSys and publishers Bandai Namco were unlikely to have anything to do with the restrictions, citing Toei’s noted history of being “difficult to work with” as a likely culprit.

Despite the community’s concern during what Max called the “worst case scenario” for competitive players, he hopes for an eventual change of pace, calling back to Nintendo’s cease and desist order toward the Evolution Championship Series in 2013 in regards to Melee.

“It worked itself out, and I can only hope that’s what happens now because I feel bad for Bandai Namco,” Max said of the matter. “They’ve put a lot of time into making Dragon Ball a big, competitive thing.”

Max likewise hopes for a change to the game’s overall composition for the upcoming announcement at Jump Festa 2019, calling for a big tweak to its superdash mechanic among predictions for new characters.

Dragon Ball FighterZ has been at the center of controversy since its cancellation from DreamHack Atlanta in November of 2018. Since then, the game has been pulled from SoCal’s Anime Ascension tournament due to what organizers referred to as “unforeseen circumstances,” leaving players to cancel their flights and refund their registration fees.

With the game not making an appearance at the upcoming Evo Japan despite being a massively popular fighting game title, the FGC is at odds with Toei’s alleged licensing restrictions, calling for big changes to the company’s current agenda; although the reasons for why the game is being pulled from these esports events — and if it is indeed Toei responsible — are still unconfirmed.
