Everyone has a fighting chance
One of the new features in World of Warcraft: Legion is the addition of “micro-holidays”, events that offer a fun new event for players to participate in. The Hatching of the Hippogryphs event is taking flight on February 23rd and will take place in Feralas. Participants lucky enough to view the “yearly hatching of the hippogryphs” might even get a “little friend for the day”.
When the 7.3.5 update went live, a World of Warcraft player promised he would imitate a well-known South Park episode (Make Love, Not Warcraft) by leveling to 60 only killing boars in Elwynn Forest outside of Stormwind. As of this weekend, “Ianxplosion” killed 19,801 boars to achieve his goal.
Blizzards’ Ornyx has posted a lengthy article on the World of Warcraft forum to inform the community that the “MVP” program is going to be overhauled. Currently, MVPs have a green label and have been identified by Blizzard as posters who have been helpful to others and who have consistently been present to assist the community. Now, however, Blizzard will be accepting applications from those who want to join the program with an entirely new focus on working with WoW representatives.
The World of Warcraft community site has just posted notification that a brand new book for kids authored by Chris Metzen, one of the most well-known (now former) Blizzard developers. Called “Snow Fight: A Warcraft Tale”, the book shows iconic WoW characters including Varian Wrynn, Thrall and Arthas as they play in the snow. The book’s lesson is one that takes on the negative impact of bullying.
Blizzard is ready to kick off Season 2 of the Mythic Plus Invitational in World of Warcraft. The first phase will be divided into two sections, the first of which begins on February 27th, the second on March 6th. During these two weeks, teams of five players will try to complete a total of five level 23 Mythic Keystone runs that will be submitted to Blizzard at the Proving Grounds’ conclusion. The top teams will offered a slot in the Mythic Plus Invitational.
Thanks to eagle-eyed Coolit, we may be getting our first glimpse of the “new” Vanilla World of Warcraft in a brief video sent out by Blizzard to celebrate the game’s 13th anniversary. In it, Reddit user “jpedrote52” points out two unusual details: 1) there are high-definition shadows visible (these were not brought into game until Wrath of the Lich King); 2) the spot where Forsaken begin their journey in the same spot as shown in the video, unlike private servers where they are in front of it.
Both WoWHead and MMO-Champion are busy streaming away now that they have gained access to the invitation-only alpha for World of Warcraft’s Battle for Azeroth. Several streamers have taken to Twitch to show off live action from the alpha version, among them Twitch’s Towellie, a Paladin tank.
Not much has been said about the World of Warcraft “classic server” project since its announcement at last year’s Blizzcon. However, Forbes has an enlightening interview with J. Allen Brack about the project and some of the vision that developers have. The clear message from Blizzard through this interview is that feedback and input from the classic community is integral to the project.
