If you haven’t tooled around Wayback Machine, you’re missing something fun and interesting. As they say, nothing posted on the web ever dies. As we surfed around earlier, we slapped WorldofWarcraft.com into the machine and looked up the very first time anything about WoW was posted to the world, this time on October 13, 2001.

While being able to send gifts to friends via Blizzard’s online store has always been a thing, it’s been impossible via the Battle.Net desktop app. That’s all changed now with today’s update. Not only is Offline Mode FINALLY available after over a decade, but so is the ability to gift friends all sorts of things right from within the app. This includes World of Warcraft game time, Diablo 3’s Rise of the Necromancer DLC, Hearthstone card packs and more.

Amazon.com has leaked a new World of Warcraft tie-in novel called “Shadows of Argus: Before the Storm”. According to the brief description, the book…tells the story of what awaits the heroes of the Horde and the Alliance in the wake of their struggle against the demonic Burning Legion”. Christie Golden, author of the book, has confirmed that this is indeed legit and that the book will be coming out on May 15, 2018 and is currently available for preorder.

An eagle-eyed Reddit user named “Tiwuno” caught a momentary slip up on World of Warcraft version tracker site BlizzTrack. For the briefest of moments, the most current beta version listed across all regions was 8.0. Blizzard traditionally releases expansions on even numbers. For instance, Warlords of Draenor was 6.0, Legion 7.0 and so on. The 8.0.0.25338 (to be precise) version was only live for a few minutes before being rolled back. However, it indicates that the expansion is well underway.

Azeroth is once again awash with Halloween goodies and fun with the return of the World of Warcraft event, Hallow’s End. From today through November 1st, players can take on the Headless Horseman himself to try to take home his mount for themselves. In addition, trick-or-treating opportunities abound throughout the game world where players can collect currency to exchange for costumes and pets and even a new quest called Crooked Tree in Bradensbrook.

In World of Warcraft news that’s always good for a few hundred comments, it’s been revealed that the so-called “legacy” WoW server, Elysium, is shutting down due to “failures to uphold the project’s ideas and integrity” with one “staff member” taking home about 2,000 Euros per month via PayPal donations. According to a new post on a site called “LightsHope.org”, the project’s servers are currently down in the hopes that they will relaunch again under new management.

The World of Warcraft Running of the Gnomes event is now complete for 2017 and it absolutely has blown away its original goal of raising $4,000 for the Cleveland Clinic and breast cancer research. In addition, the team behind the annual event was hoping to beat the 2900 Gnomes taking part. Well, they beat it indeed. As of today, the event has raised $16,000 with over 7,000 players taking part.

Blizzard has rolled out another wave of 6-month bans in World of Warcraft that specifically targets players using third party programs to “enhance” game play. Players were banned that used bots to automate game play, teleport hacks and combat rotation scripts. Notifications were sent to affected players via email, a copy of which was posted to /r/WoW.

In a “blue post” on the World of Warcraft EU forum, Community Manager “Aerythlea” has reminded players that artifact appearances in Legion will still be available for transmog purposes and collection in subsequent expansions. However, the appearances earned through the Mage Tower Challenge and those found in Mythic +15 Keystone Dungeons will be available for transmog but must be collected prior to Legion’s end. They will not be available in once the next expansion launches.

Get a tissue. Don’t say you weren’t warned. The World of Warcraft US forum has a new post called “I may be done”. Of course, most reading the title would assume it’s another QQ post about someone rage-quitting WoW. However, it only takes reading the first paragraph to realize that this is something utterly different, heartbreakingly sad and that there are real human stories behind the avatars we run into every day in the MMOs we play. Perhaps it’s the latter that’s most important of all.
