Koefficient analyzes the assists of all 20 base characters in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

The news just keeps coming in for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Today’s breakdown from Koefficient covers nearly all of the assists for the 20 base roster characters. Similar to a project done for Dragon Ball FighterZ, a Google document has been created with GIFs and descriptions of all three assists each character possesses, with the exceptions of BlazBlue’s Iron Tager and Persona 4 Arena‘s Yukiko Amagi — of whom we’ve only seen two assists from so far — with their third attacks still remaining a mystery, for now.

To accompany this, BlazBlue content creator Koefficient has released a video where he runs down the document, providing a bit of analysis of each individual assist one by one. He also speculates how powerful or weak these moves could make each character in the long run. You can see the full video below, and get a link to the full Google document here.

What do you think about the assists in the game so far? Do you like the ones that have been chosen for your favorite characters, or would you have preferred something else? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below. You can also find new information about the title’s “Episode Mode” here, as well as checking out some new gameplay footage from GameSpot Gameplay.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on Thursday, May 31st in Japan, with a North American release for the same platforms following on Tuesday, June 5th.

Check out over six minutes of new BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle footage from GameSpot

It’s been quite the newsworthy week for the upcoming BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. We’ve recently learned the game’s pricing for both Japan and America, we saw our first gameplay demonstration of Team RWBY’s Blake Belladonna and BlazBlue’s Platinum The Trinity, Under Night In-Birth’s Orie Bellardiae and Persona 4 Arena’s Kanji Tatsumi were revealed as the first three paid DLC characters in Cross Character Pack 1. Now we have a newly-released six minutes and 20 seconds of gameplay, courtesy of GameSpot gameplay.

In the first match, we see the fates of a pair of physically-transformed grapplers and scythe-wielders intersect, as Iron Tager and Waldstein battle Gordeau and Ruby Rose. We also get to see Weiss Schnee and Nu-13 unite to take on Ragna The Bloodedge and Linne, and finally Yukiko Amagi and Jin Kisaragi go to war with Hyde Kido and Chie Satonaka.

Two important takeaways from this footage concerning the Persona 4 Arena characters are that hitting a Persona now inflicts damage to the owner, in addition to clearing them from the screen — an interesting way to balance these attacks considering the Persona Card and Break systems form their original games have been removed in BBTAG. Lastly, Yukiko fans will be happy to know that she has now regained heir signature Fire Counter, which improves the potency of all her fire-based skills as it’s increased from Levels 0 to 8 through the usage of her Fire Boost special, and its EX variant, Fire Amp. Given that Yu, Yosuke and Chie also posses some of their new attacks from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Yukiko will likely still unlock her Phoenix Flame Swirl Skill once she hits Level 6 or higher.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be released for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC in Japan and Asia on Thursday, May 31st, with a North American release for the same platforms following on Tuesday, June 5th. BBTAG will also be one of the eight main stage games at Evo 2018 this August.

For the past two years, viennality has been a highlight for the NRS community in Vienna, Austria — with last year’s tournament serving as a Premier event in the Injustice 2 Pro Series, and the initial outing a year prior serving as the largest European Mortal Kombat XL tournament to date. Recently the game lineup for this year’s third iteration has been announced, expanding from a mere four previous titles to a whopping eight for 2018.

This year, the event will be taking place on the weekend of July 7th and 8th, with the following eight games featured:

  • Injustice 2
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • Tekken 7
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Side games:

  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
  • Skullgirls: 2nd Encore

Registration will be open on Valentine’s Day, February 14th — which might make a trip to Austria the perfect gift for any fighting game-loving couples out there. Sign-ups can be found that day at viennality.com. If you missed out on the hype for last year’s event, you can check out this great documentary from the tournament organizers themselves to see what viennality is like.

Raptor and HoneyBee look at the most significant changes in Injustice 2’s patch 1.16

With the final characters of Fighter Pack 3 — the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — set to raise some shell in Injustice 2 starting tomorrow, the game was recently updated to patch 1.16. This brought forth a host of balance changes for the likes of Catwoman, Supergirl, Hellboy, Black Adam, Enchantress, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Poison Ivy, Starfire, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Gorilla Grodd, and several others.

BeastCoast|HoneyBee starts off by providing us with two separate videos looking at some of the more significant buffs and nerfs this patch provided, with timestamps included so you can cut right to the chase with your character of choice.

Lastly, Noble|Raptor provides us with another great “before and after” comparison of each individual change applied to every character, no matter how small, so we can see the full effective impact of the specific alterations to each fighter.

What do you think of these patch changes? Is their anyone you feel may have been overbuffed or overnerfed, or perhaps even left out? Or do you feel this latest update puts the game in a perfect state as we head into the release of the Turtles? Give us your thoughts on things in the Comments section below!

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle DLC characters to be revealed this Thursday on the February Arc Nama stream

With less than four months to go before release, the news just keeps coming for fans of BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. Following its official confirmation into the Evo 2018 main lineup, as well as the announcement that Team RWBY’s Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long will be permanently free DLC characters, the recently-opened Japanese website for BBTAG revealed the next monthly Arc Nama stream will take place this Thursday, February 15th.

As to why this date is significant, ever since the reveals of Jin Kisaragi, Yosuke Hanamura and Linne back in September, Arc System Works has continuously revealed members of the base roster on these streams, with the most recent one unveiling the BlazBlue quartet of Iron Tager, Makoto Nanaya, Nu-13 and Es back in December. With 18 unknown DLC characters remaining, which will be distributed in six three-character Volumes, it’s safe to assume that the other warriors will come from BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena and Under Night In-Birth. While the upcoming challengers could be anyone’s guess, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Investigation Team’s Kanji Tatsumi finally join the fray to complete the grappler trio with Tager and Waldstein, as well as maintaining the tradition of revealing members of the Persona 4 cast in the order they joined the in-game party.

The broadcast will take place at 8 PM JST, (3 AM PST, 6 AM EST, 5 AM CST) at twitch.tv/arcsystemworks, so tune in if you’re up and stay right here at Shoryuken for full coverage of the reveal.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will release for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on May 31st in Japan and Asia. A North American release will follow on Tuesday, June 5th. A European release date has not been announced as of writing.

Check out a ton of new BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle footage from the 2018 Taipei Game Show

With the recent reveal of a release date, as well as the announcement that Team RWBY’s Blake Belladonna and 19 other characters would be joining the roster of the upcoming BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, many fans have been looking to see and hear more about the four-way crossover title.

Last weekend, BBTAG made appearances at both Evo Japan and the 2018 Taipei Game Show in Taiwan, with the full 20-character base roster available for players, giving us a healthy amount of new footage of the entire cast to share with you.

In our first video, we see our four main protagonists do battle, as Under Night In-Birth’s Hyde Kido and RWBY’s Ruby Rose unite to battle BlazBlue’s Ragna The Bloodedge and Persona 4 Arena’s Yu Narukami on one of the new original stages revealed in the most recent trailer. Initially, we can hear that Ruby has a new (or perhaps additional?) character theme. In previous builds she used Red Like Roses Part 2, whereas this new theme sounds like a mix of Red Like Roses Part 1 and the Volume 1 Opening Theme, This Will Be The Day. Resonance Blaze now has an on-screen timer of 15 seconds when all four blocks of the Cross Gauge are filled, and will now turn the screen blue when activated, similar to Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite’s Infinity Storms, though it remains to be seen if only one team can have the mechanic active at a time.

Our second match sees Weiss Schnee and Linne face Noel Vermillion and Yukiko Amagi on the newly-revealed Altar stage from BlazBlue. We can also see that Distortion Finishes now change the background into the diamond motif, featuring the signature colors of all four franchises.

We’ve also got two more videos, showing off a bit of play with all 20 cast members, with a variety of teams and stages, though the uploader mainly stuck to the duo of Weiss and Hazama for the majority of matches. We can also see that the Under Night quartet now each possess a second Distortion Skill like the rest of the cast, and are no longer solely limited to their Infinite Worths. The attacks appear to be Hyde’s Pale Bringer, which now lacks the usual kick ender, Linne’s Force Function, Waldstein’s C version of Sturmangriff and Gordeau’s EX Mortal Slide.

Lastly, movelists for 16 characters were spotted at Evo Japan, though they’re currently lacking translations. You can see everything below, including a write-up of one player’s thoughts on the TGS build, below.

Evo Japan 2018 side tournament results

While Evo Japan featured seven main games, there were a myriad of other titles being played as side tournaments for Evo’s freshman foray into the East, and we’ve got the standings for most of them here for you. With so many players from all of the world descending upon Japan, there was sure to be top competition in every game — even if they weren’t under the bright lights of the main stage, especially with the added pressure of the common Japanese single-elimination formats!
