More Dragon Ball FighterZ datamining reveals details on additional modes and DLC characters

Earlier this week, we reported on a set of additional (datamined) Lobby Avatars for Dragon Ball FighterZ that strongly implicate the potential identities of the eight upcoming DLC characters that will be included in the FighterZ Pass, as well as some evidence of new game modes: Z-Union, Z-League and Raid Battle. SergioM3 has since released a series of additional videos, revealing some more details on these upcoming modes — that will likely inhabit the currently-empty areas of the Kame House and West City in the game’s lobby menu.

Having recently come across the explanation text that will appear when entering these modes, we can see that there will be individual Z-Unions for every single character in the game, which we can join in order to gain special character-related items which will increase in rarity and value over time. Joining a Union will also allow players to battle in the Z-League, a monthly competition between the various character Unions, which seems similar to Mortal Kombat XL’s Faction Battles, with the Z-League standings being viewable on the normal Ranking board currently in the game. However: you will be removed from your Z-Union if you don’t compete in at least one Ranked Match per month.

In regards to Raid Battles, the text found reads, “Enemy incoming! A Raid Battle will be kicking off soon. Expect to cross paths with only the fiercest of foes. Train up and prepare, you’re going to need it. Fierce foe spotted at the southeast lobby island! Get in on this Raid Battle, active now! Join forces with other players and take this titan down!” (This leads me to believe it could be similar to the Raid Battles against powerful CPU opponents found in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.)

Fellow dataminer Mizumi appears to have found character models for the heavily-rumored “base” Goku and Vegeta, both based on their Saiyan Saga appearances, as well as an announcer callout for the selection of Cooler, another name speculated to be in the FighterZ Pass.

Finally, DasVergeben — who has leaked details on several different fighting games in the past — recently chimed in about this on reddit, saying, “I heard back from my main 2 sources and wanted to know if this is legit and some just aren’t avatars only, and they back up that the season 1 characters are obviously the 4 characters they leaked to be previously that I shared with you (Broly, Bardock, Base form Goku, and Base form Vegeta) and that Vegito, Fused Zamasu, Cooler, and 17 are the others. Zamasu is a bonus avatar that comes along with Merged Zamasu. Super Saiyan Broly comes as a lobby avatar with Broly, same with Bardock and Vegito with their two different forms. So there you have it.

The outlier source I mentioned before who knew about Raditz and Zarbon (that I was openly shaky on) said that “Raditz and Zarbon are season 2 characters. So you can take that with a grain of salt. Though I guess it would make sense why the other 2 didn’t know or hear about them if so. But whatever.”

You can see all of the videos below, but be sure to keep a little skepticism in mind until we get some kind of official confirmation!

What do you think of all of this information? Are you looking forward to these modes, and possible DLC characters, or do you wish it was a completely different set entirely? Let us know in the comments.

Open your Third Eye with Maximilian’s Tien breakdown for Dragon Ball FighterZ

With the days continuing to tick away until the launch of Dragon Ball FighterZ, Maximilian continues his series of character breakdowns for the entire base roster, this time choosing to focus on the former top pupil of the Crane School, Tien Shinhan.

Tien’s Volleyball Fist is a multi-hitting attack that can be controlled with multiple button presses, similar to a Rekka chain, beginning with an armored state that can transition into a forward lunge before hitting foes low, and then launching them with the final hit for continued aerial combos. The heavy/EX version of the first hit serves as a command grab that goes into the full Volleyball Fist attack, but is difficult to combo after without using Vanish or Assists. EXing the second or third hits of the move will cause Tien to go into the air faster and stop quickly, providing him with some unique air combo opportunities. The Aerial Volleyball Fist is simply the final hit of the chain, but will always be a soft knockdown unless EXed to become hard.

The Crane Strike is a grounded overhead attack that can also be used in the air, but is difficult to combo into due to its massive startup. Tien’s Ki attacks appear pretty slow, though the Dodon Ray does serve as his assist, giving him some unique utility. His final special, Telekinesis, involves summoning Chiaotzu — in a manner similar to Android 17, Zamasu, and the Ginyu Force — to paralyze Tien’s opposition from full-screen if they’re grounded.

Perhaps the most unique aspect to Tien are his super special moves. The signature Tri-Beam is a level 1 that covers the ground area upwards, but the level 3 Neo Tri-Beam is where Tien really shines, as it can be enhanced with up to four more Ki Gauges to deal massive damage to a character, at the cost of doing non-recoverable damage to himself.

Finally, his second level 3, Farewell Mr. Tien, recreates the iconic scene from the Saiyan Saga that sees Chiaotzu attempt to self-detonate himself while on Nappa’s back. It’s a fast attack that hits from behind for good damage, but will also cause you to lose access to Chiaotzu’s abilities for the remainder of the match.

You can see the full video below, along with links to his previous coverage of the remaining cast.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam this Friday, January 26th in the West, while a Japanese release will follow on the same platforms Thursday, February 1st.

X-Kira’s datamining reveals new Extra Battles & potential upcoming costumes for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Since the release of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition last week, dataminer X-Kira has continued to scour the game’s files and code to find more tidbits about potential upcoming content. His most recent videos have shown him facing off against upcoming opponents for Extra Battle — a new mode added to Arcade Edition that allows players to challenge CPU enemies in timed events that provide special rewards upon their defeat, for the price of a little Fight Money for each and every attempt.

While Shin Akuma literally struck fear into the hearts (and virtual wallets) of many players, it seems some of the upcoming adversaries will be just as treacherous. First off, X-Kira uses Juri to battle a giant-sized Peter Zonta in a scene reminiscent of battles against Tatsunoko vs. Capcom’s pair of giants, or your favorite Kaiju movie; as well as Shadow, the alternate form of Charlie Nash seen in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter after capture and experimentation by M. Bison. We also see a powered-up version of Phantom Bison (from the Cinematic Story Mode) an Alpha 2 version of Shin Akuma (sporting differently-colored attire), as well as the trio of Golden Shadaloo Soldiers who were recently delayed until this weekend by Capcom, giving us a good idea of their possible attack patterns. Kira also tweets briefly about “Shadow Lady” Chun-Li being able to passively regain health as the match goes on, and that Evil Ryu will have an exclusive V-Trigger when we face him.

He also shows off a match against a fourth, “Low-Rank Shadaloo Soldier C,” in addition to a series of potentially upcoming Premium costume sets. A “Set_0074” features outfits for Sakura and Akuma, “Set_0078” for Ibuki, “Set_0077” for Rainbow Mika, “Set_0057” for Nash, “Set_0076” contains attire for Ken, and finally a full set of Default, Story, Battle and Nostalgic outfits for a “Z27,” likely a placeholder for the second (upcoming) Season 3 character, Brazilian beast-man Blanka. [The Ibuki, Ken, and R. Mika sets are probably these upcoming Crossover Costumes for Extra Battle. – Editor]

Lastly, X-Kira provides us with a look at all of the weekly Missions for 2018, which include the usual fare of cryptic stage-specific tasks and playing various game modes, but now come with added quests involving playing the new Arcade and Extra Battle modes, obtaining specific high scores in Arcade, utilizing a specific number of Critical Arts and special moves (such as Ryu’s Hadoken, Ken’s Shoryuken, and Necalli’s The Disc’s Guidance) with each world warrior, as well as clearing the various Survival Mode courses (which recently lost their exhaustible Fight Money bonuses). He also confirms we’ll be seeing additional monthly CPT Missions, likely tied to a 2018 Capcom Pro Tour pass just as we got last year. You can see all the videos, including a look at the long-missing EX01 colors for M. Bison and Necalli, below.

What are your thoughts on these upcoming Extra Battles? Are there any more special opponents that you’d like to see? Sound off in the comments below.

Jack confirmed for ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer

With Fighting EX Layer nearly about to make another playable appearance at this weekend’s Evo Japan, with Doctrine Dark available, ARIKA has decided to reveal yet another new challenger to the roster: Jack.

Making his debut in 1996’s Street Fighter EX, the former Las Vegas bouncer and top man in the “Crackers” bodyguard organization, the man known for his unstoppable fists attempted to elude the pursuits of a criminal organization by becoming the bodyguard of the also recently-revealed Blair Dame when she began traveling the world. It was also noted on ARIKA’s Facebook page that the character’s official name is simply “Jack” from now on, seemingly due to copyright issues with a certain caramel-coated sweet popcorn treat commonly sold at baseball games.

While we only get to see him facing off with Blair as they look to begin a match, we can see that he has now been dubbed, “A Guy of Loyalty,” and is sporting a new outfit that greatly resembles a sheriff’s uniform, as they look to battle in a new stage resembling a rocky dessert full of tumbleweeds. We also get a peek at D. Dark and Allen Snider about to go to war in a new construction area arena. You can see the full 31-second trailer and Facebook post below.

Fighting EX Layer will be released for PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.

OminousGames demystifies Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s patch notes with unlisted notable changes for the entire cast

When Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s patch notes leaked earlier this month, before subsequently being released in their final form one week before launch, Capcom was, to be blunt, less than clear on many of the upcoming character alterations. With extremely vague wording on various subjects, particularly when it came to many characters seeing adjustments to the hitboxes and hurtboxes on their normals, it was extremely difficult for players to determine how their favorite warriors would be turning out in Season 3. Thankfully, with the release of the new online tool sfvdiff, it’s recently become much easier to look directly in the game’s code to decipher the exact nature of some of these seemingly-minute changes, and Ominous Games has been doing just that on Twitter.

After looking through the scripts for each of the game’s 28 rebalanced world warriors, Ominous has posted lists of all of the most significant changes for each character not covered in the patch notes, noting whether each individual change was a buff or a nerf. These range from specifically listing out altered numerical values, such as how Ken’s walkspeed increase now provides him with the same forward movement speed as Cammy, to exactly how much less V-Gauge certain characters’ V-Skills build following their nerfs. With the entire cass accounted for, Ominous has collected all of the Tweets, as well as relevant comments explaining the ramifications of certain changes further into a single Moment on Twitter, for the world’s viewing pleasure.

These are undeniably a fantastic companion to the official patch notes, and may teach you a few new things about your characters that you haven’t discovered yet, so be sure to take a look and give him some love for his hard work.

Rhymestyle, Maximilian, Xavier Woods and Demetrious Johnson to face off during Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Dragon Ball FighterZ launch stream

The time to step into the World Tournament Arena is drawing near, as the release of Dragon Ball FighterZ is less than a week away. To celebrate, Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced via Twitter that they will be holding a special launch stream on Thursday, January 25th, the day before DBFZ releases outside of Japan. They’ll also be hosting a quartet of special guests: Dragon Ball YouTuber Rhymestyle, FGC YouTuber Maximilian, WWE Smackdown Live Superstar and New Day member Xavier Woods and UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

They will battle it out in a four-man tournament for DBFZ supremacy and there’s bound to be even more surprises in store, so be sure to tune in to all the action at 2 PM PT (4 PM CT, 5 PM ET) at twitch.tv/bandainamcous.

Don’t forget about the “Super Saiyan Showdown” between Sean Schemmel and Christopher Sabat, the English voice actors of Goku, Goku Black, King Kai, Vegeta, Piccolo and Yamcha, taking place on the same day.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC in North America and Europe this Friday, January 26th, while a Japanese release for the same platforms will follow on Thursday, February 1st.

Enjoy these special pre-battle intros from the Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta

Throughout the course of its development, we’ve seen several instances where Arc System Works has gone out of their way to provide extremely copious amounts of fanservice in the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ. From recreating attacks and poses from the original source material to the breathtaking Dramatic Productions, which see some of the most iconic scenes in the history of the franchise recreated within the engine, ASW and Bandai Namco have crafted a love letter to this iconic franchise that fans and newcomers alike can enjoy.

With the open beta recently wrapping up, Dragon Ball YouTuber Janemba8000 has captured a myriad of character-specific pre-battle intros featuring the 11 cast members that were available in this test. Given that Android 21’s machinations have revived several classic enemies, it’s extremely satisfying to see the dialogue between the likes of Cell and the now-Adult Gohan, Nappa swearing revenge against Goku for his previous defeat, Beerus declaring the superiority of Gods of Destruction over the Majin race, and other various quips between related characters.

While we previously covered several of the currently-revealed Dramatic Finishes from IGN, we now have another that was released after that article was written.  This new clip features Trunks slicing up Frieza, in a recreation of his first death, on the Rocky Field stage.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC next Friday, January 26th, with a Japanese release for the same platforms following on Thursday, February 1st.

Check out new gameplay of Goku Black, Hit, Gotenks, and SSGSS Goku & Vegeta in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Recently, Bandai Namco Entertainment held a stream in Japan for the fast-approaching Dragon Ball FighterZ. Specifically showcasing many of the newer characters who didn’t make the cut for the open beta, as well as the seldom-seen Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan versions of Goku and Vegeta.

These matches feature Gotenks, Goku Black, and Hit facing Captain Ginyu, Yamcha, and SSGSS Goku, as well as the trio of SGSS Vegeta, Tien, and Trunks battling against Gotenks, Hit, and Yamcha. We also get a glimpse of the updated character select screen, revealing the Super Saiyan Blues will be taking their place on opposite ends of the second row of characters, next to Trunks and Android 16, respectively, with the slot underneath Beerus reserved for the recently announced Android 21. The stage select screen is also briefly displayed, revealing 13 historic Dragon Ball battlegrounds to choose from, as well as extra room for perhaps some DLC arenas or hidden surprises?

We’ve also gotten some more information on the upcoming Announcer Voice DLC that was delayed for Ultimate Edition owners, as replays during the open beta have revealed that the World Tournament Announcer, who makes several appearances throughout Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and GT, will be available to provide commentary on matches, bringing his characteristic hype and eccentricities to matches in a similar to Persona 4 Arena‘s various Navigators. He will be made available for download by Sunday, April 15th.

You can see both videos below.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in North America and Europe on Friday, January 26, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam. A Japanese release will follow on Thursday, February 1st for the same platforms. The open beta will has reopened for a 24-hour extension, ending tomorrow, January 18th, at 9:00 PM PT.
