Goku and Vegeta display the true power of Super Saiyan Blue in the latest Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay trailer

Gamescom 2017 has been an extremely newsworthy event for fans of the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ. We received a new gameplay trailer showing off new challengers Krillin, Piccolo, Android 16, and Android 18; we also got our first glimpse at the game’s original, “forbidden” story mode, in which it appears an army of android clones of the Z Warriors — seemingly lead by a revived 16 — have to come to exterminate our heroes (and possibly our villains). We also learned that the title will be released in February 2018, and will be receiving both a CollectorZ Edition and a second open beta test (geared towards stress-testing Bandai Namco’s servers for the game, while the initial closed beta will focus more on balance testing).

After an extremely hype ESL tournament, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed our first look at gameplay for two more new characters, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta.

After the events of Battle of Gods, the last two pure-blooded Saiyan warriors have both internalized the divine power of the legendary Super Saiyan God form, becoming Super Saiyan God Super Saiyans, or “Super Saiyan Blue,” as Whis dubbed them. These alternate forms of Goku and Vegeta take up their own character slots, similar to Evil Ryu and Oni in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, or their previous appearance in Extreme Butoden for the 3DS. Boasting unique normal and special attacks, these two Saiyan deities will play extremely differently than their original Super Saiyan counterparts. They even boast unique Meteor Attacks, in the form of the Kaioken X10 God Kamehameha and the Final Flash Attack, a single punch infused with the full power of a Final Flash — recently used against Goku Black in the Future Trunks Arc of Dragon Ball Super. Translations of the latest Jump scans reveal that SSB Goku has a move for every situation, including a Command Grab and an aerial rushing attack, but is so blindingly fast that he may be difficult to properly control. While SSB Vegeta foregoes any sort of defensive options to specialize in a powerful offense that includes extremely strong striking attacks, along with smashing his enemies into the ground, giving me the impression he could be the Akuma or Millia Rage of DBFZ. Given the developers commitment to having no clone characters in the roster, it’s likely that the SSB forms will not completely outclass base Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta. Glacius displays the power of black ice in his Ultimate for Killer Instinct Season 3

The Ultimates Monster Pack has finally arrived today, free of charge for all Killer Instinct players. Providing Ultimates for Mira, Aganos, Saberwulf, Hisako, and Glacius. Iron Galaxy celebrated yesterday by releasing video of the ice extraterrestrial’s new finisher — which you can see below.

Beginning by summoning giant ice balls in both of his hands, Glacius uses them like boxing gloves to punch his opponent, before smashing them together to knock back his foe. He then pounds the ground, leaving a trail of ice and summoning an ice clone to juggle the victim — then summoning a bed of black icicles, which impale the opponent as they fall into them. The camera then zooms in on a victorious Glacius, who begins to frost up the edges of the screen.

Did you enjoy this latest Ultimate, or did you think it was a bit too censored for Glacius? Tell us in the comments below. You can see the other Ultimates included in the Ultimates Monster Pack below. Killer Instinct is now available for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, with a future Steam release forthcoming.

New Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite footage from Maximilian provides first look at New Metro City and Dark Kingdom stages

Frequent FGC content uploader Maximilian has released a new video of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, showcasing off the recently announced New Metro City and Dark Kingdom stages. We also get some new footage of Haggar and Nemesis battling Thor and Strider, clad in some of their alternate colors that will be returning from Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, as well as Thor and Morrigan facing Doctor Strange and Strider in the “Dark Kingdom”.

Perhaps most importantly though, Max noted that he has seen the effects of the Soul Infinity Stone, noting that he won’t have any footage of it in action until next week, as it’s likely being revealed at Gamescom next Tuesday. According to Max, it is “exactly what you think it is and way more,” and that it’s “one of the things [he’s] more excited about” in MvC:I at present.

A few months back, Ryce — who leaked the majority of the game’s base roster — noted that the Stone’s Infinity Surge allows the user to steal some life from the opposing team, while the Infinity Storm allows the user to revive a dead character. With Max seemingly indicating that there is more to the sixth and final Stone, perhaps we’ll be seeing the return of the “Variable Cross” or “Duo Team Attack” feature from 1998’s Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released on September 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam in North America and Europe, with a Japan release following on September 21st.

Balrog and TJ Combo box for supremacy on the latest edition of Death Battle

Over the course of their Death Battle series, ScrewAttack have featured several matchups between fighting game characters, such as Sol Badguy vs. Ragna the Bloodedge, Ryu vs. Scorpion, and in an episode of Death Battle X, Noel Vermillion vs. Aigis.

Their most recent episode pits the signature boxers of Street Fighter and Killer Instinct, Balrog and TJ Combo, in a three-round bout for 2D punching supremacy. After going over the two fighters’ respective backgrounds — noting that the “Dirty Buffalo” is a Slugger, while TJ’s style is that of an Out-Boxer — we see the two duke it out in the ring.

Get terrified by Hisako’s Ultimate in Killer Instinct Season 3

The dawn of another week means that the Ultimates Monster Pack for Killer Instinct — which will be released for free next Tuesday, August 22nd, is another seven days closer. This week, the team at Iron Galaxy has revealed the upcoming Ultimate for the ghostly warrior Hisako.

Hisako then exits the corpse and glares at the camera — as only she can. You can see a full video of the Ultimate being performed on Cinder below.

Check back next week for Glacius’s new Ultimate, the day before the Pack goes live. You can see the other Ultimates that have been revealed for the pack so far below.

PG|Punk ranks Rashid at the top of his Street Fighter V Season 2.5 tier list

Panda Global’s Victor “Punk” Woodley is a player that needs no introduction to fans of Street Fighter V. Since his 1st place victory at NEC 17 last December, the Karin player has proven to be an absolute force in the scene, taking home first place at events such as Winter Brawl XI, West Coast Warzone 6, Norcal Regionals 2017, DreamHack Austin 2017 — and of course, becoming the grand champion of the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational. Though he fell to Echo Fox’s Tokido in the grand finals of Evolution 2017, he quickly bounced back with a victory at DreamHack Atlanta 2017, and most recently, a 2nd place finish at Defend The North 2017, leaving him as the top-ranked player on both the Capcom Pro Tour global leaderboard and our own SRK world rankings. Many believe him to be the absolute best player of the game in the world today.

Following all of this great success, “Da God” recently released his current tier list for Season 2.5. While he has some of the usual suspects, like Balrog, Ibuki, Zangief, Necalli, and Akuma, placed at the very top, with his own character sitting as the 6th best, he has a unique candidate sitting at the very top of the class: Rashid of the Turbulent Wind.

Though the character has seen his fair share of success in the hands of players like ZOWIE|OilKing and Moke — who made top 8 at Evo this year — it’s perhaps a surprise to see one of the world’s strongest players declaring him the absolute best in the game’s current climate.

During a conversation with fellow Panda Global teammate, Raynel “RayRay” Hidalgo, Punk offered a better look at his reasoning for the character’s high placement. Dubbing him “mad cheap,” Punk feels that Rashid, “just does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and you can’t stop him from doing it,” but was quick to note that this is not a matchup problem, as he “always beats him.”

During the Season 2 balance changes, Rashid received improved hitboxes on his standing medium kick and standing heavy punch, increased damage on his Spinning Mixers and light and medium Eagle Spikes, as well as several improvements to his combo potential. You can see Punk’s full tier list, created using MMCafe, as well as his string of tweets about it, below. Abigail was left unranked, due to Punk’s lack of experience in the matchup, as of now.

Do you believe Punk is right in that we could see a Turbulent Wind blowing through the Capcom Pro Tour, or do you believe he has rated him a bit too high? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. For an alternate perspective, you can see Bonchan, Fuudo and Haitani’s Season 2.5 tier list here.

Kayane interviews Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki about a Switch release and cross-platform play

Back at Evo 2017 last month, French fighting game player Kayane caught up with the producer for the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tomoko Hiroki, along with Arc System Works’ director Junya Motomura to discuss a variety of topics related to the game.

On the subject of releasing the game on the Nintendo Switch, which already has seen some fighting game action in the forms of Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, ARMS, and the upcoming  Pokkén Tournament DX, Hiroki noted that they couldn’t really say anything about that situation. “However, we do know that we would like our Switch users to focus on our first Switch title: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. After the release of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on the Switch, [which comes out on September 7th in Japan, before launching worldwide on the 22nd] then we will start considering whether we should have Dragon Ball FighterZ on the Switch.”

On the subject of cross-platform play, as well as the recent partnership between Capcom and Bandai Namco Entertainment to improve the quality of online infrastructure for titles like Street Fighter V, Kayane questioned Hiroki about the possibility of cross-play for Dragon Ball FighterZ. “At this time, we don’t have any plans for this game to go cross-platform. We would first prioritize on unlocking each platform’s respective features with the game.”

Lastly, Motomura spoke on what’s been the most difficult challenge when creating this project. “Probably the hardest thing is to make the character as close as possible to the original animation, however the modelers have done a tremendous job to make it happen. Another thing is developing the character’s battle characteristics, while at the same time not breaking their original images. We probably spent the most time in perfecting those two aspects.”

You can see the entire interview below — which includes the developer’s policy on GT and Super characters, when development discussions began, the future of the Xenoverse series, why they chose a 3V3 format over 2V2 or 1V1, and much more.

X-Kira discovers classic Cammy and Urien stages, and more in new Street Fighter V datamining results

The hits just seem to keep on coming from data miner X-Kira. Hot off the heels of discovering references and code for the return of the classic barrel bonus stage, X-Kira has discovered even more new stages for the game, that could possibly be heading to the game as early as the remainder of Season 2.

The arenas included are Cammy’s classic Super Street Fighter II stage, “Lichtenstein Castle,” as well as Urien’s Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike stage, “Olmec Ruins.” Both of these will contain remixes of their original stage themes. Kira’s also discovered stages for Rainbow Mika, “The Ring,” F.A.N.G’s “Nguuaho Palace,” seemingly based off of the backgrounds seen in the pair’s official SFV artwork, and the Capcom Wrestling Association (CWA) Ring seen in A Shadow Falls. He believes these could all be released before the end of Season 2, but of course can’t confirm that claim.

X-Kira also mentions the presence of an “Ayutthaya Ruins” stage, set to be the first one released during Season 3. Located in Thailand, this could perhaps be an indication that Sagat will be making his grand return as the first of six more characters in the 2018 Character Pass, likely to be announced at PlayStation Experience following the conclusion of Capcom Cup. With a Classic Ibuki stage mentioned in one of his previous reports, this lends even more credence to the idea that the much-longed-for Arcade Mode, which is fully functioning in the game’s current code, could be coming to players soon.

You can see more information, as well as some concepts of these upcoming stages on X-Kira’s Facebook page. Usual reminder: we don’t know for sure if any of this content is going to be released to the public, or when, until confirmed by Capcom.

Are you excited about this new content potentially coming to Street Fighter V in the future? Are there any other classic stages from older games you’d like to see fully remastered and reimagined in SFV? Tell us how you feel in the comments below.
