Frabisaur and AceUnlimited open Marshall’s Dojo to give players an introduction to the world of Tekken 7

With ten episodes of The Fighter’s Dojo now under his belt, Genex|Frabisaur has decided to dive into the world of Tekken 7 for his next project: Marshall’s Dojo!

With many new players, including himself, looking to join the King of Iron Fist Tournament 7, this series should serve as a great springboard to anyone looking to learn the game — providing a look at a relatively new player learning the ropes from a veteran player with over a decade of experience. Enlisting the help of top Tekken player Dominique “AceUnlimited” McCowin, the two provide insight into the mentality of character choice in the 3D fighter, along with details of the stage select screen and its various icons, which contain crucial information for any player.

Next, they move on to the concepts of utilizing the “Core 4” tools of Tekken: jabs, launchers, throws, and strings, as Ace teaches the nuances of the Tekken’s poking game and how to properly utilize the game’s primary pokes and jabs in your pressure and offense. However, he strongly advises against falling into patterns that could result in you being launch-punished for big damage, as opposed to perhaps being a “go-to” or “guaranteed option,” for players in other games. You can see the full video, with training mode demonstrations, below!

For more information, you can reach out to AceUnlimited on Facebook, or, as always, hit up Frabisaur on Twitter or catch his stream at http://www.twitch.tv/frabisaur, where he will be hosting weekly episodes of Tekken Live very soon. Frabisaur also compiled more great resources to help you along your Tekken journey in the video description, so be sure to take a look.

The second episode, focusing on throwing specifically, is also already available to view:

Injustice 2 Red Hood roundup: combos, tips, tricks, and intros

For owners of the Ultimate/Digital Deluxe editions or “Fighter Pack 1,” Injustice 2‘s first DLC character, Red Hood, has been available for a few days now — and many players are scrambling to see what the revived assassin can do in these early days of “exclusive access.”

ElChakotay brings us a combo video featuring some very stylish sequences, including placing two mines, as well as two meter burn shurikens in a single combo, along with some great usage of his Trait — which allows the former Jason Todd to add shock pads to his dual pistols — granting him access to a rekka chain to extend his combos and notably increase his damage output.

LOSTyGIRL has compiled all of Hood’s intro dialogue, and shows off some Premiere skins.

As he’s done with other characters, rooflemonger brings us both a bread & butter combo guide — covering multiple situations and difficulty levels — as well as a tips & tricks video going over applications for his tools and early findings.

Cody Dickson bring us a video “encompassing all of Red Hood’s abilities,” showing off combos from jump-ins, mine setups, meterless and metered options, Trait juggles, air throw setups, and even a full combo into his super.

Lastly, Shujinkydink shows us combos for mid-screen and  corner situations, as well as a potentially impractical-yet fancy sequence off of his F3 overhead, involving a Trait cancel.

We’re sure to see more tech for the character emerge in the coming days and weeks — especially since he releases for all players this Tuesday, July 20th — so stay tuned to Shoryuken.

Frank Yagami continues counting down his top 10 favorite fighting games by looking at the Tekken series

After a lengthy break, The Fighters Generation webmaster Frank Yagami is back to counting down his top 10 favorite fighting games, again, in no particular order. This time, Yagami takes a special look at the series he is perhaps known best for, given his reviews and myriad of match uploads: Tekken.

He’s a huge fan of the series since its initial installment, due to Namco’s penchant for creating a unique and diverse cast of characters, as well as continuously pushing the franchise foward in terms of animations, additional moves, and deeply complex mechanics. He notes that two titles from The King of the Iron Fist have made his list, with Tekken 5/Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection coming in at #6. After declaring it “The greatest experience I’ve ever had playing an arcade game, period,” due to living a few hours away from several outlets with thriving offline scenes–most notably Beachland Arcade–he praises the entry for coming at a time (2004-2005) when other fighting game developers didn’t have much going on in the way of new or memorable titles. He also brought up the innovative design choices of adding DualShock 2 ports to the cabinets, allowing players to bring their personal controllers from home to use, as well as being the first fighting game to use the card system that is now commonplace in Japanese Arcades, allowing players to keep track of their personal stats, as well as their customized characters. After finally touching upon Dark Resurrection‘s online component, as well as his little-known 1st-place victory at CEO 2010, Yagami moves on to an Honorable Mention that didn’t make his list: Tekken 6.

Though he praises the Bound System and the game’s detailed character models (that are even superior to its successor, Tekken Tag Tournament 2) he notes it missed the bar, due to the lack of a widespread arcade release in North America. Arcades were dying out in this country, and the cabinet being too expensive for most remaining arcade owners to afford–since it cost a whopping $10,000-$11,000.

Finally, Yagami moves on to the #5 title of his list, which is, of course, Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Though certainly an unforgiving game for newcomers, Yagami joyfully recalls the sheer amount of creativity the game allows in terms of combos, as well as the Tag System and massive roster size–though he admits he’s ready to return to 1V1 in Tekken 7.

You can catch the full video below–which is certainly a great watch for any and all Tekken fans, especially if you were around the community in those days.

You can check his other vlogs, which include Samurai Shodown 2 & Street Fighter Alpha 3, as well as Garou: Mark of the Wolves, here and here.

As we gear up for the release of Tekken 7, feel free to share some of your favorite Tekken memories and franchise entries in the comments below!
