eGG releases trailer for Project Fight Club, starring several familiar FGC faces

We’re breaking the first and second rules of Project Fight Club right now.

With the rise of fighting games in the esports climate, we’re seeing many networks and shows come up with attempts to showcase the fighting game community in different ways. Yet another one has surfaced — with some entertaining twists.

eGG Network — an esports entertainment network based in Southeast Asia — has released a trailer for Project Fight Club, showing off Marn, Justin Wong, HumanBomb, Xian, Rose Ma, and Oil King among the participants. While focusing on Street Fighter, there also seem to be some twists — including random character battle,s and what seems to be shuffleboard matches.

No other information has surfaced on when the series will launch, at least not yet.

Heihachi delivers heaps of damage in this Tekken 7 combo video

Heihachi has been the oft-neglected Mishima of Tekken 7, with Kazuya, Devil Jin, and Jin himself taking the forefront of most competitive play. You’ll often hear as much electricity as a God Fist produced from the crowd in the event that JDCR does pull out Heihachi in competitive play.

This combo video shows the technical side of the character, with some of the best damage Heihachi has to offer. Showing off some precise electrics in combination with some amazing stage interactions, this combo video is one to watch.

Punk signs with Team Reciprocity

Last week saw the departure of multiple players from Echo Fox. Punk was one of the casualties of their cutbacks — having only this year signed with the team upon his departure from Panda Global.

Punk, however, was quick to get back on his feet with a new team. His signing with Team Reciprocity was announced today — which marks the FPS team’s first foray into the fighting game community.

Time will tell how well other Echo Fox releases — JDCR, Saint, Scar, Theo, and Boeken — will bounce back from their departures.

GameSpot Versus regulars show off their chops in the 3-on-3 team format in Super Street Fighter II Turbo

GameSpot Versus is notorious for running East vs. West style tournaments, where two large teams battle it out in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Their previous event took a slight deviation from that norm, where they instead offered the same high-level play in a 3-on-3 team format with a single-elimination bracket.

With the myriad of players and characters on offer at the tournament, there is no doubt many things to see and learn from their play, and the level of intensity with every match is nothing short of spectacular.

Undamned aims to make CPS2 board suicides a thing of the past with InfiniKey-CPS2

Keep your arcade classics alive with this amazing brain transplant!

As we have discussed before, one of the pitfalls of owning CPS2 arcade boards is the fact that these boards are prone to hardware failure, typically by losing their decryption keys when the battery on them dies. This requires a delicate surgery of replacing the batteries once a year at least. Further adding to the stress of maintenance is the fact that if you don’t change the battery quickly enough during the process, it can lead to the same catastrophic failure that occurs if the battery dies on its own.

Those days of having to do routine maintenance may be a thing of the past. Taking what was learned from reverse-engineering the encryption methods on the CPS2, arcade board and supergun enthusiast Undamned has created a circuit board designed to be installed on CPS2 boards to ensure that the board will continue to boot even if the battery dies. The board — which he has dubbed the InfiniKey-CPS2 — injects the necessary decryption keys into the CPS2 board when the board is powered up, allowing you continued usage of your favorite arcade classics, such as Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

While he has yet to announce a widespread release of the board, one would expect anyone with a CPS2 board will be incredibly eager to grab it when it is released!

A testament to the level of depth in your favorite title is whether it will be played with any level of seriousness when it gets replaced on the circuit. With three NetherRealm titles proceeding it — Injustice: Gods Among Us, Mortal Kombat X, and Injustice 2 — the fact that Mortal Kombat 9 still sees play shows that it is a title that stands the test of time.

At Thunderstruck in Mexico, two of the current best in the title sat down to play a long, high-level set against each other. Between ETC McFly’s Kung Lao and Under the Mayo’s Quan Chi, we see a neck-and-neck battle of amazing reads, setups, and spacing that show Mortal Kombat 9 at its purest competitive form.

New mini-documentary shows off the competitive Super Street Fighter II Turbo scene

From 7-Elevens to Combo Breaker!

No game has as storied a competitive scene as Super Street Fighter II Turbo. With its roots stemming nearly 25 years ago in arcades, the game has achieved tournament longevity due to a group of dedicated enthusiasts with arcade boards, Dreamcast consoles, and various forms of online play.

With this documentary, we see some of the top players showcased and interviewed about why this game is their obsession of choice. It also explains how the game has still managed to attract newer and younger players as it continues its storied journey through the decades.

Echo Fox releases FGC Division Manager Boeken as part of their restructuring

The cuts keep coming — but it’s not a player this time.

We have recently seen the dominant FGC team Echo Fox begin to slim down their FGC division recently, among other cuts that saw their Gears of War team also cut. Just when you thought it was safe, another hit is taken.

FGC division manager Boeken recently took to Twitter to announce he was no longer with the esports team, signalling further cuts from their FGC department — which has already seen Street Fighter player Punk, Tekken players JDCR and Saint, and NetherRealm players Theo and Scar all released from their contracts. Whether this signals that even further cuts will come remains to be seen — nor do we know who is now in charge of their FGC division at this time.
