In recent years, we have went from the majority of top players using joysticks to seeing a more diverse amount of controllers on the circuit. This has almost always been the case, however, for Tekken — as the button layout for the game lends itself to a wide array of controllers.

TheMainManSWE just broke down multiple options in one video. He goes over the standard joystick, controller, and keyboard — the latter of which he likens to the Hitbox. He talks about the pros and the cons of each control option, so that players who haven’t figured out which one to use can make an informed choice on their purchases.

One of the most notorious things about The King of Fighters gameplay is getting your opponent into the corner: with all of the movement options and offensive tools afforded you by the game itself, a mark of a great player is being able to make your opponent make the wrong decisions when their back is against the wall.

With Yuri in The King of Fighters XIV, she has all the tools needed to play a pristine corner game, including a dive kick which can stuff many reversals on reset, and several safe jump options that can beat all attempts to get out of the corner. In this video, we see many examples of this, including her blowing up evasion attempts from characters like Kim, Gang-il, and Leona.

Tekken 7‘s Howard Estate stage has seen its fair share of 100% combos since its release with Geese. Surprisingly, one character that hasn’t been able to do that much has been King. Relying on his grab combo ender, he doesn’t have as much in the way of wall-carry potential, which is necessary to take advantage of the stage’s multiple breakable walls.

However, the key for King is not to carry off of the balcony, but he can optimize all of his damage between the second and third walls of Howard Estate. This video show some of his most optimal combos on this stage.

With SoulCalibur VI on display at the Consumer Electronics Show this last weekend, Sajam and Rip were on the scene to try their hand at the game. Sajam — despite gaining his experience with 3D Fighters through the Tekken series — had positive things to say about the upcoming title.

While the build at CES only featured Mitsurugi and Sophitia, Sajam had good things to say about the game’s movement and mechanics, and even praised the Reversal Edge mechanic for adding another level of complexity to the system.

King has a very interesting move in his d/f+2,1 input. While it can immediately be strung together, you can actually slightly delay the 1 input, which can either act as a frame trap or launch the opponent on counter hit. From there, you can get a juggle, but the options truly depend on what character you are facing.

J King discusses this by grouping characters into three classifications, then showing the various options King has off of the move after the launch for each classification. Some can be damaging, and others not so much — but this is a useful, yet often-overlooked tool of King’s.

With Bas hosting 72 players for Capcom Vs. SNK 2‘s side tournament at Evo Japan, it’s pretty obvious that the Japanese scene is gearing up for one of the biggest tournaments for the game in recent years. So it goes without saying that Gamespot Versus has seen regular attendees upping their play in readiness for the big event.

Thankfully, Silentscope has posted a replay of their most recent tournament — held just before Christmas — on his YouTube channel, so that we can see the level of play we can look forward to in two weeks! Will Bas hold onto his crown or will someone else become the new king of CvS2?
