Alex Has a New Tick Throw Setup in Street Fighter V Season 2

While the jury is still out on Alex’s place in the tiers in Street Fighter V Season 2, there is still some new tech to be discovered for the Brooklyn brawler that could make Alex mains feel better about their fate. One such discovery has opened up, and looks to be somewhat viable.

VesperArcade has discovered that since his Powerdrop startup has increased from 5 frames to 6 frames, Alex can now cancel into it from his heavy slash on the last possible frame to create a tick throw setup. This not only opens up his in the throw game a lot more, but also adds various mixups–which they go into detail about in their video.

Elevate’s Mr.R May Be Unable to Attend US Tournaments Due to Trump’s Travel Ban

Last week saw United States President Donald Trump sign an executive order restricting travel to the United States of citizens and immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, and Libya for a total of four months. While the implications and controversy of this signing will assuredly play out on the political and international stage for a long time to come, it is quite possible that the FGC itself has seen a casualty to this travel ban.

Ramin “Mr.R” Delshad, the current #10 ranked Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player and member of Elevate Gaming, is a Dutch national whose family originally come from Iran. As such, it is uncertain whether he will be able to attend US tournaments as a result of the executive order. He has taken to Twitter to state that while contacting the United States embassy in the Netherlands, he received notice that the travel ban extends to dual nationals.

However, when reading more information provided from the US government, he is given a conflicting report that dual nationals are protected by their issuing document. Thus if he provides a Dutch passport, he will be treated as a Dutch citizen and allowed entrance.

At any rate, the confusion and the concerns over his legal rights has forced him to opt out of going to various early events in the United States, going to Japan to train instead.

Mr.R is certainly not the only player that is feeling the effect of this travel ban sadly, as Street Fighter V player Arman “Phenom” Hanjani is also affected by the current travel restrictions.

Current reports from the US State Department indicate that as long as a person traveling to the USA has a valid passport from an unrestricted country, has a valid US visa and uses that unrestricted passport, they should not be affected by the executive order. As long as Mr.R has a Dutch passport and Phenom has a Norwegian passport, both should be able to attend US events without issue.

BrolyLegs Receives Sponsorship from AbleGamers

It looks like one of the best Chun-Li players in the United States is going to officially get a chance to prove it. Mike “BrolyLegs” Begum, a top online and tournament player from Texas, has received a sponsorship deal from AbleGamers.

Begum is not only notorious for having a strong Chun-Li in both Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, but has done so with a major disability that gives him limited usage of his arms and legs. In order to compensate for his disability, he plays on a controller and uses his mouth to play along with various key bindings that act as slight option selects for the normal moves he wants to do.

This sponsorship with AbleGamers is an amazing deal for him, as the group itself is a charity focused on bettering people with disabilities through video games. Begum has notoriously had travel issues due to his disability, requiring a specialized van for travel and someone to drive it. These limitations have seen him focus his competitive efforts within his native Texas and at Evo, with the rest of his competitive play being online. This sponsorship will surely give him the opportunity to travel more and show the world what he is capable of.

Hibiki has some amazing mixup options in BlazBlue: Central Fiction, but nothing is scarier than his mixups off of DP. The move, when combined with Rapid Cancel, provides for some very dangerous mixup situations.

Combos in Guilty Gear and other airdash-style fighters are very finicky beasts. This is particularly true if you are coming to the series with a background in a game such as Street Fighter. The latter game has a very linear approach to combos, where you only have to check your range to an extent and whether the hit confirm is a counter hit or not.

There are far more variables to consider within Guilty Gear, such as your air trajectory as well as spacing, whether the move is a counter hit, or even whether both hits of a normal connects. It is for this reason that the Street Fighter Guide to Guilty Gear is exploring the difference between the combo systems in the two games, in the next part of their tutorial series.

Capcom Teams with Lupe Fiasco to Announce Street Fighter V’s Second Season 2 DLC Character

At long last, we’re finally going to know more about the Street Fighter V season 2 cast! Teaming up with rapper Lupe Fiasco, the announcement of the second DLC character will come at the launch party of his new album: Drogas Light.

The event–which will be held on February 15th in San Francisco at the Folsom Street Foundry–will be a celebration of both Lupe’s music and of Street Fighter as well. Not only will the character reveal be held there, but there will also be exhibition matches, a cosplay contest, and an eight-person Street Fighter V tournament which will feature Liquid|NuckleDu and EG|Ricki Ortiz.

The event is free to enter (ages 18 and up), so if you want to be in the crowd for it, make sure you’re there early! Additional event details can be seen on Capcom-Unity.

Catch the Madness from Frosty Faustings IX’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Tournament

Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is facing quite the revival since its re-release onto the PlayStation 4, and the results of the game are getting shaken up in big ways. There were a lot of heavy hitters at Frosty Faustings IX, including two former world champions in EG|NYChrisG and Kane Blue River. Ultimately–however–neither one of them were able to finish the job, leaving RyanLV’s unique team of Chun-Li, Morrigan, and Phoenix to come out on top.
