ARIKA publishes Fighting EX Layer platform release schedule for November & December 2018, teases Sharon

Fighting EX Layer has shared their latest release schedule for the rest of 2018. This schedule shows off the dates for the Arcade release (v. 1.1.1) in Japan (11/29), the Steam and PlayStation 4 update to 1.1.1 (11/30), and the release of the physical copy of Fighting EX Layer in Japanese stores (12/6).

Bubbling up at the end of the video was an exciting tease — on 12/14, ARIKA will reveal more information on their 2019 release schedule. Superimposed on a brief tease of pending DLC character Sharon, it’s safe to say that at least one new character is on the horizon.

FGC Philosophy talks about growth-oriented mindsets with Tekken 7 pro Lenell “L-Train” Dinkins

Hazardous Gaming’s Lenell “L-Train” Dinkins is a pro player from the Detroit scene most recently known for winning Youmacon Battle Opera 2018.  One of the reasons he’s reached that point is because of his focus on mental growth — and considering he started his experience in the FGC with an immediate $60 money match loss, it’s hard to think anything other than a strong will would have kept him around.

“Never feel like you’ve arrived” was advice from his father that L-Train has kept to his chest, and its core message is central to the conversation in his 30 minute interview with The Philocypher. Check out the podcast above for excellent advice on how to stay focused and improve in any game you play.

The Fighters eXceed show off Paul Phoenix’s tech traps, wall mixups, and more in Tekken 7

Tekken 7‘s Paul Phoenix has undeniably solid fundamental tools that work at every level of play. Beyond his strong, simple tools and belligerent coin-flips, though, he has surprising gimmicks on okizeme that can melt the life-bars of opponents that didn’t understand the situation they were in.

If you know your opponent likes to tech early, or if they like to tech at the wall, Paul gets to work some frightening back-turned damage or instant 50/50’s. Considering the damage output Paul traditionally has, you only need these to work once or twice to get them to get inside your opponents head.

Here’s how Namco reshaped Dragunov’s toolkit in Tekken 7 Season 2

As That Blasted Salami has worked their way through all the 1000+ changes in Tekken 7 Season 2, one thing has noticeably stood out: nearly everyone, even previously “top tier” characters like Devil Jin, ultimately found themselves in a stronger (or at least more even) place than they were before.

If there’s any character this demonstrably isn’t true of, though, it’s Dragunov. While certainly not a “bad character” post patch, Dragunov’s toolkit refocused to take advantage of some more nuanced, situational skills such as his new wall bounce and command grab game. Check out the latest breakdown video above to see the exact ways in which Dragunov was reshaped in Season 2.

Equinox Gaming signs European Tekken 7 Josie pro Adnan “Blackbeard” Zaman

Tekken 7 Josie pro Adnan “Blackbeard” Zaman has been making waves in the European Tekken scene for years, perhaps most notably when he pulled off a major upset in 2017 by defeating odds-on-favorite Tissuemon at Paris Games Week. He’s consistently kept top placements since then, so it’s no surprise to see that he’s now snagged himself a nice sponsorship via Equinox Gaming:

With this signing, Equinox Gaming has a exceptionally strong pool of Tekken talent — Blackbeard joins the ranks of T7 pros Joey Fury and Dimeback.

New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate overview trailer shows off amiibo leveling, new training options, and more

As we inch closer to the December 7th release date for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo has been pushing out more and more trailers to hype up the product. While these typically don’t have much in the way of FGC-related info, the latest trailer — designed mostly to show off the voice acting of announcer Xander Mobus — slips in some useful details about the game’s new training mode. Specifically, it looks like it will always show you the exact possible DI (directional influence) routes from any knockback attack.

As vital as a good training mode is, hopefully this is a good sign of the depth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s Training Mode has to offer.
