Tekken 7 roundup: Heihachi crossups, Jin Parry combos, Eliza wall carry, and more!

Another week, another avalanche of strange and powerful tech in the world of Bandai Namco’s juggernaut 3D fighter, Tekken 7.

Do you have a tech trap developed for your character yet? Because it seems like a lot of people are starting to figure out consistent ways to exploit wall techs in this game… For example, check out this insane crossup with Heihachi from ncea. Normally when you see a crossup it involves the overlapping hitbox of forward jump 4’s, but ncea has found new ways to exploit waking up hitboxes.

Leonid Vdovichenko found that tech trap situations make Xiaoyu’s RDS U+1 to hit on a later frame, allowing her to combo into AOP 2,1.

If you ever wondered why the Japanese tier lists consistently put Claudio so low despite his amazing hopkick, this punishment guide from Proper Tech might open your eyes.

Byakko shows off some 3rd Strike-esque parry punishes with this Jin Kazama combo video.

HelloMrBrahms has a ridiculous wall carry combo for Eliza to show off. It looks like you’re gonna hit the opposite wall no matter where you are.

Lastly, if you’re still struggling with combos for Ling, Kazuya, Lili or Akuma, rooflemonger has continued his excellent beginner combos series for those characters:

Did we miss anything? If you find any cool tech in Tekken, let us know!

In addition, AnimEvo confirmed there will be a future announcement about guaranteed prizes for the free event.

Eighty Sixed is already confirmed to be offering prizes for other AnimEvo events. Could the future Gundam prizes be related, or is perhaps Bandai Namco offering their support behind this free-to-enter tournament?

LI Joe shares his E3 demo impressions of Dragon Ball FighterZ with Cross Counter TV

Rarely has a fighting game with as little build-up to E3 as Dragon Ball FighterZ wowed the the floor (and the world!) so thoroughly. The more cynical among us might think this is because of the nostalgia factor — Arc System Works has married Dragon Ball’s art style beautifully with their Guilty Gear Xrd cell shading. Visuals are all well and good, but we’re FGC. What about the game play?

That’s why I find Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli’s first impression of the game so interesting. Joe is a renowned Street Fighter tournament specialist who didn’t grow up with the anime adaptation of Drgaon Ball Z. He is exactly the sort of person most likely to shrug at a cut-scene of two Super Saiyans screaming at each other — and yet, here we are: like nearly everyone else that got to play the game, Joe walked away impressed with the gameplay. He has some concerns about the similarity of gameplay of the six currently-available characters, but also notes: “It’s a tech demo at E3 … If it fleshes out, I think it’ll be a damn good game.”

Capcom enters into cross-licensing agreement with Bandai Namco for “online matching” content development

Capcom Japan just dropped a press release revealing their new cross-licensing agreement with Bandai Namco. Per the press release, the nature of the agreement is specifically in relation to “online matching” properties such as (but not specifically) Street Fighter.

It’s perhaps a little surprising that Capcom hadn’t already entered into such a contract, given the two companies’ close work with each other on past titles. The press release mentions this is in the “interest of accelerating production of titles and reducing development cost.” Now that both Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V are out in the wild, though, one might wonder if this is a hint at the long-buried Tekken X Street Fighter crossover in the works on Namco’s side.

Without further information, however, anything at this point would be pure speculation.

NurseLee breaks down Ed’s throw loop game for Street Fighter V

It appears that Ed took a page from his mentor’s Super Turbo handbook.

Ed has a really oppressive mixup game after he lands a throw in the corner, and as NurseLee explains, this is going to be a key element in playing the character at a high-level. The severely limited get-up options the opponent has from a throw means that Ed can continually pressure with throw/attack mixups, even snuffing out 3-frame jabs after quick rise with dash > grab.

Imagine how scary it’ll be if Balrog teaches him how to do this mid-screen in Season 3.

Blow up back roll in Street Fighter V with World Warrior’s Ken sweep setups

Since game’s release, Ken’s fiery playstyle has lent itself well to Street Fighter V‘s offense-favoring pace. Even with changes to the overall system directly impacting Ken’s shoryuken, the pressure-centered shoto remains a tournament threat.

World Warrior’s latest video examines the meaty setups you can employ if your opponent back rolls after a sweep. In a few short guesses, the strategies here allow you quickly net a stun. The timing employed allows him to land meaty standing HP for crush counter opportunities, or dash into crouching MP for pressure/combo versatility.
