There was a consensus that Antonov wasn’t quite complete in Version 1.00 of The King of Fighters XIV. The self-proclaimed King of Fighters had the long limbs of a poking monster, but his versatility and damage conversions were lacking. As the patch notes for version 2.00 rolled out, it became clear that developer SNK agreed.
The King of Fighters XIV‘s cigar-munching strongman is now sporting an extra 100 health (despite his smoking habit!), several new OTG combo opportunities, and the ability to super cancel his overhead hitting crouching heavy kick. As Persona Entertainment‘s latest combo video demonstrates, the Boss now hits like one.
SNK revealed via their KOF WORLD facebook page that there’s a secret command to unlock a frame counter for inputs. Not only that, but the command has been in the game since release, and no one found it!
Enter the following command in the Main Menu: , then press X and △ simultaneously.
* Keys: X and △ in the case of a default configuration on PS4.
* For other controllers and configurations, please use the buttons assigned to the “Light Kick” and “Heavy Punch” attacks.
If done correctly, then this is what you see:
Note that this is not frame data for moves, and the two should not be confused. This is a running frame counter between your own inputs.
It’s something of a standard in fighting games for on-the-cover protagonists to be both flashy and practical. Perhaps it’s hero bias, or maybe it’s just good marketing. Either way, Kyo never finds himself terribly far from the top, and playergodaines‘s combo guide will show you how to take advantage of that “main character”-level damage.
Though Kyo did receive a mixed bags of nerfs and buffs in the ver. 2.00 patch, Kyo still shines as a option heavy, effective battery that can easily fit into most teams. If you ever wanted to pick up the popular Team Japan Leader, there’s no time like the present.
Learning what moves are unsafe, and how to punish them, is a daunting task in Tekken. There’s a lot of variability between punish tools and character options, and a lot of different numbers to remember. And even if you know frame data, you also have to take into account push back on block!
YouTuber Just Frame‘s guide gives you a basic framework to simplify the learning process. If you feel your Tekken 7 game is ready to take the next step, this is a great primer before you jump into frame data resources like rbnorway’s site and Tekken Chicken.
Justin Wong recently sat down with Cross Counter TV to discuss how to break down match-ups in Street Fighter V:
The Karin-playing pro used the Karin vs. R. Mika match-up as his working example. By breaking down individual common tools, such as R. Mika’s dropkick, you’re able to figure out multiple solutions for common problems you’ll face in a match. Wong analyzes what he gains, and loses, from taking various actions. Though his examples are specific to his own character, the thought process behind learning and disassembling your opponent’s moves is universal.
Sales-estimating website SteamSpy is reporting a sudden burst in PC sales for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-; the timing of this surge coincides with the announcement of ArcSystemWorks’s upcoming anime fighter, Dragon Ball FighterZ. It appears new players are diving into the ASW catalog to prepare themselves for the impending Dragon Ball title.
On June 8, SteamSpy reported 37,600 owners for the popular air-dashing fighter. On June 9, the first reports of DBFZ’s existence were leaked. June 11 was the official announcement of Dragon Ball FighterZ. By June 11, SteamSpy estimated a new total of 46,366 owners, an increase of 8,766 total in 3 days. That’s about 19% of total sales for the game over three days. BlazBlue: Central Fiction also had a small push of about 2,000+ owners.
It is worth noting that SteamSpy is not 100% accurate, as it measures owners and not actual sales. However, the spike is quite unlike anything Xrd has seen on the Steam platform since its release.
After 7 iterations of its core series, Tekken has gathered a textbook’s worth of system mechanics. You, as a new player, may not be aware of their existence — or what to do when you face a situation involving them. rooflemonger’s latest beginner’s guide hopes to shed some light on these hidden subsystems for you.
Covered in this guide is:
sidewalking
universal running attacks
the ki charge
armor/corkscrews/full circle attacks
ultimate tackle and break options
the low parry
chickening a parry
If any of the above subsystems are new to you, this is definitely worth a watch. None of these systems are particularly difficult on their own, but you need knowledge to deal with them!
Robert Garcia, suavity personified, is the subject of playergodaines latest combo showcase. This combo video covers Robert’s damage options from 0 to 5 meters.
Though Robert saw more bad news than good in the latest patches (including a health nerf, hurtbox expansions, and multiple hitbox reductions), playergodaines shows that he’s still just fine in the damage department. This option-heavy, pokey Art of Fighting veteran still easily breaks 40% with Max Mode alone, and can even get 50% in the corner off the same amount of meter.
The collective Tekken 7 player base is finally starting to pick apart their game’s system, beyond just combos and heavy damage. Check out the traps below, and see if it inspires you find your own tricks!
Fergus61293 explains why the change to Asuka’s unblockable allows her to get a really ridiculous 50/50 in place of her combo enders.
BloodHawkTR is finding ways to force back-turned get-ups off of wall splats.
INFORCER23‘s video title is misleading, but the tech is golden. Any character can sidestep the oppressive Leo’s B+14 string to the right and get a free punish.
ncea is playing around with ways to cross up the camera if the opponent techs off the ground. Yes, which-ways exist in Tekken, too!
Yoite Suoh counters, though. Who needs which-ways when you can tech trap with unblockables? This isn’t the only sick Xiaoyu trap we have for you, though…
xMTSento has developed a really sick use for Xiaoyu’s Max Hypnotist 2. This move, you may remember, is +24, and it actually guard breaks. The pushout normally prevents you from following up, but in this tech trap situation, Ling gets guaranteed damage thanks to the shortened space.
Can’t have a Tekken post without some flashy combos, though. HapkidoRed‘s Dragunov and Kazyua combos hit hard and make full use of technical execution and stage awareness.
And lastly, jusful is back with a great King tutorial for improving your instant Shining Wizards.
This is, surely, just the beginning potential of what can be found with Tekken’s trap system. What can you find for your character?
