Latest FGC News ELEAGUE interviews provide a closer look at FChamp and Wolfkrone

Group C’s finals at ELEAGUE ended up being an intense spectacle for a lot of reasons, and both of the players interviewed by FGC News‘ David Gama were largely at the center of that hype.

On one side of this coin was Splyce’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez, the storied Marvel and Street Fighter pro who came so close to making it out of Group C, only to fall in a last round vortex versus 2013 Evolution Street Fighter Champ RZR|Xian. Conducted just after his elimination, FChamp vents and reflects on his path both in Street Fighter V, and in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

And on the other side, Joshua “Wolfkrone” Philpot, coming off his win against the same threatening Ibuki, Xian. Wolfkrone kept it brief: offering advice on how he personally leveled up, expressing his frustration with some characters, and his general love of ELEAGUE. And, of course, he talks about what caused his now-legendary beef with EG|K-Brad.

Nintendo will be running a tournament for ARMS at E3 2017 on June 14th

Nintendo’s slow pivot towards accepting esports continues. Among their recently revealed E3 plans, Nintendo just announced that they will be running two tournaments at E3: a Splatoon 2 invitational, and a tournament for their more experimental limb-stretching fighter, ARMS. While this is not their first time allowing the unreleased Dhalsim-simulator to be in tournament (that would be its appearance at Tokaigi 2017), it is the first time there will be an ARMS tournament on American soil, and the first Open Invitational tournament for the game.

Considering E3 is open to the public this year, there’s a chance some true fighting game heads will be able to enter the tournament. No announcement on price of entry or prizes have yet been made, so its safe to assume–until further notice–that this is a free-to-enter affair.

You can check out Nintendo’s press release here.

PlayStation Underground shows off Tekken 7 gameplay with MarkMan & Dalton Link

Tekken Community Adviser for Bandai Namco Mark “MarkMan” Julio appeared with Dalton Link on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel to show off the console build of Tekken 7:

In just over 30 minutes of footage, MarkMan demoed some gameplay with Eliza, Akuma, King, and Lucky Chloe. They also show off Arcade Battle to get item unlocks, then go straight into customization mode to equip their spoils. The customization mode is up to par with what we would expect from the Tekken franchise, with the nice new addition of being able to alter and customize the user interface in a way that your opponent can also see.

Sanae & Koa Gaming show off Marisa combos from the Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers demo

Touhou, if you have not run into it before, is an underground cultural phenomena of bullet hell shooters and fighting games, made by the one-man team “Team Shanghai Alice”. Recently, the team has announced the release of a new fighting game “Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers”–and a demo dropped for the game on the 7th. Well, sort of.

For those wanting to try the game, the only legal means to obtain it would be with 200 yen at Reitaisai, a yearly Touhou festival in Japan. As for what we know of the game itself, it’s going to be at least a 20-character roster with it’s own twist on a tag/assist mechanic. Sanae & Koa Gaming has put together this demonstration of combos for the character Marisa, and from it we can see the game has characters floating permanently in the air. Those hoping for a return to the more grounded style of Immaterial and Missing Power, arguably the series’ most well-known fighter, may be disappointed. For the rest, though, this weird fusion of Marvel‘s tag system and Astra Super Stars‘ floating may be just what they are looking for.

Japanese Tekken 7: Fated Retribution player “Doctor” provides anti-Gigas tips for King players

It’s one thing to provide tips and subtitles for your audience in your video content. It’s another thing all together to try and translate that information into a second language so that as wide an audience as possible can learn and enjoy the work you’re doing. That’s what Japanese player “Doctor” has done with his latest set of matches with high-level arcade Gigas players.

With over 30 minutes of footage you might be worried about information overload, but Doctor’s subtitles are evenly spread, to the point, and humorous enough when they need to be, even through translation. (“I gave up,” the subtitle admits dryly as King throws out a desperation, and easily parried, FC D/F+1.)

Keep opponents stunned by the beauty of your Vega wakeup play in Street Fighter V

rooflemonger has put together a nice in-depth guide for Vega’s okizeme game in Street Fighter V:

Covering Izuna Drop, HK/EX Roll, Crush Counter Sweep, EX Wall Dive, and his Critical Art, rooflemonger carefully breaks down how each wakeup timing interacts with his setups, and alternative wakeup options you can use versus your opponent’s most likely buttons. He also notes that versus characters with no 3 frame button, you can dash forward after EX Izuna Drop and do another Izuna Drop without fear of buttons. With command grab setups like this, you might just get mistaken for Zangief.

Playergodaines shares a comprehensive Yamazaki combo video for The King of Fighters XIV ver 2.01

Playergodaines is back, and this time he’s sharing with us combos for the former Yakuza bodyguard Yamazaki.

Yamazaki is a damage monster, capable of breaking 400+ with one bar Max Mode combos. It gets even scarier once he gets meter built up, in large part thanks to his new poison super “Pit Viper.” Using Pit Viper early in a long combo allows you to apply the poison damage, then watch it tick away during the cinematic of other supers. If you’ve wanted to learn Yamazaki, he appears to be very strong right now, and would likely fit well in the 2nd or 3rd slots on any team.

Double shows why grabbing is so risky in Pokkén Tournament’s Field Phase with synergy-building combos

In Pokkén Tournament, players jockey to win its 3D roaming Field Phase not for the damage-related purposes (unless you’re a zoning character!) but because the winner of Field Phase gets a massive synergy boost. Synergy is Pokkén’s super meter equivalent and, as Pokkén Pro Double demonstrates in his recent experiments below, some characters can wildly exploit this synergy boost in Field Phase to get full meter, or close to it, from one grab break.

These combos all take advantage of the Homing Cancel tech covered several months back. Whether or not this tech was a glitch originally, it’s clearly intended to stay, as it’s still in the latest build of the Japanese version. Maximizing your synergy gain post grab tech should, as the meta advances, become an integral part of tournament play.

Y. Xiao shows off new combo possibilities with The King of Fighters XIV’s Andy Bogard

Y. Xiao has put together a fun video showing off some of the new combos the younger Bogard brother can do in the latest patch for The King of Fighters XIV.

The primary combo-related buff Andy received is the expanded hitbox on his 2C, allowing him to connect it in places he otherwise couldn’t have. Y. Xiao also shows a few ways to re-stand after a wall splat from EX Zaneiken and EX Hishouken. Rounding it out is a 100% combo on the 950 health K’, and a impractical but flashy stun combo on King of Dinosaurs.

NurseLee shows off meaty setups for Guile’s Flying Mare air throw in Street Fighter V

Guile may be known primarily for his slow, long-distance projectile wars, but that doesn’t meant he can’t apply some sick pressure after the right knockdown.

NurseLee‘s “SFV Guile’s Flying Mare Setups -Season 2-” explores meaty setups off of Guile’s air throw. In it, NurseLee first introduces you to meaty options to beat a quick rise. What’s so clever about this is that without deliberately stating it, he shows how these same setups can be used to also beat delayed wake up. He also explores some V-Skill setups, demonstrating that it’s possible to turn this normally unsafe move into a frame trap after an air throw.
