P. Ling talks about Tekken 7’s Lei, Red Bull Conquest, Training, and more in BornFree interview

“I’m always moving. A lot of people think I’m a troll because I’m always doing something, but it feels natural for me.”

P. Ling is no stranger to the big stage — this online-born pro for UYU made big waves in 2016 as the highest finishing US player in The King of Iron Fist tournament. Despite his youth and uniquely erratic stance-heavy playstyle, he’s carved his own path and made himself one of the world’s most recognizable top players.

He still feels nervous about his place in the tournament scene — shocking, considering his tournament placements — but that self-awareness is what makes his interview with BornFree fascinating. Check out the video above to hear his thoughts on Online play, his history in the FGC, and more!

Armor King, Craig Marduk, Julia Chang revealed for Tekken 7 Season 2

If you were watching the Tekken World Tour finals, then you were likely as blind-sided as everyone else was when Harada-san revealed the rest of the Season 2 cast: Armor King, Marduk, and Julia Chang.

I guess if Paul can bring a wall with him everywhere, Marduk can lug a car around.

And Armor King has his own personal turnbuckle to flip onto? Tekken 7 intros are wild — but maybe not as wild as the fact that these two characters are going live tomorrow, Dec. 3rd.  Julia Chang was also revealed, though not included in the 12/3 release. Given the way characters are launched in Tekken 7, she will likely drop with Negan at a later date.

Speaking of Negan, we finally have our first glimpse at some Walking Tekken gameplay — and a new stage! Namco, needless to say, didn’t hold back with the bat —

Esports Arena Oakland to run launch-day tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

You probably already know this, but Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is poised to have a massive launch day this weekend. If you’re the type that likes to jump right in to offline battles, then we hope you’ll be able to find a way to Oakland, CA on Dec. 7th!

Esports Arena Oakland is pouncing on the opportunity to be one of the first large-scale venues in the states to run a tournament for the new Nintendo platform-fighter. Arcade UFO Weekly streaming Tekken 7 live from Austin, Texas

Arcade UFO has served as the stomping grounds for the Austin, TX FGC for a decade now. First formed in 2008, it has produced top players in a wide range of games and hosted events for SBO Qualifiers, Namco’s Tekken Tag 2 location tests, and more.

With a growing scene for Tekken 7 that has drawn top players from surrounding cities like San Antonio and Houston, Arcade UFO has now moved into regular streaming for its growing weeklies. Every Saturday at 8:30 PM CT/ 6:30 PM PT is Tekken, and you can watch right now:

Mikado Arcade’s Street Fighter Carnival 12 begins with World Heroes 2, Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix 2, and Fighting Layer tournaments

2018 may almost be over, but some of the hottest arcade action is just starting up over in Japan! World-famous Mikado Arcade has just started Street Fighter Carnival 12, a multi-game tournament series designed to promote high-level gameplay in a wide variety of legacy FGC titles.

Opening up the festivities are World Heroes 2, Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix 2 (a personal favorite!), and the original Fighting Layer.

You can follow the action of SFC12 by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

BornFree interviews Tekken 7 threat Joey Fury at Red Bull Conquest 2018

BornFree continued his Red Bull Conquest 2018 interview series with a man that, at this point, is one of Tekken 7‘s most recognizable faces: recently signed Equinox pro Joseph “Joey Fury” Bennett.

Joey Fury’s reputation as a killer in Tekken 7 is well earned: from before the game was even out in the States, he was already defeating Saint and JDCR at Final Round 2017. At Red Bull Conquest he conquered legendary Tekken vet Mr. Naps; between this and the incredible positivism in his 40+ minute plus interview above, it’s hard to see Joey slipping from his consistently-high tournament placements anytime soon.

New punishment options and adjusted hitboxes make Tekken 7 Season 2 Eddy a little more well-rounded

Polarized “gimmick” characters like Tekken 7‘s Eddy are difficult to balance for tournament play, and often end up being too weak due to their overt reliance on opponent unawareness. While Eddy saw tournament success in Season 1, Namco has nonetheless decided to bring Eddy a little bit closer to center with his changes in Season 2.

Eddy’s biggest changes come in the form of getting a new, much needed i14 punish in the form of B+24, a new safe mid power crush, a wall bounce on his valuable ff+3 power poke, and a nerf to his bizarre SS3+4 hitbox. A mixture of buffs and nerfs means its difficult to tell where Eddy will end up in the long run, but since his core crush game is in tack, it seems like he should be just fine.

Street Fighter V pro Neon talks Kolin, handling nerves, and more in new interview with BornFree

“I definitely played a drunk Fuudo at SCR and got destroyed.”

There aren’t too many Kolin players at the top of Street Fighter V: Arcade Editon‘s tournament scene. Just the fact that Neon shows up with her at all makes him stand out — being able to beat Dogura in a tournament and go toe-to-toe with the likes of Phenom is just icing on the cake.

In his latest sit down interview with BornFree, Neon shares the (difficult) history of his character selection as Street Fighter V has developed, his training regimen, and why he fell in love with fighting games. Oh, and he also talks about the power of drinking in a tournament.

STL1119 demonstrates how Akuma’s wall bounce in Tekken 7 sets up ridiculous wall re-splats

Famed combo maker STL1119 has pushed Akuma’s wall bounce to strange and exciting places in his latest Tekken 7 combo video. It probably shouldn’t be a surprise — Akuma’s entire gimmick is that he can spend meter to get unique 2D-inspired combo extensions — but his ability to manipulate extensions post wall bounce are staggering.

While some of  STL1119‘s typical combo calling cards are there — I think this video might have the longest run-under reverse corner carry I’ve seen in Tekken to date — it’s Akuma’s ability to keep the enemy high on the wall, or constantly re-splat, that seals the show.
