Just Frame speaks on the importance of the story in a fighting game

Before any of us fighting gamers were concerned about frame data, match-ups, or which characters were high-tier, there’s a good chance that the story behind a fighting game and its characters is what sparked our love of the genre. For this reason, it’s no wonder that many fighting game franchises feature a continuing story complete with intricate character details, updated with each installment and spanning back to every game’s first release.

Just Frame talks about the importance of the story in a fighting game, in his latest Tekken-related video. Like many members of the FGC, he understands that many players come for the high-level gameplay a title offers — but they stay for characters that have earned a special place in their hearts over the years. Expressing what can be described as tough love, he speaks on his disappointment in Tekken 7‘s story mode and why it matters to him, even though he continues to play it competitively.

While you may not agree with his opinions on Tekken 7 specifically, check out Just Frame’s thoughts on the significance of the fighter’s story below, and see if it resonates with you.

Nissin Cup Noodles is now sponsoring monthly Dissidia Final Fantasy: NT livestreams

If you were watching the Dissidia Final Fantasy: NT tournament at the 2017 SoCal Regionals this past weekend, you probably caught a glimpse of some Nissin Cup Noodle product-placement on stage. Though cup noodles and Final Fantasy may seem like an awkward juxtaposition of Japanese exports, it has been announced that Dissidia Final Fantasy: NT developers and Nissin Cup Noodles have officially forged a partnership.

What was witnessed at SoCal Regionals was a segment now known as 3-MINUTE WARM-UP, where commentators prepare a cup of noodles and answer Dissidia-related questions via a livestream — while they wait for their instant meal to finish cooking. Part of the announcement of this partnership is the news that these Dissidia streams are sponsored by Nissin Cup Noodles, and will be a monthly thing, with the next one taking place at this year’s New York Comic Con happening in October.

This partnership comes as less of a surprise to Final Fantasy fans already familiar with the appearances Nissin’s brand has made in Final Fantasy XV — there is even a special line of Final Fantasy noodles.

Watch Geese get unleashed in this Geese Howard combo video for The King of Fighters XIV

The only thing that rivals the hype of Geese Howard’s appearance in Tekken 7 is his initial return to fighting games in The King of Fighters XIV. Here to remind us that the kingpin of South Town is back and here to stay is Persona Entertainment with another impressive combo video.

Though Geese is known for his unique defensive moves, he leaves little to be desired on the offensive end. He’s got combos that push the opponent from wall to wall and, like a select few KOFXIV cast members, can retrieve them from the ground for a super or Climax finish. Another fearful aspect displayed in the video is the use of the air Reppu Ken to start and extend combos, which is  as entertaining as it is damaging.

Check out the combo video below and click here for more from Persona Entertainment.
