A VR version of Street Fighter II’s bonus stage will be playable at Red Bull Battle Grounds

Need to blow off some steam after crashing out of Red Bull Battle Grounds‘ Last Chance Qualifier? In partnership with HTC Vive, there will be a special VR demo at the tournament which has attendees playing through the famous car-wrecking bonus stage from Street Fighter II.

Attendees who try on this VR experience will get entered into a special Red Bull sweepstakes, where you can win either a custom-made Street Fighter V arcade cabinet in the shape of a Red Bull can, or a HTC Vive. You get up to three entries in this competition, so make sure to swing by the VR booth if you want a chance to win.

Cooperation Cup returns for its 16th installment on January 7th

Third Strike players, gather your friends as Cooperation Cup is back for 2018. Coming to the Asakusabashi Hulic Hall — the venue for Japan Cup 2017 — in Tokyo, this legendary event has the world’s best Third Strike players joining forces to beat each other in 5v5 team battles.

As with previous years, there will the preparatory Pre-Cooperation Cup tournament on January 6th, where players usually fight as same character teams before the main event on January 7th. Cooperation Cup 15 was spectacular, with Genki’s Alex winning the whole tournament for Team Z Senshi.

With Third Strike royalty like MOV, Onuki, Haitani, RX, K.O and Kokujin usually in attendance at Cooperation Cup, it’s mandatory viewing for any Street Fighter fan. Like last year, all the action will be streamed via the GameNewton Twitch channel — expect any news of an English stream nearer the time.

The same apply for Ken’s medium and heavy Tatsu — just wait for them to finish and then let rip with a medium-strength punish. The dreaded EX Air Tatsu is safe on block, but select characters can anti-air Ken before he sticks his flaming foot in you.

“I’m coming for you Tokido” — BornFree talks to Punk about Capcom Cup, SFV:AE, and taking down his demon

One of the favorites going into this year’s Capcom Cup, Victor “Punk” Woodley is looking to redeem himself after his second-place finish at Evo 2017. Sitting down with BornFree at Canada Cup, Punk discussed how much his life has changed over the past year, his hopes for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, and his desire to take his demon — Tokido — down.

The main thing Punk wants from Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is for Capcom to take some of the “nuttier” aspects of Season 2 out of the game. This means getting rid of throw loops, toning Balrog down, and most importantly, giving Karin some well-needed buffs. Based on what Capcom are doing with Zeku, Punk seems optimistic — but he just hopes that the new V-Triggers will unlock greater combo potential for everyone in Street Fighter V‘s roster.

If anything, Punk would like to see the return of Street Fighter IV‘s one-frame links, just to make combos an actual challenge to master.

The player selection process has begun for the first ever Smash 4 Boot Camp

Just as Smash Summit 5 has wrapped up for Melee, Smash 4 is getting its first ever Summit-style invitational, courtesy of VGBootCamp. Named “Smash 4 Boot Camp,” this four-day event will see 10 invited players squaring off against six players, voted in by the greater Smash 4 community.

Player opt-ins opened earlier this week, with that section of the selection process ending today at 2:00 PM PT. From there it goes to Twitter nominations, where the public must vote for the players they want to see in the next round. This stage lasts until November 13th, with the top 16 advancing to the final phase — the dreaded elimination stage.

From November 13th to 16th, the top two players will be voted into the Boot Camp, with the bottom two being eliminated from the contest. Just like Smash Summit, expect players humiliating themselves and pandering to the public on social media to get those precious, precious votes. Prepare yourself for Capcom Cup 2017 with this special edition of Wake Up Wednesdays

The big event just over a month away, so Capcom is gearing up for Capcom Cup 2017. Spilling the beans about the format for this year’s event, as well as explaining how people can register for the Last Chance Qualifier, Capcom’s Michael Martin has released a special Capcom Cup-themed episode of Wake Up Wednesdays.

First off, the first two days of Capcom Cup 2017 will be held at the Anaheim Hilton, right next to the Anaheim Convention Center where PlayStation Experience is taking place. Both Capcom Cup 2017 and Battle for the Stones will be running at the same time in the Anaheim Hilton, so there is plenty for you to watch if you’re attending as a spectator.

If you are coming for the Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier, you must register via smash.gg as quickly as possible! Registration costs $20 and is capped at 256 players — so register now to avoid disappointment. Online registration ends on November 29th but there is still hope if you miss the deadline. There will be on-site registration for the LCQ on December 7th, but it costs $40. Also note that all on-site entrants will be placed in a single “pool of death”, so beware of shark-infested waters should you register late.

Top 32 for Capcom Cup will take place on December 9th and then Top 8 will be hosted in the Anaheim Convention Center on December 10th, closing out PlayStation Experience with a bang. As for format, Capcom Cup 2017 will use the traditional bracket format, with players being seeded based on Capcom Pro Tour points. There had been some discussion both early in the Pro Tour and online about a group format but no, this year’s event will stick to the usual straight double-elimination bracket.

HORI is releasing a special Dragon Ball FighterZ-themed RAP Pro.N fight stick

If you’re a Dragon Ball fan looking for a new stick to celebrate the launch of Dragon Ball FighterZ, HORI has you covered. Spotted on Amazon Japan, the hardware manufacturer is releasing a version of their Real Arcade Pro.N Fight Stick, complete with special DBFZ artwork. The artwork is actually taken from Super Saiyan Blue Goku’s Level 3, where he finishes off a Kaioken x 20 God Kamehameha with a planet-shattering uppercut.

The stick itself is identical to your standard RAP Pro.N in terms of form factor and function — it’s just sporting the fancy Goku artwork. You can pre-order the stick off Amazon Japan right now, with it retailing for ¥20,498 (approx $180) and releasing on February 1st. Here are the dates for the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite “Battle for the Stones” Online Qualifiers

With the Stone events all wrapped up for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s Battle for the Stones circuit, all that remains are the final three Online Qualifiers — ahead of the main event at PlayStation Experience this December. The winner of each event will be granted a spot in the final 16 player bracket, and matched up against a Stone bearer or a former Evo champion.

The dates of the three Online Qualifiers are as follows:

  • Europe – November 18th
  • Latin America – November 25th
  • North America – December 2nd

Expect information on registration and Online Qualifier rules during this week’s episode of Wakeup Wednesdays, direct from Capcom USA.
