Challenge opponents to (virtual) money matches with Rivals of Aether’s 1.2.2 update

Beefing with some random player you found in Exhibition Match? Well, Rivals of Aether‘s 1.2.2 update now allows players to place wagers on matches, so you can bet your hard-earned Aether coins on bodying that scrubby Zetterburn who keeps taunting after every stock.

During a friendly or exhibition match, you can challenge your opponent to throw down anywhere between 100 to 9,999 Aether coins on a set. These money match sets can be anything between a best-of-one to a best-of-nine, so please gamble your fake money responsibly.

As for the rest of the patch, its main goal is to nerf some of the stronger aspects of new characters Ranno and Clairen. Ranno’s hitboxes stayed out for a little too long and his knockback was a bit too much, so most of his aerials and the active hitbox on his tongue have received a touch-up. For Clairen, she received damage reductions on some of her non-tipper attacks, landing lag increases on choice aerials as well as reducing the active frames on moves like jab, down tilt and forward smash. She has received one mini-buff — Clairen can now cancel her aerial side-special with a double jump.

For all the full patch breakdown, check out the official Rivals of Aether website.

Final Fantasy IV villain Golbez joins the roster for Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade

Revealed during one of Square Enix’s regular Dissidia livestreams, the dark wizard Golbez has been announced as the latest character to join the Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade roster.

Golbez is a powerful spellcaster who excels at keeping opponents out with his various magic attacks. While many of Golbez’ spells are slow-moving energy orbs, his impressive speed allows him to pepper the screen with these projectiles and trap his opponent in a corner. In a change from his Dissidia 012 incarnation, Golbez’ Shadow Dragon fights alongside him at all times, even assisting the wizard during certain attacks.

Golbez will be added to the arcade version of Dissidia later this month, so expect the dark moon mage to be present in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT when it launches January 30th. Square Enix are also adding a new stage as part of this arcade update — the Stellar Fulcrum from Final Fantasy XI.

Expect more character announcements and news during Square Enix’s special 2nd anniversary livestream for Dissidia, happening on November 26th.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will only include new V-Triggers at launch

Despite leaks insisting otherwise, the launch version of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will not introduce new V-Skills, V-Reversals, or Critical Arts — only new V-Triggers.

This information comes via the Japanese-exclusive “Valuable Edition” of SFVAE, which comes bundled with a set of keychains, an artbook — and most importantly, artcards which list the movesets for each character in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Only one moveset is clearly visible in the promotional images for the Valuable Edition, and that is for the muscular motorhead Abigail.

According to HiFight, Abigail’s second V-Trigger is called “Hybrid Charge” and it gives him access to a new move called “Metro Flash.” Based on this description, I imagine Metro Flash works similarly to Zeku’s Idaten command dash, being a move which is only accessible when Abigail is in V-Trigger.

Collectors can pre-order the Valuable Edition of SFVAE over on the e-capcom store. Expect more information on potential V-System changes during PlayStation Experience this December, where Capcom will no doubt reveal more on both Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and its upcoming third season.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has shipped 900,000 units worldwide, with Capcom hoping to ship 2 million units by March 2018

As part of Capcom’s second financial presentation for 2017, the company has reported that it has shipped 900,000 units of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite worldwide while Street Fighter V has now shipped a total of 1.9 million units — just shy of Capcom’s initial 2 million target which it hoped to reach back in March 2016.

When you consider that MvC:I is not as well-known as Street Fighter, the huge amount of negative press surrounding the title and its smaller budget compared to Street Fighter V, 900,00 shipped units is by no means a complete disaster. Sales have slowed to a crawl following its initial two weeks of release though, so I doubt it will reach its 2 million shipped units target by March 2018.

As for Street Fighter V, it has now shipped as many units as Super Street Fighter IV — with the release of Arcade Edition this coming January hoping to push that figure even higher. I suppose reaching your initial sales target almost two years after launch is better than not reaching it at all. Ultra Street Fighter II however, has done better than forecast, with Capcom shipping 500,000 units worldwide. Capcom refused to comment on whether Switch-exclusive games are in the works, instead stating that the console is “important as one outlet for multi-platform games.” Fingers crossed for MvC:I on the Switch then.

You can find all the hard facts and figures via Capcom’s official website. There are no juicy details hidden within the presentation though, besides Capcom’s continued devotion to esports via the Capcom Pro Tour.

Injustice 2’s PC beta is available on Steam until November 10th

Suit up, you PC DC heroes: NetherRealm Studios have finally launched the online beta for Injustice 2‘s PC version. This beta runs from today (November 6th) to November 10th, and is open to anyone with a Steam account. As the beta is to test the PC network infrastructure and netcode, you can only play 1v1 matches during the beta’s run.

All stages and characters (up to Raiden) are available to play, so make sure to test out as many characters as possible during the beta. If you do experience any glitches or connection problems, make sure to leave your feedback via the Discussions page on Steam.

No news on when the eventual PC port of Injustice 2 is coming out, but based on what happened with Mortal Kombat XL, I would guess it will launch alongside the final character of Fighter Pack 3.

2GGC: MKLeo Saga results

Acting as the final Smash 4 Saga before the 2GG Championship next month, 2GGC: MKLeo Saga acted as the last chance for someone to break the Saga Curse and end its 19-0 winning streak. While there were upsets throughout the bracket, the Saga Curse still reigns supreme, with FOX|MVG|MKLeo reaching third place overall. As for the champion, it was the turn of P1|Tweek, who gained his first ever S-Tier tournament win and secured his place in the 2GG Championship Finals. His victory takes him to second place on the 2GGC Leaderboard, finally displacing Dabuz and shifting him down to the third place spot.

There were shockers abound for this event, with world number one TSM|ZeRo being knocked out before Top 8, losing to EMP|WaDi and then to bc|Mr. R in one of the tensest sets of the year. Elsewhere, Japan number one KEN conquered one of the toughest Losers’ brackets in Smash 4 history, defeating the likes of Lima, Dabuz, RNG|Nairo, MKLeo, MSF|Larry Lurr, BSD|Elegant, Raito and T on his way to Grand Finals. While he did take revenge for his initial loss against Lima in pools, Tweek’s Bayonetta was just too strong for KEN — defeating him 3-1 in Grand Finals. KEN did managed to avenge his loss to MKLeo at Umebura Japan Major earlier this year though, by knocking Leo out of his own Saga. The spirits of Smash 4 work in mysterious ways.

Now all that remains is the 2GG Championship, and the standings are looking mighty interesting following MKLeo Saga. Despite his 13th place finish, ZeRo still remains in pole position going into the final bracket. Meanwhile, the bottom of the leaderboard is mighty crowded, with both WaDi and Mr. R sitting in 19th place. Due to WaDi’s highest placing during the entire circuit being fifth while Mr. R’s is seventh, WaDi takes the final spot to be allocated via points. There is still a chance for Mr. R to get into the final 20 via the Last Chance Qualifier but with other contenders like EMG|Mistake, Locus, IMT|ANTi, Marss, Elegant, Tsu and many others jockeying for the last spot, victory is by no means assured.

You can check the final 2GGC standings over on its official smash.gg page. The 2GG Championship will start on December 1st with the Last Chance Qualifier, followed by the Group Stage on December 2nd and Championship Sunday on December 3rd.

RESULTS:

1. P1|Tweek (Cloud, Bayonetta, DK/USA)
2. KEN (Sonic/Japan)
3. FOX|MVG|MKLeo (Cloud, Meta-Knight/Mexico)
4. NRG|Nairo (Zero Suit Samus/USA)
5. Dabuz (Rosalina and Luma/USA)
5. EMP|WaDi (Mewtwo/USA)
7. LG|Abadango (Mewtwo, Bayonetta/Japan)
7. Lima (Bayonetta/USA)

VesperArcade examines who is in and who is out of the running for Capcom Cup 2017

With the Capcom Pro Tour winding down and Capcom Cup 2017 just over a month away, now is the time to take stock and check who is going to be in that final 32-person bracket. We already have our own Capcom Cup analysis series for those players who have secured their spot, but how about those who didn’t make the cut?

Seeing as there are only the Latin American and North American Regional Finals left to go and most of the bracket is locked in, VesperArcade has decided to go through the list and highlight those players who just missed out making the final 32. There are some definite shockers in there — Gamerbee, Infiltration, Xiao Hai, Nemo and MOV have not made it in — while players like 801Strider and Xiaobao had their fates sealed at Canada Cup last weekend.

There is still hope for those who have yet to qualify. 31 spots in the final bracket are decided by points, while the 32nd place is reserved for the winner of the Last Chance Qualifier, held the day before Capcom Cup. This qualifier is open to anyone, so it does act as the final gamble for anyone who has yet to secure a spot. Some US players like FChamp and K-Brad who are hovering in the mid 30s can possibly make it in through the NA Regional Finals as well, so all hope is not lost.

Arc System Works to set up a North American branch

Arc System Works is having a hell of a year. With the maelstrom of hype surrounding both Dragon Ball FighterZ and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, along with the growing popularity of both BlazBlue and Guilty Gear in the West, it was only a matter of time before the Japanese development studio set up a branch office for Western markets.

Announced by CEO Minoru Kidooka earlier today, Arc System Works is set to open a North American branch in Torrance, California which will focus on “expand[ing] its operations and offerings to fans in the region.” Kidooka states that this new operation should “open the channels of communication between fan and developer, ensuring your voices are heard and most importantly applied.” Based on the wording of that statement, this could imply that Arc System Works will be handling things like localization and marketing in-house, rather than using partners like Aksys or PQube.

It seems very early days for this new operation at the moment — the initial statement has actually been removed from the Arc System Works website — but it looks promising for Western fans of ASW games. I suggest directing your calls for English dubs of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear to this new office, when it eventually opens.

Infiltration joins Team GRAPHT as their latest FGC signing

Further growing its roster of FGC heavyweights, Japanese esports organization GRAPHT has signed Infiltration as their latest player. He joins players like MOV, Gllty, Haitani, Yukadon, and fellow Razer alumnus Fuudo as part of GRAPHT’s burgeoning fighting game division.

Infiltration has had a rough time of it during Street Fighter V‘s second season, failing to hit the heights that he saw during Season 1. While he has mounted a small comeback during the latter half of this year’s Capcom Pro Tour — winning Manila Cup and placing in top 8 for both Celtic Throwdown and OzHadou Nationals — he is currently out of the running for Capcom Cup 2017.

There is still a chance for Infiltration to make it into Capcom Cup via the Last Chance Qualifier in Anaheim, but it is unknown at this time if GRAPHT will be flying him out alongside Haitani, Fuudo, and Yukadon for that final roll of the dice.
