Here are the bug fixes for Street Fighter V’s November 2nd patch

In a bit of a surprise from Capcom, they have released a quick update for Street Fighter V, hoping to fix two notable bugs for Menat and Ibuki. Players should no longer lose their charge after Ibuki uses her standard throw, and Menat should no longer gain V-Gauge if she connects a counter hit standing MP.

As well as fixing these two bugs, Capcom has told players that their next round of bug fixes will focus around Zeku. The promised changes are as follows:

  • When Young Zeku is in the initial startup for each of his jumps, as he would lose his collision boxes, the opponent would pass through him. This issue is currently scheduled to be fixed in the next update.
  • The total frames for Young Zeku’s back recovery is 5F longer than the other characters. This issue is currently scheduled to be fixed in the next update.
  • The hurtbox for when Old/Young Zeku turns around while crouching will be fixed to be roughly the same as the other characters.

Capcom haven’t given an ETA on the next round of fixes, but I imagine we’ll see them within the next two weeks.

Recent Dragon Ball FighterZ livestream reveals how the Dragon Balls work in battle

Continuing a recent surge of information for Dragon Ball FighterZ, a special Bandai Namco livestream this morning has revealed a whole lot more about the highly anticipated fighter. From match footage of Tien, Ginyu, Nappa and Yamcha, more information on Story Mode and a demonstration of how the Dragon Balls work mid-match, this livesteam is a must watch for Dragon Ball fans.

First off, we’ve finally got live footage of Ginyu’s Body Change Super in action. Similar to Android 16’s Self Destruct, it has quite the long start-up time, with Ginyu being invincible while he powers up the projectile. Once charged up, he lets out a short range beam which can be blocked by the enemy. The main downside of the Body Change is that the person controlling Ginyu cannot use any of his Ginyu Force specials or use another Body Change to take back their original character. We also got a glimpse at more of the Ginyu Force assists and yes, Jeice and Burter can combine to perform their signature Purple Comet Hurricane attack.

The stream also confirmed that Chiaotzu’s Self Destruct is a second Level 3 for Tien, alongside his Shin Kikoho. If you manage to land the Self Destruct, Chiaotzu cannot be summoned for the rest of the match, so be careful about using this suicide attack.

The other main (and unintended) thing shown on this stream was how the mysterious Dragon Ball mechanic works in battle. Once a player collects the seventh Dragon Ball, Shenron will be summoned and the chosen player is able to pick between four different wishes. According to translations from HiFight and ShonenGamez, the four wishes are:

  • Refill your current character’s health bar (the blue selection)
  • Revive your downed teammates (the yellow selection)
  • Increased blue health regeneration or “immortality” (the green selection)
  • A free Sparkling Blast activation or “ultimate power” (the red selection)

While it’s good to finally know what the Dragon Balls do, the next logical question is whether players can turn the Dragon Balls off for tournament play. Much like Injustice 2‘s Gear, the Dragon Balls look like a fun casual mechanic, but something that will ruin the experience for those wanting competitive matches. Based on Arc System Works’ pedigree, you should be able to, but official confirmation from Bandai Namco would be perfect.

Bandai Namco did release a new trailer following the stream’s conclusion, showing off new footage of DBFZ’s Story Mode. The Story Mode clips clearly sets up Android 21 as the game’s antagonist, as well as giving players a sneak peek at the villain side scenario. Based on the new shots of Android 21, it seems more and more likely that she will be a playable character in the full release.

You can check out the full stream below, with the Dragon Ball FighterZ section starting at 1:05:33. Producer Tomoko Hiroki makes a special appearance, along with Street Fighter legend Nuki coming to help demo the game.

A PlayStation information page for Dragon Ball FighterZ has Bulma listed as a playable character

Just as we’ve got footage of Captain Ginyu and Nappa in Dragon Ball FighterZ, PlayStation may have accidentally leaked an unannounced fighter. According to an information page for Dragon Ball FighterZ on the PlayStation website, Bulma is listed alongside Freiza, Vegeta and Goku as a playable character.

Before you get your hopes up, there is one big red flag which is Buu’s name being spelled incorrectly on this information page. Unless the Boos from Super Mario were announced as guest characters while no-one was looking, Bulma’s inclusion could be another mistake/typo. However, it’s not like we haven’t seen Bulma within Dragon Ball FighterZ.

DBFZ Bulma Leak

She has featured heavily within trailers and screenshots for Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Story Mode, meaning that Arc System Works clearly have a Bulma model on hand. When you also consider the lack of female fighters on the current roster and ASW’s penchant for including unexpected characters in character rosters, Bulma seems to tick both of those boxes.

If she is playable, I imagine Bulma would fight inside a giant Capsule Corp mech suit, complete with different weapons and support Capsules to help her teammates. She did appear as an assist character in Extreme Butoden, where she would throw Capsules with random effects to help the player out. Arc System Works already have experience with a character with random projectiles in Guilty Gear‘s Faust, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Plus, this isn’t the first DBFZ leak to come from a third party. All the information regarding Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Season Pass was leaked on the Xbox storefront, ahead of the official announcement by Bandai Namco. In any case, we’ll probably get the next set of DBFZ character reveals within next month’s copy of V-Jump, so hold tight until then.

IGN’s Next Big Game shows off extended Dragon Ball FighterZ footage, featuring Nappa and Ginyu

While many were hoping that IGN’s Next Big Game would show off two brand new characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ; it turns out that it’s just Ginyu and Nappa. In this episode of Next Big Game, IGN has given players a better look at the leader of the Ginyu Force, Vegeta’s old partner, as well as Crane School disciple Tien.

Similar to Gargos in Killer Instinct, Nappa’s Saibamen act independently once they are summoned, with the initial input determining the type of Saibaman that comes onto the field. In the video, we see Nappa use the heavy version of the Saibaman summon, which does a high hitting jump slash, a projectile acid spit and a low hitting slide before disappearing off screen. Based on the footage, the Saibaman either continues attacking until it gets hit by the opponent, or is disappears once it finishes doing a certain number of attacks.

As for Ginyu, he doesn’t have many attacks of his own — most of his damage comes from calling in his henchmen to attack. According to producer Tomoko Hiroki, you can change the attack of each member of the Ginyu Force based on your input — leading to the possibility that each Ginyu Force member (Recoome, Jeice, Guldo, and Burter) is assigned to a specific attack button (light, medium, heavy, and Ki Blast). For example, a quarter circle forward and heavy may result in Recoome’s Ultimate Fighting Bomber, while a quarter circle back will have him perform a Recoome Kick. Ginyu’s Body Change Technique has also been confirmed to only change characters and health bars, so no stealing your opponent’s meter for a crazy comeback.

At the very end of the video feature, we also got a glimpse of a new move for Tien and yes, you can indeed summon Chiaotzu and make the poor little guy self-destruct. You can see the footage over on the Next Big Game Facebook page, and expect more Dragon Ball FighterZ news during November.

Strike a pose with Captain Ginyu’s introductory trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ

Following Nappa’s reveal trailer in the middle of last week, Bandai Namco have finally released Captain Ginyu’s reveal trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ, complete with flamboyant poses and Body Change shenanigans. The short introduction confirms that Ginyu’s Milky Cannon will be his Level 1 Super, along with showing off new assists for Guldo, Recoome and Burter.

Burter can fly in and unleash a series of Mach Kicks, Recoome can deliver a powerful knee strike with his Recoome Kick and Guldo can use his Psycho Javelin. From previous screenshots, we know Recoome and Guldo have two unique assists, while Jeice and Burter only have one. Hopefully, Jeice and Burter can combine together to do their signature Purple Comet Hurricane.

IGN is set to reveal two new Dragon Ball FighterZ characters later this week, so keep your scouters locked for more DBFZ info. With much of DBFZ’s roster being based on Arc System Works’ previous Dragon Ball fighter — Extreme Butoden — many reckon that Kid Buu and Gotenks will be next up.

USGamer chats to the original cast of Mortal Kombat, 25 years after the series’ launch

While much has been written about Mortal Kombat‘s original development team, the actors playing the likes of Sonya Blade, Liu Kang and Scorpion have been left out of the limelight. Hoping to rectify this as Mortal Kombat celebrates its 25th anniversary, USGamer tracked down the original Mortal Kombat cast to find out how a group of friends from Chicago came to work on the industry-changing fighting game.

Working out of an athletics club in Chicago, the Mortal Kombat cast was a mix of fitness instructors, stunt coordinators and film extras based in the Windy City. According to Elizabeth Malecki, the original Sonya Blade, many of Mortal Kombat‘s special moves were dreamed up on set — with Scorpion’s famous “Get Over Here!” being ad-libbed by Shang Tsung actor Richard Divizio. Thinking up moves and fatalities were a collaborative effort, with actors getting inspiration from films like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Jason and the Argonauts.

The whole feature is worth a read, as it covers the cast’s reaction to Mortal Kombat’s runaway success, how they cast certain characters as well as their lives after Mortal Kombat. As a little fun fact, Sub-Zero’s costume was actually a size too small for actor Dan Pesina, meaning it had to be held together by pins during later parts of production.

The sea is a harsh mistress: Mazu the Sea Goddess joins the Fight of Gods roster on October 30th

If you’re getting bored of playing as Jesus, Buddha or Odin, Digital Crafter have you covered. As the first new character since the Early Access launch of Fight of Gods, the Chinese sea goddess Mazu looks to shake things up with her demon assists and magic lamp.

Mazu’s demons looks to be a right royal pain, appearing from weird angles and allows the sea goddess to start a juggle from half a screen away. She doesn’t look to have the greatest defence up close, so if you can weather the storm of demons and projectiles, you should be able to take Mazu down.

Digital Crafter are also looking for fan suggestions on future deities to join the Fight of Gods roster, so stop off on their Steam page and offer some ideas. Mazu will come as part of a free Fight of Gods update, launching on October 30th.

Hellboy comes to Injustice 2 on November 14th

Hell, it’s about time you showed up. Rounding out Fighter Pack 2, the half-demon Hellboy is joining the Injustice 2 roster next month. He will be available for Early Access players on November 14th, with everyone getting a chance to play the surly paranormal investigator later in the month.

Hellboy is a bit of an all-rounder based on the footage from his gameplay trailer — able to fight at a distance with his oversized revolver and holy relics, while being capable up-close thanks to his Right Hand of Doom. His trait has him tapping into the gauntlet’s power, giving him what looks like infinite armor for a short time. He can also use the sword Excalibur for certain strings, as well as a vial of holy water which proceeds a wave which travels along the bottom of the screen.

While he may not be the fastest fighter, Hellboy looks to be a threat at any range, with him being especially dangerous up close. There is one Fighter Pack left following Hellboy’s release, with one of the characters being confirmed as the shapeshifting Atom. All you Spawn fans, best keep your fingers crossed.

The Keef Crew’s latest Smash 4 parody asks: What happens if Bayonetta players took over the world?

A contentious character ever since her introduction back in February, almost every Smash 4 player has a strong opinion on Bayonetta. With players like MVG|Salem, P1|CaptainZack, and EMG|Mistake placing high at major events with the time-stopping witch, some doomsayers theorize that like Smash 4 will soon reach its own version of “20XX”: a time where everyone plays Bayonetta.

Running with this idea, the Smash 4-centric comedy channel The Keef Crew has envisioned this hellish future, where non-Bayonetta mains have been pushed to an Attack on Titan-esque final city, where they must make their final stand against this legion of Umbra Witches. With the likes of TSM|ZeRo and FOX|MVG|MKLeo still fighting the good fight against Bayonetta, we’ve (hopefully) got a long way off before this parody comes to life.

Ginyu Force Go! See Captain Ginyu and Nappa in action with these new Dragon Ball FighterZ screenshots

Following their reveal in V-Jump earlier this week, Bandai Namco have gone ahead and released some in-game screenshots from Dragon Ball FighterZ, showing Captain Ginyu and Nappa in action. The Ginyu screenshots give us an idea of how Jeice, Recoome and Guldo will function in battle — with Recoome firing off his Ultimate Fighting Bomber, Jeice throwing a Crusher Ball and Guldo freezing his opponent in place with telekinesis. Still no sign of Burter’s assist, but we do see him posing in what looks like Ginyu’s intro animation.

As for Nappa, we see him charging up his signature Exploding Wave (which looks like his Level 1 Super), along with his Level 3 Breaker Cannon. The screenshots hint at how the Saibamen will work in battle, with Nappa commanding them to attack in three different ways. One attack has a Saibaman doing a high-hitting jump slash, another has a Saibaman doing a sliding kick which hits from behind, while another has a Saibaman holding Nappa’s opponent in place. I imagine these three Saibaman attacks are linked to Light, Medium and Heavy, with the Saibaman grab being the Heavy variation. It looks like Nappa can move around while a Saibaman is on screen, similar to Android 18 summoning in her brother.
