Fight Stick Friday! HORI RAP4 Kai Colored Series Now in Stock at Arcade Shock

Limited-edition red, white, and blue variants of the HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai–now in stock and available.

HORI’s Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai is a robust and certainly popular fight stick–its relatively low cost makes it an easy go-to stick for new world warriors. As we previewed back in September, HORI now offers new “Colored Series” variants on the RAP4 Kai, available in red, white, and blue models, as you can see in the gallery below.

They feature HORI’s Hayabusa joystick and matte Hayabusa pushbuttons, and are compatible with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3–and PC via X-Input.

These are now in stock at Arcade Shock, available for $149.99 with same-day shipping. You can get one in time for a fellow fighter on your holiday gift list if you place an order before December 17th. Arcade Shock is also currently offering a flat shipping rate of $14.95 on fight sticks to continental U.S. addresses.

The big draw of the Colored Series is modding of course, since you get three new color schemes to work around! Arcade Shock themselves created this Street Fighter-themed mod using the blue RAP4 Kai and the Street Fighter “chibi” character pushbuttons:

He Is Power Made Flesh! Street Fighter V’s Akuma Will Show You How Weak You Truly Are

Finally getting a confirmed reveal at PlayStation Experience, pretty much everybody is excited to see this monster rip into the Street Fighter V roster. Here’s Capcom-Unity’s notes on what his V-Skill, V-Trigger, and Critical Arts will look like in this incarnation.

Check Out the Intense Street Fighter V Action from Capcom Cup 2016’s Finals

Capcom Cup was a spectacular display of Street Fighter V skill–and how monstrous a solid R. Mika vortex game can be. It was intense throughout, but the hype culminates in these matches between Liquid|NuckleDu, EG|Ricky Ortiz, and GGP|Kazunoko.

Empoleon Rides in on a Tidal Wave in This New Pokkén Tournament Character Trailer

This badass penguin looks ready and willing to dish out some hurt on the Pokémon unfortunate enough to get in its way. Now, we just need The Pokémon Company to bring these new fighters home to the Wii U, already!

The current big discussion in the world of Smash is over the legality of HitBox’s Smash Box controller. In response to the current debate, its creator, HitBox Dustin has released a video to clear up some common misconceptions about the Smash Box.

With the announcement of MvCI, Capcom may be following SNK’s lead and reviving some of its older franchises for the current generation. Let’s hope for current-gen Rival Schools, Power Stone and Project Justice!

meleeSuper Smash Bros. Melee May Be Coming to Nintendo Switch via the Virtual Console, According to Eurogamer Report

The other big bit of re-release-related rumor this week is that Super Smash Bros. Melee may be coming to the Nintendo Switch, thanks to its Virtual Console service. If all goes to plan and there aren’t too many changes, we’ll see the Switch as the future home for all Smash.

supergirl-injustice-2Injustice 2 Will Continue Injustice 1’s Story with Supergirl Playing a “Very Pivotal Role”

One of the most impressive story modes to grace the FGC came from Injustice: Gods Among Us, so it’s good to hear that there are big plans in the works for the sequel–and exciting that a brand new character will be taking centre stage. Here’s hoping it measures up, because it has big boots to fill.

Frame 2:
screenshot-447Get Ready for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite with These Old School Marvel Vs. Series Combo Videos

The Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite hype is sweeping over the FGC, but that shouldn’t mean that we forget the heritage of the series. There’s a reason that everyone is so excited, and this post shows off a whole lot of that reason.

AOne Games Announces Omen of Sorrow, a New Horror-Themed Fighting Game

It’s always exciting when someone new dips a toe into the FGC, and the announcement of Omen of Sorrow looks set to scratch a horror itch that has gone unsatisfied since the last Darkstalkers instalment. It’s early days yet, but there’s plenty to be excited about, and so we’ll just go ahead and get the hype engines turning. Quietly though, since this announcement has been rather overshadowed by a certain other piece of news…

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Revealed at PlayStation Experience, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Coming to PlayStation 4

This was the big one–after a week of rumors and leaks and speculation, the PlayStation Experience opening showcase finally made it official. It’ll be very interesting to see what shape this new game takes until its release sometime in 2017. Meanwhile, those that missed it before can now enjoy UMvC3 in all its glory on the PS4.

S.H.Figuarts Ryu & Chun-Li Street Fighter V Figures Are Available for Pre-Order, Arriving April 2017

Two new poseable Street Fighter V figures are on their way from Tamashii Nations.

Tamashii Nations is offering two new Street Fighter V figures built on the S.H.Figuarts body style–this one apparently developed particularly to provide the range of movement necessary to accomodate Street Fighter special move-based poses. Pre-orders are currently open for both Ryu and Chun-Li–scheduled for an April 2017 release. Retail price: ¥6,480 (around $55 USD), while some online dealers are offering slight pre-order discounts (see below).

Chun-Li’s figure is 5.7″ tall, and will include two swappable facial expressions, multiple hands, and a Hyakuretsukyaku leg effect. A mount for the Lightning Legs and a background sheet showing the Bustling Side Street stage are included.

Ryu will stand at 6″ tall. His figure also includes interchangeable hands, two faces, and Hadouken effect–also with a stand for the fireball, and a background sheet of Forgotten Waterfall stage.

Check your favorite online toy dealers to place your pre-orders; these figures are available through Lunar Toy Store (Ryu, Chun-Li) and AmiAmi (Ryu, Chun-Li), to name a couple.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Getting GameStop-Exclusive Physical Reissues for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One

Versus fans have a treat waiting for them in March next year.

It appears that in addition to the digital reissue of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PlayStation 4, physical copies of the game will soon be available: apparently as a GameStop-exclusive offer. Pre-orders have appeared on the US site, marked with the “only at GameStop” tag, with release dates of March 31, 2017–but those may only be placeholders at this point.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox 360 Hyper Combo Activation Lag Comparision

On the PlayStation 4, Hyper Combo activation causes a delay not present on the Xbox 360 version of the game.

For Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the Xbox 360 version has long been the tournament standard. Based on Crunchy Maggots’  testing in the video below, it looks like the new downloadable version for PlayStation 4 may experience some minor issues, similar to the PlayStation 3 version; between PS4 and Xbox 360, the PS4 version experiences a delay of about 4 frames at the activation flash of a Hyper Combo. Not a serious issue in many cases, but enough to throw off combo timing in some circumstances. As this is a essentially PlayStation-to-PlayStation port, it’s logical that this new version might share some hiccups with its direct predecessor.

Thanks to Adam for the tip.

Check Out the Intense Street Fighter V Action from Capcom Cup 2016’s Finals

Relive the hypest moments of Street Fighter V’s first season on the Capcom Pro Tour.

Capcom Cup 2016 was full of surprises. While many felt that Liquid|NuckleDu had a good chance of going the distance, it was not expected to see Evil Geniuses’ Ricki Ortiz rise up to challenge him in an all-American Winners–and Grand–Finals. Additionally, we got to see last year’s champion GGP|Kazunoko fight his way up to Losers Finals, only to meet a impenetrable wall of resistance in Ortiz as she dispatched him to face NuckleDu for her rematch. Check out the climax matches of Canada Cup 2016 in the videos below!

Of course, Capcom Fighters has many more match videos from Capcom Cup’s top 8 and more on their YouTube channel. You can see the full results for Capcom Cup here.

PlayStation Experience Footage Shows that Akuma Has a “Hidden” Costume in Street Fighter V

Akuma’s Nostalgia costume can be altered at the selection screen.

Looks like Street Fighter V “Nostalgia” premium costumes will share the input-code Easter eggs of the Swimsuit, Capcom Pro Tour, and Halloween lines, not to mention Urien; as seen at the PlayStation Experience, Akuma can shrug off the gi top of his classic costume and go shirtless with the application of a button code at selection.

sfv_akuma_easter_egg_costume_screencap

It is unconfirmed if the code is the same as for the other recent costume sets (LP+MP+HP+LK and hold UP on the joystick), or if it’s a different input, but as all costume codes are the same except for Urien’s (LP+MK+HK), it’s most likely the same as the others. You can see the modified outfit in-game in the footage below.

Akuma will join the Street Fighter V roster officially on December 20th, along with other new content.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Will Not Use Assists, Features “Freeform” Two-Character Combo System

This new game is intended to be more easily accessible to new players.

Details on the gameplay aspects of the freshly-revealed Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite are gradually starting to appear over the course of the weekend. We learned early on that the game would feature 2-on-2 teams instead of the 3-on-3 from the last two titles; Capcom Director of Production Mike Evans has spoken to Game Informer on this matter, and added that no assist characters will be joining your duo this time around. Instead, you choose two fighters and one Infinity Stone. The decision to streamline the character select process was made, apparently, to be less intimidating than prior games’ character/assist selection process, and appeal more readily to casual fans–but also to offer the Stone as an assist-substitute, preventing certain characters becoming more like “tools” by being selected solely for what they offer as an assist ability, as the design team has reportedly observed in prior titles.

The Inifinity Stone replaces the X-factor mechanic from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and the Stones will provide multiple buffs to your team throughout the match–but the exact means of activation and limitations are yet unclear. Experienced players balking at the words “casual” and “accessible” shouldn’t have to worry, though–efforts are being made to keep more advanced gameplay in the mix, particularly through the new ability to instantly switch your fighters at any time, including mid-combo, similar to MvC3’s team aerial combos–but more quickly–and on the ground as well. This mechanic should allow for a sort of “freeform” combo system–at least, that is the design goal.

Marvel Entertainment’s Creative Director Bill Roseman also spoke to Game Informer regarding the concerns that X-Men were off-limits due to licensing issues; he reassured that X-Men are not off the table outright–“That heritage is not lost,” according to Roseman.
