Captain America: Civil War’s Correct Voice and Sound Effects Restored (from the Marvel vs. Capcom Games)

Captain America: Civil War, the most recent Hollywood thrill-ride in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, definitely served up all the intrigue and exciting action sequences one would expect from the brand. But while you watched the film, did you get the impression something was a bit… off? Everything looked great, but something wasn’t quite right…

Watching the video below, the answer is suddenly clear: the voices and sound effects were all wrong! YouTuber Frob Man has brought this terrible oversight to light, and restored the film’s action scenes with the true sound effects and voices–that is, those of the Marvel vs. Capcom series!

Thanks to Rafael for the tip!

Keep Your Opponent on the Ropes with This R. Mika Corner Setup for Street Fighter V

In Street Fighter V, R. Mika has become known for her brutal vortex-like approach–the goal of getting the opponent in the corner and keeping them there with varied combos and mix-ups. Mika players will want to take note of this aerial overhead setup to keep laying that corner smack down; opponents, here’s another part of Mika’s game to watch out for!

As uploader Elchakotay Andrich has found, this overhead setup is only confirmed to work on the taller fighters M. Bison, Birdie, Vega, and F.A.N.G so far.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Added to Xbox One’s Backwards Compatibility List

Fans of Sega’s time-honored and highly technical fighting series Virtua Fighter: if you claim Xbox One as your console of choice, you can now enjoy Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown on your new system. The game has been added to the ever-growing list of backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games.

Other games added this week included Bound By Flame and The Maw. No playable version of VF5 has properly graced the PlayStation 4 yet: unless you count the game’s upcoming inclusion in Yakuza 6’s arcade.

Thanks to Corey for the tip!

Street Fighter V CFN Rankings Broken for Xian’s Birthday

It’s a happy birthday for Razer’s Xian–we knew his F.A.N.G was good, but 130473 LP good…?

xian_hacked_cfn_rank

Seems like one of Xian’s fans decided to give him a special birthday present–by putting his name at an unassailable #1 spot on the Capcom Fighters Network. RZR|Xian himself seems appreciative, or at least amused!

The synonymous PC modder discusses their efforts here. As of this writing, the displayed title has been changed from “F.A.N.G Master” to “2015 CAPCOM CUP Champion.” Place your bets now as to how long before Capcom corrects this little birthday gift!

Thanks to smartturtle for the tip! And a happy birthday to Xian from all of us at Shoryuken.com, too.

Evo Now Under New Parent Company, Expect Big News January 2017

Amidst the Evo Japan news being revealed at the Tokyo Game Show over the past few days, one important aspect of Evo’s future has come to light: going forward, Evo will be operating under a new parent corporation called Triple Perfect Inc. instead of SRKX Productions.

Joey Cuellar and Mark Julio are presently discussing and promoting Evo Japan at the Tokyo Game Show, and the target date of January 2018 has been announced for the first-ever event. A pre-Evo Japan event is planned for sometime in 2017, with details still to be announced in the future as they are finalized. As for Evo Japan itself, the plan is to bring the successful Evo formula from Las Vegas across to Japan–while noting that the Japanese FGC in particular will open up opportunities to feature games that are more popular in Japan as opposed to North America, such as the Virtua Fighter series–but attendees can expect similar vendors and BYOC areas, in addition to possible new novice training/play areas, and new cosplay events.

Mr. Wizard has also teased a big Evo secret that nobody knows yet, to be revealed in January when more Evolution 2017 information is released. It is also the hope to have Evo Japan’s final dates locked down by that time. As Evo continues to expand and engage the fighting game community in North America and Japan, the future of the event–on both sides of the Pacific–looks bright!

Watch Sakura Chase Her Idol Through the Street Fighter Series in This Video History

She started in Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a plucky schoolgirl with an incredible fascination with Ryu; starting by copying his moves (with her own modifications), her pursuit of her idol and eventual mentor has grown into a heartwarming and essential aspect of Street Fighter’s lore. Calling Sakura Kasugano a fan-favorite is a bit of an understatement: her earnest dedication to improving her fighting skill just makes you want to root for her!

sfa2_sakura_win

This new video from XusesGB charts her progress from the Street Fighter Alpha series into the super-kawaii Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Super Gem Fighter Mini-Mix (AKA Pocket Fighter) games, the Street Fighter EX series, the Marvel crossover games (and the notable appearance of “Dark Sakura” in such) and more, leading into her most recent playable appearances in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken. Oh–and we can’t forget her guest spot in Rival Schools: United by Fate!

Even more than Akuma, Sakura seems a shoo-in for Street Fighter V’s next DLC season, from her story mode appearances–and simply her long-standing rivalry with Karin Kanzuki. We can only wait and see…

Sakura, ganbaru!

Street Fighter V Story Mode “A Shadow Falls” 2 CD Soundtrack Now Available

In addition to fleshing out the plot of Street Fighter V and introducing us to new playable characters (and unique CPU opponents), the SFV General Story Mode “A Shadow Falls” features an excellent score by composer Hideyuki Fukasawa, absolutely packed with new music and battle themes. We’ve featured some of the extracted themes before, but now you can get your hands on all of it with Sony Music’s 2 CD soundtrack, available now for import from online retailers such as CD Japan, PLAY-ASIA and Amazon Japan.

sfv_general_story_ost_cover

Picking up this double CD package will run you ¥3000 to ¥3300 depending on your dealer of choice (approx. $40 USD). The soundtrack’s official release date was September 14, so if you happened to pre-order it may already be on its way to you! Check the retailers’ site for the full 139-track listing; unfortunately, it seems this soundtrack focuses only on the music from “A Shadow Falls” and does not include the character/stage themes that have been added in DLC since the original soundtrack release.

Daigo Umehara Awarded Two New Guinness World Records: Ultra Street Fighter IV Ranking and Most-Watched Match

Guinness World Records is honoring BST|Daigo Umehara once again, this time with two awards: one for holding the highest overall rank in Ultra Street Fighter IV–as based on his Lifetime Score of 2187714 in SRK’s own USF4 rankings–and another for the most-viewed video game match: naturally the famous “Evo Moment #37” from 2004.

In addition to his prior Guinness World Record from 2010 for highest pro-gaming earnings, this gives Umehara a “Triple Crown” of World Records to be proud of.

You can watch a bit of the award ceremony (in Japanese) on Twitch here. Shoryuken.com extends our congratulations to The Beast. おめでとうございます!
