Capcom Community and Esports Manager Matt “The Street Writer” Edwards is back to prepare us for the arrival of two new characters in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — today both Sagat and G are being added to the roster, completing the selection of Season 3 DLC fighters! So naturally Capcom is giving us a chance to learn a bit more about them before they drop tonight.
In this new video in the Character Introduction series, Edwards explains how G powers up his special moves through his G Charge, boosting G’s “Presidentiality” level and adding damage and additional hits to his attacks. Edwards then shows off a myriad of devastating combos possible through the use of G’s V-System, demonstrating how G turns momentum to his strong advantage throughout the fight.
Sagat brings his classic gameplay back, with some new twists.

Edwards starts with a brief recap of the Solitary King’s place in Street Fighter lore, then proceeds to show us some footage of how Sagat’s V-Skill and V-Triggers work, including showcasing some combos and juggles. He describes how Sagat’s ability to kara-cancel his kick attacks opens up new opportunities to combo into the iconic Tiger Uppercut (among other things!), and breaks down Sagat’s general gameplan for those considering trying out the King of Muay Thai: zoning and severe punishment of your opponent’s errors.
Following the mysterious #MessageToThePeople, Capcom has unveiled the latest new character to join the Street Fighter universe: the completely over-the-top “fighting president” G! Revealed alongside Sagat at Evo 2018 last night, both G and Sagat will be arriving in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition tonight!

A man of mystery has appeared calling himself the “President of the World.” First revealed in the cinematic opening at Capcom Cup 2017, G is a mysterious new character who wishes to unify the world as its president. He decides to spread his message in ways the modern world can understand: through social media. Initially, he doesn’t receive much attention until Rashid comes across his videos and decides to help amplify G’s message to the people. That being said, there’s much more to G than meets the eye…
As a new character, G has a unique move set that utilizes his role as the “President of the World” and his mysterious origins. During a fight, his Presidentiality level can be seen next to the V-Gauge in the form of an icon representing the Earth. By using G Charge, G absorbs power from the Earth to increase his Presidentiality level to 3. The higher his Presidentiality level is, the more powerful his special moves are. However, if G is knocked down, the Presidentiality level will go down.
G’s special moves and their properties during level 3 Presidentialilty are as follows:
G Smash Over: A quick lunging punch that sends a citizen of Earth flying Level 3 Presidentiality: Two hits that causes a wall bounce
G Smash Under: Quick lunging punch that hits low and causes knockdown Level 3 Presidentiality: Two hits that also cause knockdown
G Burst: A downward molten projectile Level 3 Presidentiality: The projectile now splashes upon hitting the ground, which sends magma at an upwards angle
G Spin Kick: G twists his body in the air and kicks the opponent at a downward angle Level 3 Presidentiality: Now gains projectile invincibility
G Impact: A command grab that launches citizens of Earth and can be followed up by several special moves. Level 3 Presidentiality: A multi-hit command grab that also launches opponents
Message to the People: G delivers a speech meant to unite all citizens of Earth. During this speech, G gains EX Gauge, but is left vulnerable to attacks.
Presidentiality has no effect on this glorious speech.
Using G Charge by itself leaves G vulnerable to attacks from citizens of Earth. However, G can cancel certain special moves into G Charge to safely increase his Presidentiality.
Capcom-Unity naturally provides a look into this new character’s V-System as well!
V-Skill: G Barrier
Calling upon the power of the Earth, G emits a barrier that can reflect projectiles, and launches on contact. It can be used on the ground or while airborne.
V-Trigger I: Maximum President
G’s Presidentiality level hits the maximum, powering up his special moves and granting them additional cancel properties. The G Barrier can also now be pushed out as a projectile attack. This is a three-bar V-Trigger.
V-Trigger II: Dangerous President
G’s arms become infused with molten magma! He gains access to the “G Explosion” special move and “G Rage” armored command grab. This is a two-bar V-Trigger.
Critical Art: Pangaea Burst
G shows his opponent the power of Gaia — by blasting them with a series of lava bursts.
G will have a Story costume and a Battle costume, of course — and the Story costume has set speculation raging since it was first glimpsed, thanks to its resemblance to another mysterious single-letter-named fighter…
And in fact, similarities between Q’s move animations and G’s (as seen in the reveal trailer) have already been spotted, making it seem almost certain that if G is not actually Q, he must have some close association. Hopefully we’ll learn more from G’s Character Story later today.

Alongside the reveal of G at Evo 2018 last night, Capcom delighted fans with the surprise showing of Sagat’s own reveal trailer as well — and then doubled-down with the news that both would be available today. Sagat players’ patience is at last rewarded! We’re also getting a new version of his classic stage, too: the King’s Court.
In the usual pre-release breakdown from Capcom-Unity, we get a closer look at what to expect from this new version of a character central to Street Fighter:
The king has returned to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition! Bow down before him or prove you are a worthy opponent. First appearing in the original Street Fighter as the final boss, Sagat has become one of the most recognizable characters in the entire series. As the emperor of Muay Thai, Sagat’s main goal in life was to be the strongest fighter in the world, which he believed he was until a certain martial artist named Ryu came along and defeated him. M. Bison witnessed Sagat’s power and offered him the services of Shadaloo in order to search for Ryu. Sagat accepted and became one of the feared “Four Heavenly Kings,” but when he realized M. Bison was attempting to corrupt Ryu, Sagat left as he wanted Ryu’s mind to be clear for their rematch. Since then, he has made it his life goal to defeat Ryu, but only if his rival doesn’t hold back. In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Sagat has become a hermit in a secluded village and must overcome his inner demons.
Sagat’s iconic move set remains true to his past appearances in the Street Fighter series. Tiger Shot is a projectile that changes speeds depending on which punch button you press and cannot hit crouching opponents. Grand Tiger Shot (Low Tiger Shot in previous titles) can hit crouching opponents, but deals less damage and is less safe. Tiger Uppercut is a dragon punch-style attack that can be used as an anti-air or a reversal. Tiger Knee Crush (Tiger Knee in previous titles) is a quick lunge that can close the distance between Sagat and his opponent.

V-Skill: Angry Charge
The “Angry Scar” returns, allowing you to power up the next Tiger Uppercut.
V-Trigger I: Tiger Charge
This three-bar Trigger lets Sagat use his Tiger Cannon by pressing HP+HK. This new version of the former Ultra Combo is big and fast, and can be cancelled into from any of Sagat’s normals.
V-Trigger II: Tiger Assault
It naturally follows that if VTI powers up the Tiger Shot, VTII would focus on the Tiger Knee. This two-bar VTII opens up two new moves, the Tiger Spike (HP+HK) and the Tiger Rush (forward + HP+HK). Tiger Spike is an armored kick that can Guard Break if fully charged; Tiger Rush is a Tiger Knee Crush variation that can be cancelled into from many normal moves.

Sagat will have three costumes available: the usual Story and Battle costumes, and a Nostalgia costumes for the original look.

After their spectacular reveals at Evo 2018 last night, both Sagat and G are arriving in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition today to finish off the Season 3 DLC roster. We’ll have to wait a little longer, as the SFV servers will be going offline today as per usual for any significant addition: expect server maintenance between 11:00 AM PT and 5:00 PM PT.

After switching their social media avatar to indicate a new character was incoming, Capcom has expanded their hype-building efforts for the upcoming reveal of G — the next Season 3 DLC fighter for Street Fighter V — via a mysterious campaign both on Twitter and on the floor of Evo 2018 itself.
Numerous FGC personalities have tweeted about receiving fragments of what appear to be some kind of manifesto. You can find them under the #MessageToThePeople hashtag:
To the people of Earth who yearn for unification Only you have discovered the knowledge I have bestowed upon you Presented with this knowledge, you will now understand my purpose One voice plus the seven continents to carry mankind All that divides us, I will Smash Over and Under to Burst The Impact of my dream will charge us with the power of Earth Every Charge you build will strengthen my voice Victory will be achieved once we become Pangaea once again One world where I will be your President
This certainly gives us a glimpse into the intentions of the mysterious “G”, and definitely seems to have some pretty heavy Illuminati leanings. Could G be a version of Gill after all? Is this the Secret Society’s first attempt to seize power of the world? Or is there something even stranger going on? We don’t have a clear idea of what Gill is specifically up to during Street Fighter V yet, so almost anything is possible. G could even be a predecessor in the Illuminati to Gill — or a member of the Secret Society that has parted ways with them to pursue his own philosophy.
The strange declaration may even hint at some aspects of G’s gameplay: “Smash Over and Under to Burst” is rather suspicious, and the multiple references to “charge” could be a clue. Either way, when “One voice plus the seven” come together tomorrow night at Mandalay Bay for Street Fighter V top 8, we can expect to learn some more about this unusual character.
There are a lot of games at Evo 2018, and as much as you might want to see them all, you’re going to have to make some choices. For those at home that will be swimming through the streams today, use the timetables below to plan your viewing pleasure. Just remember to stretch and get a bite to eat now and then, OK?

After a slight tease, we can now see the costume revealed in full — and unlike previous designs for Necalli and Guile from former champs, this one is essentially a tribute to the Champion himself, full of personal touches to transform Birdie into sort of a Mena-avatar, channeling the Champion into the game itself.
No date of availability has been confirmed yet, only that we’ll gain access to the costume “soon”. You can pick up the outfit as part of the Capcom Pro Tour 2018 Premier Pass, or on its own once it’s been released.
