Gundam Versus is now available both in the West and in Japan! Bandai Namco continues to showcase the mobile suits and pilots featured in the game; this time, they’re showing off the Strike, Blitz, Duel, and iconic Freedom Gundams, and their respective pilots — as well as the menacing Forbidden and Providence suits — from the Cosmic Era epic Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. They are all available to play right now in the team arena fighter, so check it out:

Revolution 2017 to feature playable Dissidia Final Fantasy NT & Dragon Ball FighterZ builds & presentations

Two more reasons to check out the massive UK fighting game event!

Revolution 2017 takes place this weekend in London, England on October 6-8; the anime-focused fighting game major has already been revealed as the first big tournament for Fight of Gods, and we’ve also mentioned its plans to feature special grudge matches in various titles. It was announced today that the event will also feature playable builds of two hot upcoming games from Bandai Namco and Square Enix, respectively: Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

  • First revealed at E3 2017, DRAGON BALL FighterZ has taken both the DRAGON BALL fandom and fighting game community by storm with its gorgeous graphical style and explosive take on 3vs3 team based battles. Developed by Arc System Works, one of the most celebrated developers of classic 2D fighting titles, it delivers an explosive, action-packed game that combines classic 2D fighting visuals with advanced 3D character models that look and feel as if they are ripped straight out of the DRAGON BALL anime series.
  • DRAGON BALL FighterZ will be available for free play all weekend, with a tournament arranged on Saturday the 7th of October.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

  • Currently taking Japanese arcades by storm, DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY NT is the latest version of the action-packed Final Fantasy crossover fighter — heading for PlayStation 4 in January next year.
  • Featured in the Revolution 2017 showcase area in the Rocket Bar at the London Metropolitan University, DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY NT will be available for free casual play all weekend, with a presentation about the game on the Friday.
  • DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY and DRAGON BALL FighterZ will also be featured on-stage the Revolution 2017 showcase area, hosted and streamed by Rice Digital.

BornFree explores why arcade mode is still important to a fighting game like Street Fighter V

What it provides players, and why it should be there.

After listing off his top ten changes he wants to see for a potential “Super Street Fighter V” upgrade, BornFree returns to revisit the topic of Arcade Mode — which was left unexplored in his prior video, despite being #4 on the wish list. In the video below, he discusses how important arcade mode is to a fighting title, both as a means of moving units and a way of recruiting new players (a “gateway drug”), regardless if current professional players see a need for it. He goes on to describe the emotional impact and practical benefits of having strong single-player content in a fighting game. Check it out:

BornFree has a slightly different outlook than I settled on when I wrote about this subject last year; though Capcom has not yet met my hopes for a creative –or even adequate — single-player substitute to arcade mode, either. It seems that SFV needs a good arcade mode now, more than ever.

Preview the Cinematic Battle music packs for Street Fighter V with this video from Xuses

Check out the music available before you drop that Fight Money!

This Tuesday saw the addition of a lot of costumes, the English Manor stage, and the new “music packs” to Street Fighter V. You can now purchase music packs to customize the background music on your stages, with only three available so far: two “Cinematic Battle” packs (with music from A Shadow Falls, the cinematic story mode) can be purchased for Fight Money, while there is also a premium Street Fighter II pack.

Rather than digging through the General Story itself to see if there are any themes worth making you part with your hard-earned Fight Money, Xuses offers this guide to the music included in the two packs, so you can preview it more easily. Check it out below.

X-Kira reveals leaked PlayStation 4 promo video that may detail upcoming Street Fighter V arcade mode layout

Does this video describe an upcoming match layout format to be used for a Street Fighter V arcade mode?

Well-known dataminer X-Kira recently uploaded a “mysterious video” that appears to describe the layout planned for an arcade mode in Street Fighter V. The layout — if true — shows an arrangement that includes the car crush and barrel minigames, and a hidden “true boss” that could be a super-powered version of Necalli, based on what little we see here.

X-Kira currently cites no specific source for the “leaked” video, but has been a reliable source of datamined information on SFV in the past. X-Kira promises further leak documentation “soon” in the video description.
