– Descent: Underground ? Devs Beware!

Descent: Underground signs a new publishing deal, and the project now has new life. Red Thomas explores the project’s history after a frank conversation with Eric Peterson. Nothing’s off limits as they talk about the ups and downs of crowd-funded development, and discuss what the new publishing deal means for the project.

– A Surprise, To Be Sure, But a Welcome One

EA has come out with two separate announcements detailing its revised progression plans for SWBF2, making many of these changes in direct response to all the criticism. To borrow a line from Senator Palpatine, the changes were, “A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.” I expected there to be some changes, but I didn’t expect EA to walk things back as much as it has.

– Assassin’s Creed Origins – The Rebirth of Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed is one of those franchises which started out strong but after a few games the shine began to tarnish. I’m not sure what state Origins was in when Ubisoft decided to give it extra time to iterate, but it was clearly time well spent. Origins is exactly what the series needed to make it new and wonderful again. It’s not perfect, but it sets a great roadmap for the future and the imperfections can be honed into something even more incredible.

– Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation – D&D Board Game Adaptation Done Right

Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation is more than a long-winded title. It is a video game adaptation of a board game adaptation of the increasingly popular, you guessed it, Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. As such, the video game has all the same pitfalls and restrictions of the board game without the hassle of setting and cleaning up the board and a lot more visual finesse.

– The 10 Most Wanted MMOs of 2018

I think it’s probably safe to say that the big releases for MMOs in 2017 have come and gone. Unless Blizzard shocks the world and magically puts out an expansion to WoW as a surprise Christmas gift, we’re already looking forward to 2018. So strap on your hype-belts, and board the hype-train, as it’s time to look forward to 2018 and hope it’s far, far better than 2017. This is our list of the 10 Most Wanted MMOs of 2018.

– Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Review ? An Important Game

Today marks the launch of three incredibly anticipated non-MMO games, but if there’s one I didn’t expect to be so thoroughly engrossing, it’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. In a day where publishers and press are bemoaning the decline of single player, MachineGames and Bethesda give us a surefire contender for game of the year. This is our Not So MMO – Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus review.

– Assassin?s Creed Origins Review in Progress

After only a few hours in Assassin’s Creed Origins I’m already loving this game. The combat is fun and engaging. The prologue is long but by the end of it I was sold on the story and I’m all in with the main character Bayek. The scenery and all the amazing vistas are beautiful. Though I’m still very early on, and there is still a long way to go, Origins has all the makings of becoming one of the best additions to the franchise in years.

– Every Game Will be an MMO (of sorts)

With consoles now catching up to PCs and MMOs hosted on every platform including mobile, players pay through microtransactions and DLC content. It is a proven income which works well finding that fine line between buying a single player game and forcing a subscription on players after they have left a game. It all adds up to the saying, every game will be online in the future.

– The HiRez Bugle: Hand of the Gods Comes to Consoles

This week’s HiRez Bugle is chock full of news for the independent Georgia developer’s games. Not only did Paladins see a patch with the new Champion Terminus, but SMITE also saw a bunch of new skins. The big news though is that the closed beta for Hand of the Gods is now officially open on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4!
