With the recent news of EA’s closing of Visceral Studios and move of the Star Wars project there to EA Vancouver, there’s been plenty of speculation on what the revamped game may look like. Since we’re probably not going to know either way for a while, I thought of a more important question: what kinds of Star Wars games would we like to see? The possibilities are almost endless, but I have a few picks in mind.
– Goken: Bringing Old School ARPG Game Play Back
Standing on the shoulders of giants like Secret of Mana and the Ys Series, Goken aims to bring back the features that made Action RPGs great in the first place. Unashamedly appealing to nostalgia right on their Steam page, the game is quite clear where its roots lie and what it wants to be. This is our Goken review.
– South Park The Fractured But Whole Review – A Super Heroic Fart Fest
For those not aware, “South Park” is an adult oriented cartoon TV series that’s in its 21st season on Comedy Central. It’s been over two years since a sequel was announced for the TV show’s first video game, 2014’s “South Park: The Stick Of Truth”. Since the announcement, UBISoft has been working closely with the show’s creators; Trey Parker, Matt Stone and their staff at South Park Studios to make what can only be described as the funniest turn-based super-hero, adventure RPG ever.

– Star Wars Battlefront II or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and the Love the Loot Box
Much digital ink has been spilled over the past week on the alarming state of loot boxes in general, but more specifically, for games like Star Wars: Battlefront II, for which EA has locked the entirety of the game’s progression behind the much-maligned feature. But are things as bad as they would appear? Not necessarily.
– Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a Classic JRPG for a New Era
Battle Chasers: Nightwar, from the studio founded for its creation (Airship Syndicate), is a love letter to 16-bit era JRPGs, but also a revival of one of studio founder Joe Madureira’s most personal works. Battle Chasers is a cult-classic fantasy comic, and now it’s bound to become a cult classic RPG. The recently released game sports gorgeous visuals, great voice acting, and strategic turn-based combat to make a compelling experience that’s worth any fan of the genre’s time.
– Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana Review
After nearly seven years, it’s finally time for another adventure with Adol and Dogi in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. Things begin in rather standard form with the two adventurers traveling towards their next destination, but the mood shifts suddenly when their vessel, The Lombardia, is attacked and sunk by a giant sea creature. Alone and stranded on the island, it’s up to Adol to reunite the crew of The Lombardia and escape the cursed island of Seiren before the situation becomes desperate.
– Raiders of the Broken Planet – An Exercise in the Hit & Miss
After spending the last week with the first Campaign, Alien Myths, I have to say that Raiders of the Broken Planet is definitely a unique experience offering some interesting and in some cases exciting takes on familiar mechanics. But does it offer a truly fun experience for a gamer? Grab that coffee and check out our review of MercurySteam’s 4v1 Story driven, shooter/brawler hybrid.
