Maximilian gives his breakdown of Monster Hunter in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

An exciting reveal from the Tokyo Game Show was the Monster Hunter from Capcom’s RPG action series. She seems to fit surprisingly well into the cast of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. So far, we’ve seen some footage of her in action, but with Japanese commentary. Maximilian has since produced an overview of the character, explaining what tools she’s using to score victories.

Monster Hunter fights using three weapons: a giant sword, two smaller swords, and a bow to cover herself at range. While those are used in a variety of attacks and special moves, she can also cancel into a backward roll and a forward roll. Her lunging attacks are very slow, but damaging. Furthermore, there’s super armor on some of them, but Monster Hunter still takes normal damage while executing the move.

The clip ends with some additional explanations in English and Japanese. For more footage, check out our posting of the TGS Monster Hunter matches and her reveal trailer. Quest complete!

Monster Hunter is coming sometime before the end of 2017 as DLC for MvC:I.

Gods clash as Daigo Umehara faces off against Onuki in Dragon Ball FighterZ at TGS this weekend

The Tokyo Game Show is a good place for companies to show off the gameplay of their in-development fighting games to the general public. What better way to do so, then to have a couple of fighting game legends duke it out at the event? This is exactly what’s going to happen this Sunday as Hx.Twitch.CYG BST|Daigo Umehara is set to go against Shinya Onuki in Dragon Ball FighterZ at TGS 2017.

Anyone familiar with competitive fighting game lore knows of the history between these two. Aside from being two of the so-called five Japanese fighting game gods, Daigo and Onuki started out as rivals back in the Street Fighter II days. Now, it seems that rivalry may be rekindled in a new game, Dragon Ball FighterZ, as both are set to face each other in an exhibition this Sunday.

For those interested, the exhibition will take place at 10:30 AM on Sunday (presumably JST, which means it will occur at 6:30 PM PDT on Saturday for North America), the last day of TGS. Keep an eye on BeasTV on Twitch for the stream of the exhibition.

DisplayLag tests Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for input delay

One of the biggest concerns with any new fighting game these days is the amount of input delay the game may have. Certain games, such as Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 have launched with — compared to older titles on previous platforms — massive amounts of delay. While this has been adjusted in the former of the two, there’s still the fear of any new game having input latency, especially since it seems delay levels have gone up across the board these days.

With this in mind, DisplayLag has produced a video showing off their testing of Capcom’s recently-released Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The good news is that the game isn’t plagued by the input delay that Street Fighter V had at launch; the average amount of delay that MvC:I has on PlayStation 4 is a manageable 6 frames of delay. This is seemingly in line with other modern fighting games, as both Injustice 2 and The King of Fighters XIV also have around the same amount of input delay, and is still lower than Tekken 7. More importantly, this is lower than what was recorded in the Story Demo from June.

Take note that the test below was conducted on the PlayStation 4 version, which is the tournament standard. Whether or not the PC version can have less delay when v-sync is turned off has not yet been tested.

ARIKA teases the return of Doctrine Dark for their “Mysterious Fighting Game”

Another classic EX character makes his presence known.

ARIKA has given us a glimpse of yet another fan-favorite EX series character, returning to their untitled in-development “Mysterious Fighting Game”: this time, the deadly Doctrine Dark was revealed via a short teaser trailer:

The cast if ARIKA’s fighting game expands, even while it remains nameless! It seems a safe bet that we’ll see most — if not all — of ARIKA’s characters from the Street Fighter EX games returning to this project.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 will feature fully playable versions of Virtua Fighter 2 and VIRTUAL-ON

If you cast your minds back to 2016, you may remember that we reported that Yakuza 6 will allow players to play an emulated version of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown within its in-game arcades. Well, with the recent announcement of Yakuza Kiwami 2, you’ll be able to go further back into Sega’s history.

Located within one of Kiwami 2’s Club Sega arcades, wannabe gangsters can play a few rounds of either Virtua Fighter 2 or VIRTUAL-ON. From on the little footage we’ve seen, it’s not currently known if these emulations are based on the original arcade games, or their Sega Saturn ports.

For those who never played these classics — or simply want a trip down memory lane in between beating up street thugs — keep a look out for Yakuza Kiwami 2 when it comes to the West in 2018. The Yakuza development team are also working on a Fist of the North Star-themed Yakuza game, so we may even see a port of Hokuto no Ken making it into that dream crossover!

Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON shows off some new footage at the Tokyo Game Show

One of the more unique fighting game crossovers that will be coming out next year is Sega’s Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON. This 3D mecha fighter combines the classic VIRTUAL-ON gameplay with characters from the Toaru Majutsu no Index anime and light novel franchise.

At the 2017 Tokyo Game Show, Sega finally showed gameplay of the game — for the first time ever. Despite the anime crossover elements, the game itself plays in traditional VIRTUAL-ON twin-stick fashion. What the collaboration brings, however, is some new mecha designs, combined with some rather unorthodox attacks, and some extra in-match dialogue with anime-style cut-ins.

For those interested in what the game looks like, Kira A has shared the footage from Sega on their YouTube channel. You can check it out below.

Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON launches on PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita — in Japan — on February 15, 2018.
