Shin Hisako Acts as the Fourth Remixed Character Coming to Killer Instinct

Ahead of a full gameplay reveal at Killer Instinct World Cup next weekend, Iron Galaxy have revealed the next fighter that will be coming to KI. Following in the footsteps of characters like Shadow Jago, Kilgore and Omen, Shin Hisako acts as the fourth “remixed” character for Killer Instinct, where elements of a pre-existing characters are reworked to create a new, unique fighter.

For Shin Hisako, she no longer wields her naginata, but a katana containing the spirit of her beloved father. Having purged herself of the centuries of hatred which tied her to her grave, Shin Hisako now takes up her father’s sword to defend the world from the forces of Gargos.

Shin Hisako

Shin Hisako is scheduled to launch later this month, with Iron Galaxy revealing more details about the redeemed warrior at Killer Instinct World Cup next weekend. Her new design has her wearing the signature sode shoulder armor and suneate shin guards of a samurai, combined with a black and gold dress to no doubt symbolize her purged spirit. According to combat designer and formerly of this parish Adam “Keits” Heart, Shin Hisako is “more straightforward to play than regular Hisako,” but with some cool stuff still thrown in. I imagine this will probably be manifest in a change to her Wrath meter, seeing as she has let go of her hundreds of years of anger. The next character will also be “100% new,” so keep your fingers crossed for Joanna Dark.

Panda Global is making big moves lately. Having already developed their own Smash ranking system, they are now setting their sights on NetherRealm Studios games in a big way.

Today saw the signing of Montreal-based Mortal Kombat player Hayatei, alongside Florida-based player and tournament organizer KitanaPrime.

VesperArcade Looks at Hidden Character Changes Found in the Kolin Update for Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V’s second Season Two DLC character, Kolin, was released Tuesday night; but she wasn’t the only part of the version 2.010 update, as /r/StreetFighter has discovered a few hidden balance changes for Alex, Balrog, Dhalsim, Birdie and Chun-Li.

In his latest video about the discovery, VesperArcade reports that Alex’s Power Drop has had its startup increased from 6 to 5 Frames. This change reverts the move to its original Season 1 status, thus removing the “Secret Setup” that had been discovered, which gave him a 1-frame Cancel window to tick grab off of a blocked heavy Flash Chop. Perhaps the setup was unintentional, but Capcom specifically mentioned it in their blog about patch note corrections. Also, he and Balrog’s forward standing hurtboxes have been extended by .015 and .01, respectively. This makes them bigger targets, but also slightly more difficult to crossup now. Chun-Li’s crouching hurtbox was increased vertically by 10%, from 1.01 to 1.12, which should make it more difficult for her to crouch under certain attacks, such as Alex’s St.HK follow-up to Power Bomb, especially after her initial crouching hurtbox increase in the Season 2 patch notes.

However, it’s not all gloom, doom and despair: as the flame god Agni has rewarded Dhalsim’s devotion by increasing his throw range, and Birdie received minor hurtbox adjustments to the end of EX Bullhead. Zangief and R. Mika also had a variable labeled “unknown7” changed on their V-Trigger attacks, but it’s unclear if this means anything significant, or if they were just small bug fixes before the March balance patch, like most of these changes seem to be.

You can see VesperArcade’s full video on the subject below.

A Special Character-Themed Round Robin Event at 2GGC: Civil War Will Decide the Next Saga

Continuing the theme of sides clashing at 2GGC: Civil War, 2GGaming have announced that the next Saga in April will be decided via a special character-themed round robin. Similar to Smash Summit voting, select players from the greater Civil War crew battle will be nominated for the round robin via Twitter, followed by a round of voting which will decide the character that player will use.

Six players will be chosen from the pool of nominations on March 3rd, with the community then voting for the character that each player will use. Each player has a selection of five characters that the community can choose from, so ranging from their main to the character they solely reserve for styling on people in bracket. Say if a player like DNG|Kameme makes it in as one of the six, the community will vote between his character pool of Mega Man, Yoshi, Sheik, Dark Pit and Wario.

This round of voting will end on March 24th, with the six competitors being locked into using their community-voted character. The character who wins the round robin will then decide the title of April’s 2GGC Saga. So, if Kameme’s Yoshi wins the whole thing, April’s event will be 2GGC: Yoshi Saga where the world’s best Yoshis will no doubt be invited to compete to see who is the best. You can find the full list of players and their respective character pools here.

If you are desperate to see your under-represented character get a chance at the spotlight, take to Twitter and rally your fellow mains to the cause. (Otherwise, we’ll probably end up with 2GGC: Cloud Saga.)
