“I don’t even think Season 1 Ryu could survive in Street Fighter V right now.”
Before Ryu was nerfed into oblivion during Season 1, the competitive landscape of SFV was quite different. As the seasons went on and new characters (and absurd V-Triggers) were added to the game, many in the cast struggled to keep up with the top tiers — but Ryu, so badly damaged from a wide array of nerfs, just struggled to keep up with what he once was.
While Capcom has slowly tried to stitch the World Warrior back together, VesperArcade worry that he’s fallen too far behind. This wish-list discussion for Ryu recounts exactly what was lost for the on-the-box protagonist — and what can be done to make him right.
Hello Internet, here are some CROW BITES for you. This is a series for weird trivia and glitches I’ve encountered in my life of fightin’ gamin’. Last time, we talked about the unique stun system of Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix 2. Today, to celebrate the recently-announced Samurai Shodown, I’m looking back to a mechanic that defines much of the series: recoil canceling.
The fundamentals of 2-in-1 combos in most 2D fighters gets turned on its head in Samurai Shodown V Special. The cancel windows are often tight and occur late in the animation of a move — particularly on block, when characters go into a specific recoil animation. This “recoil cancel” isn’t just a combo tool, it is the foundation by which decision-making is based around when playing the game.
SRK’s YouTube channel features guides, reviews, odd trivia, and more, all circling the world of the FGC. If that sounds like your bag, be sure to check out our back catalog here!

Two weeks ago, the online portion of the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour made its second stop in the Eastern Asia region. 145 World Warriors from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea gathered to battle in the streets of the internet. As this was the final Online event for Asia as a whole — as well as the final chance to secure Regional Ranking points before the Asian Regional Final at this weekend’s SEAM 2018 in Singapore — the stakes were undeniably high.
You can catch a full replay of the Top 8 matches, with commentary by Cameraman, RZR|Xian, and Rchan, which clocks in at nearly 4 hours of action, below.
For the past couple of months, combo video wizard Final Showdown has been focusing on a Vegito, Teen Gohan, and Goku in Dragon Ball FighterZ. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that he’s come up with ways to make these characters work together in combos.
The video below showcases the massive damage that this team can pull off, including Touch-of-death combos that do not use Sparking Blast.
In addition to this, Final Showdown has also shared a couple of older videos with combos for the same team. While the combos don’t always reach the heights that those in the video above do, they do showcase the concepts and ideas that he’s been working on.
If you’re a die-hard fan of collectibles, then you’ll want to check out the trailer Bandai Namco just dropped today for SoulCalibur VI‘s Collector’s Edition.
This robust package includes a massive 120-page artbook, a statue of Sophitia, and a metal case for the game’s sweeping orchestral soundtrack. If that all sounds good to you, you’ll have to pony up roughly $150 USD for your pre-order. Somewhat unbelievably, Namco is choosing to not include Season Pass in the collector’s edition — worsening what was already a controversial DLC situation for the game.
Also: the power of sibling rivalry to inspire the competitive urge…
At SoCal Regionals 2018, BornFree caught up with fan-favorite UYU|Kizzie Kay, widely recognized as one of the best Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 players in the world. They talked about the state of Guilty Gear (and what’s in its future), Dragon Ball FighterZ, and what it takes to play multiple fighting games at a high competitive level: “I ask trusted friends very important questions, and I get very important answers.” Check it out below.

If you want to feel like you’re always getting the most damage potential possible from your character, there are easier characters to pick in Tekken 7 than DLC character Anna Williams. Anna might have bad frame data and easily one of the worst punishment games in the roster, but all of that melts away when you realize you only have to guess twice with DF+2 to win a round… assuming, of course, you have exceptional execution. (For the pedantic: technically the juggle is 47%. You might need one CJM D+33 to even things out.)
You’ll need to learn instant While Standing+3’s, properly timed QCF+1’s, microdashing and more, but all these techniques (combined with DB+1,4’s odd quirk of doing un-scaled grounded damage) turn every Anna conversion into potentially round stealing victories.
SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy just recently added a second guest character (as well as its second gender-bent one) in the form of Skullomania. For those wondering what he — or rather, she — can do in this game, Mikadok has released a combo video for her.
The combo system in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy does allow for a fair bit of creativity, despite the game’s simplified nature. Some of the things it allows, such as an air dash after certain moves, definitely lets Skullomania pull off some impressive-looking things. A couple of things that Mikadok doesn’t use in this video however are items and tag-ins – yes, all the combos here are done purely by Skullomania, without the help of others to extend them.
For anyone interested in learning how to pull off the combos in the video above, you can check out the notation for them, alongside other important information on playing the game, here.
