In light of Street Fighter 30th AnniversaryCollection‘s release, I’ve been bombarded with requests to do some Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike character tutorials. It warms my heart to think that people want to learn my favorite title in the franchise even twenty years down the line, so I’m only happy to oblige. I’ve started with Ryu, as he’s a strong character in the engine and one of the most popular — though I expect I’ll prepare a similar video for most of the cast.

Recently, IGN hosted an interview with SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo on their E3 stream. As part of the interview, they showcased a decent amount of gameplay footage, including some with guest character Geralt of Rivia.
Now, IGN has uploaded a new video with the same footage of Geralt — but with no cuts. The video below features sets with some of the same matches shown at the interview. This time however, the matches are played straight with no interview audio playing over it, and no cuts to Okubo and the IGN staff, giving a clearer look at said matches.
SoulCalibur VI is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One later this year.
Fighting EX Layer is almost upon us — and to help keep the hype up for the game, ARIKA has released a couple of new videos of it in action.
The first of these showcases a number of matches. Specifically, we have Shirase versus Skullomania, then D. Dark takes on Garuda — before we see Skullomania again, this time against Blair Dame. In addition to showing these characters in action, it also gives us a sample of how some of the game’s Gougi systems work.
The second video from ARIKA, on the other hand, showcases the game’s “Expert Mode”. This is the game’s take on the combo challenge modes in other games. The difference here is that players are actually graded on their performance, which includes how long it takes for them to complete a course.

Sidestepping strings is a critical skill you need to develop as you advance up the ranks of Tekken 7. There’s many strings that are frustratingly safe, but only on the surface level — with study, you’ll come to find that the gaps in these strings make them every bit as risky as anything else in the series.
Whether its Devil Jin’s Laser Scraper or Lucky Chole’s Cali Roll, most characters have a strange safe tool that is begging to be sidestepped. Scallywag 93‘s latest tutorial goes over various examples and breaks down common attributes to look for when beating these strings.
Earlier this month, as part of SNK’s online presentation, we finally got a look at the NEO GEO Mini’s controllers. With this reveal, some were expecting that these would be shipped with the mini console itself — however, it turns out that wont be the case.
4Gamer, who was checking out SNK’s NEO GEO Mini booth at E3, is reporting that the NEO GEO Mini’s controllers will be sold separately from the console. This is an interesting decision on SNK’s part considering that Nintendo ships controllers with their mini consoles (the NES Classic and SNES Classic). It seems that the company is leaning on players using the build in miniature arcade controls.
Speaking of arcade controls, SNK is aware that some players would prefer to use a proper arcade stick for the classic NEO GEO games on the system. As such, they have stated that are considering making one for the NEO GEO Mini.
The NEO GEO Mini Japanese version is launching in Japan this Summer, with the NEO GEO Mini International arriving sometime after. In the meantime, check out this video from 4Gamer where they take the Japanese version out for a spin.
Though BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle didn’t have an E3 2018 presence, that doesn’t mean players weren’t busy figuring out new ways to deplete health bars. If you still can’t escape from daunting neutral or need some combo ideas, here’s a couple of general tips as well as videos showing off synergy between Jin, Weiss, Nu-13, and Yukiko. First up, rooflemonger goes over some semi-advanced tips to elevate your game. If you’ve mastered the basics, check out his tips regarding damage optimization, backdashing, and more.
The first half of video focuses on Jin, showing his high-damage solo potential. But it also displays team combos, showing off their synergy in a variety of situations (like Reversal Action punishes, which prevent the opponent from using Cross Burst). We get to see some combos into the Astral Heat, and then the latter half focuses more on Weiss.
Who knew Yukiko can find some use after all? Even though she’s still a very weak character overall in BBTAG, she does bring some unique synergy to her partner. The video shows practical combos that set up good zoning situations for them, and even allows time to heal up or Fire Boost for increased damage.

Street Fighter V‘s most high-profile feud has been between Austin Creed and Kenny Omega, a well-documented rivalry years in the making. Intersecting fighting games, WWE and NJPW pro wrestling, the years of (entertaining) bad blood has finally come to a head in the form of a Six-Man Tag Team Throwdown between Kenny Omega and The Elite versus Austin Creed and The New Day.
But the real draw is Omega versus Creed, Cody versus Ibuki, and Peppers versus Pride. Check out the video above to see which wrestling promotion has the strongest Street Fighter!
As E3 2018 came to an end, ESL hosted the first competitive SoulCalibur VI tournament available to attendees of the event. In the midst of Bandai Namco developer interviews and the story trailer, it’s good to get down to business with some real gameplay.
There’s pretty good character representation in the tournament (footage timestamped and embedded below). We get to see Siegfried, Yoshimitsu, Xianghua, Geralt, Zasalamel, and Maxi. Taki, and Kilik make appearances as well. Keep in mind that the command list is still not available to see in the game, so most people were only able to guess and figure out moves as they went. However, it shows when some of them have put in the time to get a general plan.
UYU|Beautifuldude’s Grøh stands out in particular. What’s even more impressive though is that this is his first SoulCalibur game, indicating not only that he applied his good fighting game fundamentals, but also that SoulCalibur VI is relatively accessible even if you come from different spheres of the FGC.
If you’re not sure whether you should be hype about Jump Force, then these E3 2018 attendees might convince you! Bandai Namco took the time to interview some folks about their impressions from playing the franchise crossover — among them a few celebrities, like rapper Soulja Boy and Rocco Botte from Mega64.
As evident in the video below, the mash-up of Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto in one game is a dream come true. Even Soulja Boy said Jump Force is “lit.” One person talked about the fact that the 3D area fits the game extremely well. Overall, they praised the frenetic gameplay as well as the art style, which is a mix between realism and anime.
Street Fighter Carnival 11 is underway! Mikado Arcade’s currently-ongoing multi-game tournament series runs a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. This series just started, so if you want to start from the beginning, go here!
Today, we definitely have both classic and obscure on display:
Obscure: Developed in 1994 by South Korean based Viccom, Fight Fever is a strange (but entertaining) zoning-heavy Street Fighter clone published by SNK, and largely forgotten by time. There’s also an American basketball-player-turned-fighter character is named “Magic Dunker,” an amazing fact that I will never stop bringing up.
And for classics, returning to the Mikado lineup is Virtua Fighter 3tb. It’s no surprise: Mikado recently ran the Virtua Fighter 3tb World Cup 2018 major, which you can see the VOD for here. VF3tb reigns supreme at Mikado and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down anytime soon.
