Y. Xiao shows off Menat mid-screen juggles for V-Trigger I and II in Street Fighter: V Arcade Edition

Menat was introduced in Street Fighter V Season 2 as an all-or-nothing resource-munching combo monster. And while she’s still largely a character waiting patiently to dump her resources into a single big damage combo, she has some new tricks up her sleeve for both her combos and her neutral.

The trick in question is ‘Soul Spark’, a new move designed to give her an additional explosive attack when her Soul Sphere is placed. It’s also a juggle-filler tool, as demonstrated by Y. Xiao’s latest combo video: this new move has decent synergy with both of her V-Triggers, allowing her new and devastating combo paths.

BadIntenet breaks down the way option-selects work in Pokkén Tournament DX

Option-Selects, or OSes, are simply manipulating the way a fighting game reads an input so that you get different (desired) results in different situations. OSes exist in some small form in every fighting game, and Pokkén Tournament DX is no different.

What sets Pokkén’s OS’s apart from most other games is that the hitstop dramatically differs not between Hit and Guard, but Hit and Counter Armor. Since Counter Attacks are one of the primary defensive options in the game, this is an important distinction. Pokkén pro BadIntent latest video is a vital lecture on learning not only how these OSes work, but how you can build your own OS for any situation you run into.

Team Liquid says farewell to NuckleDu in this touching video

It’s official — NuckleDu has parted ways with Team Liquid. While he had hinted as possibly doing so in January when his contract expired, he has now confirmed that he will likely be signing a new contract with another team soon.

Given the history he had with the organization as their first fighting game player — as well as the success he experienced with the team — Team Liquid posted a farewell video to honor him and their special relationship with Du. While we currently wait for his announcement of his new team, we look back with fond memories of his time in a Team Liquid jersey.

R. Mika has a strange glitch with her V-Trigger II in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Capcom recently announced a patch intended to fix several bugs in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. However, there are still some remnants that have went unchecked, and one in particular affects R. Mika — or shall we say Nadeshiko — in a bizarre way.

Her V-Trigger II sees Nadeshiko runs in with a steel chair, hell-bent on damaging anyone in her path. However, in certain situations, she’ll teleport in with the steel chair and then teleport out like a character in Street Fighter II: Rainbow Edition. Nadeshiko clearly needs to work on her teleportation powers.

No doubt this will get patch out soon, but enjoy Nadeshiko’s phase-shifting abilities for the time being.

FrameWhisperer discusses the character usage rates in Tekken 7

While tiers are a very popular way to decide your character in competitive fighting games, online play can skew the character popularity away from the most powerful. However, in Tekken 7, it appears as though the correlation between strong and popular sticks very close together.

Rounding out the top three by a long shot are Paul, Dragunov, and Bryan — three characters that are considered strong and easy to use by many. While other characters that are considered strong — such as Xiaoyu — are located near the bottom of the list, it’s worth noting that she takes far more effort to make work in the competitive scene.

World Warrior FGC shows off combos and counterhit setups for Nash in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

World Warrior FGC has been featured before here at SRK — the man has an addiction to finding setups and pressure options for his favorite characters in Street Fighter V. With the release of Arcade Edition, he’s turned his wake-up controlling sights to Nash.

The Off-The-Ground hit property (commonly known as OTG) to Nash’s new V-Trigger has opened up a wide variety of new combo possibilities for the Frankenstein solider. This is the core of the above video, which contains an assortment of the combos and counter-hit traps to help you maintain momentum.

Feast your eyes on these amazing Tekken 7 wall carries and impractical combos

When is it ever a bad day for a Tekken combo video? Tekken 7 has some amazing potential for combos, and even practical combos can look very flashy. However, the impractical combos far exceed the flashiness, and to players that understand the system and the relevant frame data know how amazing these combos are.

This combo video features a plethora of characters, including Jin, Jack-7, Hwoarang, and Geese showing off some amazing carries. It also showcases an Alisa combo off her exploding head launcher — something that would likely never see the light of day outside of combo videos.

There’s a priority system for attack strength in Dragon Ball FighterZ

As it’s still very early in its life span, there’s some mechanics in Dragon Ball FighterZ that could end up being a lot more important in the long run then they are currently. One of those mechanics is almost certainly the newly discovered Priority System, as explained by GFAnBi in his latest video:

Just like other fighting games with a Priority System, all this means for DBFZ is that attacks that hit on the same frame will “win” if they use a stronger button then the attack they interact with. Since much of the frame data for DBFZ is not currently known at the time of this writing, it’s hard to test how extensive this is, or how it applies to things like Ki Blasts and other projectiles.

But as frame traps tighten and as the engine as further understood, this could be a vital mechanic in the potentially rush-down heavy world of DBFZ.

VesperArcade discusses the early tier rankings of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

With Frosty Faustings X and Evo Japan in the bag, and the community having two weeks in the lab and online with Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, we are starting to discuss potential character rankings for the game. Bear in mind that no tier list is perfect, and things will change the more we learn about the game.

With that said, VesperArcade has released his own personal tier list. While he bases it considerably on Tokido and Mago’s tier list, there are some deviations between the two, as he explains in the video.
