Mikado kicks off “Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” with Fatal Fury Special, King of Fighters ’95, World Heroes 2 tournaments

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” is under way! SSFC is the regularly occurring tournament series of Japan’s famous Mikado Arcade. Don’t be fooled by the title- this series cherishes a variety of vintage arcade games, bringing out hype and high level play. SSFC2017 is the current tournament season, scheduled to go from Oct. 11th through Dec. 17th. Its previous season, SSFC2016, was covered here.

Three events have already completed: Fatal Fury Special, King of Fighters ’95, and World Heroes 2.

If you can read Japanese (or if you want to play everyone’s favorite game: deciphering Google translations), you can preview this seasons’ games and player scores with Mikado’s public Drive document. The next game scheduled on the 16th is SNK’s Korean-developed Fight Fever.

You can follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

Become the Machampion with Pokkén Tournament DX’s Litten + Machamp combos

One of the most important things in Pokkén Tournament DX is picking the right support to assist you in battle. I’m not sure that Machamp needed more damage at his disposal but one of DX’s new supports, Litten, opens up some notable combo possibilities for one of Pokkén’s premier grapplers.

And it’s not just damage — when Machamp gets low on HP, Litten gets powered up with a multi-hitting, high damage explosion. If this connects, Machamp has enough to self-buff with his Bulk Up special move, and then still combo afterwards. This is really good for match-ups where Machamp may not have many safe opportunities to actually apply Bulk Up. Combine that with Litten’s counter piercing properties and decent charge time, and this could very well end up being a relevant support for the original wrestling Pokémon.

How does Dragon Ball FighterZ pay homage to the anime? Check out a new compilation

We already know that Arc System Works and Bandai Namco want to please the fans of Dragon Ball as much as possible. Striking a balance between a fun game for everyone, as well as making it competitive and deep, seems to be going well for them. Those who know the anime and manga have already noticed a multitude of similarities between the works.

Kizz uploaded an excellent comparison video that positions footage from the game right by the anime to check out how they were modeled. You can see everything from Goku’s intro animation to Piccolo and Krillin’s signature attacks. The video also shows attacks from some more recently-announced characters, like Android 18.

Check it out below — and we also have articles on more Dragon Ball FighterZ comparisons with its material, like Piccolo and Krillin references as well as SSB Goku and Vegeta references.

Persona Entertainment shows off The King of Fighters XIV’s Andy Bogard: 100% combos, stuns, and more!

I hope you’re ready to elbow some fools, because Persona Entertainment is back with more combos for The King of Fighters XIV‘s Andy Bogard.

Unsurprisingly centered around Andy’s EX Zaneiken, these combos run the gamut from powerful and practical (check out the 100% jump-in combo on Mai!) to flashy and impractical (e.g. spending 3-bars on a super that doesn’t hit just so you can link after a fireball, for example.)

There’s a lot of characters in The King of Fighters XIV, and it’s a daunting task to make combo videos for all of them, but that’s exactly what Persona Entertainment is doing. If you want to see more of their excellent work, you should absolutely check out their channel here!

Black Panther, Monster Hunter, and Sigma get into the action in Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite stream

With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s first batch of DLC characters hitting early next week, Capcom went ahead and showed off more of them during a special stream last night.

The Capcom-Unity stream focused on showing off some of the things these characters — Black Panther, Monster Hunter, and Sigma — can do. This includes some things that may help players in dealing with certain match-ups (e.g. Sigma’s counter move working against Gamora’s gun shots, automatically teleporting him right beside her).

For those that missed the stream, the replay of it is currently up on Twitch. Interested players can check it out below:

Black Panther, Monster Hunter, and Sigma are set to hit Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for all platforms on October 17.

ARMS version 3.2 update adds the Replay List

Thanks to a recent trailer, we already know some of the features that ARMS‘ version 3.2 update will add, such as Badge Stash and robotic Spring Man. Now, the game’s official Twitter account has revealed yet another new feature – the Replay List.

In a recent tweet, the official ARMS Twitter account gave some details regarding the new Replay List feature.  In the example below, a number of matches are automatically saved (specifically, seven of the last ten fights). Each entry also lists the information on the characters participating, kind of match, and when the match was fought. Meanwhile, players can also pause and rewind these matches when watching them.

Is Plup a new god of Melee? Mew2King offers his opinion on the current competitive pantheon

For those who haven’t been keeping tabs on the competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee scene, The Big House 7 last weekend marked a pivotal moment in the game’s history. Not only did the tournament see four of the Melee Gods all in Losers’ Quarters, but it saw Plup earning his first ever victory on current king of the mountain, Armada. This victory makes Plup the second “godslayer” in Melee, joining Leffen in the small category of players who have taken a set off each of the Five Gods. Funnily enough, the Winners’ Finals of The Big House 7 saw the two godslayers facing off, with Plup coming out as the victor

A larger question remains though: can Plup now be considered one of the current Gods of Super Smash Bros. Melee? With PPMD still on hiatus and Leffen taking his spot in the rankings, is it time to make it the Six Gods of Melee, rather than just five? One of the original Five Gods and current world number four Mew2King seems to think so.

With there being such a large gap between the sixth and seventh place spots in the current MIOM global ranking, Mew2King argues that Plup has more than proved his God status — with several wins on all of the other Gods outside of Armada. When you also consider that Plup’s showdown with Armada was their first meeting in the whole of 2017 and that Plup took it 3-1, it could signal that he has cracked the match up.

TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids — Possible alignment issues when stepping, and how to prevent it

When we were putting together the last Electric Wind God Vids tutorial on defeating Leo’s B+1,4 string (which you can check out here!), an odd problem arose: sometimes characters could step in-between the string, and sometimes they couldn’t. These inconsistent results were not human error: it happened when the computer was programmed to step post-block, too. It also didn’t seem to correlate to the range of the B+1, so late active frames couldn’t be blamed for this. What gives?

This is a hypothesis, but we suspect that the cause is the defender’s hurt-spheres not realigning after blocking the initial hit. The issue only occurs if you don’t manually realign your off-axis state before blocking Leo’s b+1. So, in this video, we visually demonstrate this problem, and how to avoid it happening to you!

Demon King Dabura and Majin Buu (Gohan Absorbed) show their power in a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 gameplay trailer

Just because Dragon Ball FighterZ is on the horizon with the Spirit Hypebomb gathering energy at a rapid pace, doesn’t mean that Bandai Namco Entertainment is neglecting its current Dragon Ball title. Last month, we reported that — even though the game’s Season Pass offerings have long since ended — Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 would be receiving an additional pair of fighters on the roster: the Majin Buu Saga’s Demon King Dabura and Majin Buu (Gohan Absorbed,) the form Super Buu took after absorbing the powers of Gotenks, Piccolo and Mystic Gohan within himself. These two will be joining the game’s playable roster as part of DLC Pack 5, which will also include a new Mentor in the form of Dragon Ball Super’s dark Supreme Kai, Zamasu.

In this trailer, we can see the two pummeling Vegito and Adult Gohan with a variety of their signature attacks, including the Demon King’s Stone Breath and legendary sword skills. In contrast, Super Buu utilizes his personal version of Gotenks’s Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, as well as the Kamehameha Wave, and his uniquely stretchy anatomy to command throw and pummel his foes from great distances. No release date has been given for this content — though the new Z Warriors are expected to join the battle sometime this fall, and have also been confirmed to be paid DLC. However, additional free content will also be arriving at some point. You can see the full trailer below.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam PC and Nintendo Switch.
