Learn all the ways Sheik can use platforms to her advantage in this tutorial for Super Smash Bros. Melee

It goes without saying that in the Super Smash Bros. series, movement is the cornerstone to playing well. One of the most overlooked movement options is navigating toward platforms, in particular on Yoshi’s Story and Pokemon Stadium.

While most of the cast can use No Impact Lands — which negates the landing frames of your jump onto a platform — Sheik has a few more options to land on platforms. Using her short hop needle landings and short hop neutral air landings, she can land faster on the platform and extend her combos.

ARMS Ver 3.2 adds in a new achievement system, along with Spring Man’s robotic clone

Following its appearance at the Nintendo World Championships last night, Nintendo has released a new trailer showing off some of the new content coming in ARMS Ver 3.2. The main addition is the Badge Stash, a special achievement system where players gain badges for completing specific tasks. You can then attach these badges to your online profile, to show off your skills.

In a short teaser at the end of the trailer, we get a glimpse of a robotic version of Spring Man, designed in the style of Hedlok from the single-player Grand Prix mode. He appears on for just a few seconds, so it’s hard to tell if this metal counterpart is a brand new character, or just an alt-skin for ARMS‘ mascot.

WWE Superstars get some Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite action with F3|Hollywood Sleep and Splyce|FChamp at WWE x IGN eSports Showdown

This past weekend, alongside the New York Comic Con, IGN held their first ever WWE x IGN eSports Showdown. The event saw a number of WWE Superstars compete in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

The main event was a 4 man tournament featuring the Phenomenal AJ Styles, the Swiss Cyborg Cesaro, Kofi Kingston, and the fighting general manager Xavier Woods. In addition to this, a grudge match also took place between 2 former WWE Raw Woman’s Champions, the BOSS Sasha Banks, and Bayley.

What’s interesting about the latter is the fact that it was a tag team match with both the Boss and Bayley bringing in actual professional fighting game players. In Sasha’s corner, she brought in F3 Flipside Tactics’ Hollywood Sleep. Bayley on the other hand stacked the deck in her favor by bringing in fellow NorCal resident, Splyce’s Filipino Champ.

For those who missed it, you can check out the entire event in the video below.

Push Leo’s Magic 4 combo damage to the limit in Tekken 7

There’s a large disparity in the options different characters off their magic 4s in Tekken 7. (If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a Magic 4, SRK has made a video detailing the concept here!) While some characters get quite easy conversions off these fast counter-hit tools, many have to work on difficult micro-dashes in order to convert meaningful damage output.

Leo is one such character. It’ll take some practice, but with Scallywag 93‘s latest tutorial you can finally break 33% off of Leo’s Magic 4, and in the process cover one of the character’s few weaknesses.

desk’s latest Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite combo video only uses one button

How do you feel about auto-combos in fighting games? The FGC is understandably guarded about the perceived dumbing down of an integral part of our genre. But most of the time when this mechanic appears, the damage output of auto-combos almost inevitably pales in comparison to “real” combos.

Desk’s latest video was a test to push the damage of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s auto-combos to their limits, a task likely inspired by his recent attempts to understand MvC:I’s infinite protection system. While most of these combos are better at giving your opponent meter then actually killing them, it is interesting to see some characters (like Chris and Dante) approach half life with just Light Punch. If nothing else, desk’s study was worth it to find some long, disrespectful ways to close a match.

Though, I don’t know if it’s necessary to dismember a poor stick over this, desk. Give him his buttons back!

Great Big Story catches up with Street Fighter legend Tomo Ohira to talk about his departure

While there is many legends within the fighting game community, none have had the influence on the American scene like that of Tomo Ohira. The Los Angeles-based player made a name for himself as the best Street Fighter II player alive, winning tournament after tournament before eventually disappearing from the scene altogether.

His name is so iconic that people still ask where he is and if he will ever make a return to the competitive scene. In this video from Great Big Story, they chronicle some of his achievements prior to his departure, before getting word from the man himself, who says he left because the fire to compete had been exchanged with the fire to simply not lose. They also give us a glimpse into what he is doing now.

FGC Philosophy explores media’s relationship with the fighting game community

We all start from somewhere, and SRK’s own Editor-in-Chief Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, started as a reader like anyone else. In the latest episode of FGC Philosophy, he was invited to chat with The Philocypher’s to discuss the relationship between the fighting game community and our website.

Within this discussion is a look at the correlation between communication and gameplay skills. If you’re interested in a path in gaming journalism (within the FGC or otherwise!), then make some time to listen to this episode.

Blocking won’t save you from Braixen’s new Homing Attack cancel in Pokkén Tournament DX

In the days of the Wii U, Braixen was queen of Pokkén Tournament. Though she received a number of nerfs in the transition to the Nintendo Switch version, Pokkén Tournament DX‘s Braixen didn’t walk away empty handed: Now that she has the ability to special cancel her homing attack, the sky’s the limit for guard crush and chip damage setups.

Perhaps it isn’t a surprise that the lone Pokémon with the ability to cancel into assists can make use of a new special cancel-able move. But what makes this new tool so potentially good is the versatility it adds to a character that was already very good at winning field phases in the first place. Time will tell if support-canceled-homing attacks ends up being as terrifying as they look now, but until counter strategies develop, you can count on even more meter being swung Braixen’s way thanks to this.

Catch lightning in a bottle with MK_REO’s Raiden breakdowns for Injustice 2

Over the past few days, Injustice pro MK_REO has been putting out a great set of videos all centered around Injustice 2‘s newly released Thunder God, Raiden. To get a feel for playing as Raiden, new players will probably want to start with REO’s beginner combo guide:

A big part of playing the character, though, will be making the most of his Character Trait’s insane meter building and safety.

As far as learning to fight against Raiden, REO has documented all the gaps and frame traps in his move-list are in his “Video Library” series.

And last but not least, check out Raiden’s incredible pressure from his EX Teleport cancels.

Touhou 15.5 to release on October 15th with Doremy confirmed as a playable character

Anime-style fighting games have definitely carved a niche into the FGC, with a decent following on every title released, no matter how small. Touhou 15.5: The Antinomy of Common Flowers — a fighting game among a long line of doujin-based shooters — has been awaiting a release date for quite some time.

Today, we now have that release date set as October 15th. On top of that, we have a newly announced character joining the cast. Doremy Sweet — the ruler of the dream world — will be making her way into the game, as evidenced in the trailer below.
