Incorporate Lars’s Rage Drive into your rushdown game for Tekken 7

In Tekken 7 tournament play, Rage Drives tend to fall into one of two categories: either as a neutral tool or as a combo extender. This isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but you’re a lot more likely to see Rage Drives used in the way they are clearly built for. Clear examples of this are Heihachi’s powerful combo-filling stomp, or Xiaoyu’s mix-up low combo starter.

Lars’s Rage Drive sits at an odd place, then. It can only be done from “Silent Entry” stance, so it doesn’t quite have the explosiveness of, say, Paul’s Rage Drive Death Fist. But it also doesn’t wildly increase the combo damage output on Lars’s Juggles, only netting him another 5% or so typically.

This is where JusticeSoulTuna‘s video comes in: here, he examines the strength not of Lars’s damage output from Rage Drive, but the rushdown setups afterwards. On block, Rage Drive puts Lars into his “Dynamic Entry” stance and leaves him at +7 on block — enough to counter-hit freely with DE 2. It also gives him an uninterruptible throw attempt from DE stance, if you think the opponent’s throw-breaking is less than stellar. If the opponent gets hit by DE 2 on normal hit instead of counter-hit, you also have another counter-hit setup for B+4: an underrated safe, high-damage on counter-hit, unparryable mid.

Sector-K Games shows off latest developments, combos, and resets of Punch Planet

It was last at Evo 2017 that we had a major announcement from Sector-K Games on their sci-fi indie fighter Punch Planet. In the interim, the development team has been quietly toiling away at their engine, improving game speed and polishing up animations.

They’ve recently released a in-development teaser for the game, showing the announced cast’s combos and mixup potential. Based on this footage, we can see that the game seems to be moving in a more reset-heavy direction. If you love or hate this design decision, you can let Sector-K Games know directly: they stream development of the game live on their Twitch channel, and are always looking for player feedback.

Punch Planet is in development for Steam by Sector-K Games, and you can find more information about the battle system and story on their official website.

Start your week with more combos in this Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite video roundup

Even with the number of tournaments for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite taking place this past weekend, that hasn’t stopped players from pumping out content for the game. For this Monday’s round up of MvC:I videos, the focus is purely on combos, with a number of interesting videos dedicated to them.

That said, we do have a couple of tutorial videos here as well. However, they’re both also dedicated to combos! First up, TrueUnderDawg has put out a video guide for any prospective Captain Marvel players, looking to figure out how to combo with her.

Following up on that, for characters that use flight cancels, Meoang has put up a guide.

Meanwhile, for those who caught some of the Arthur action in tournaments this past weekend (including SoCal Regionals’s grand finals), Mikeydactyl has shared a video demonstrating a combo for the Ghouls and Ghosts lead that uses his gold armor super.

Mr. Wright, on the other hand, shows off some combos for the team of X and Jedah.

MFreshness on the other hand focuses solely on Gamora, and some of the crazy combos that she can do.

Finally, legendary combo video creator FINAL SHOWDOWN has put up three videos. The first two are dedicated to the game’s “average man” Ryu. Showcasing some cool combos, including a corner loop with his hurricane kick.

He follows that up with another combo video, this time showing off some interesting combos for Strider Hiryu.

Both the Ryu and Strider Hiryu combo videos are labeled as “part 1,” so expect more content from FINAL SHOWDOWN in the future.

Slash into Pokkén Tournament DX with Swillo’s Scizor combo video

The newly released Pokkén Tournament DX brought five new characters to consoles, among them the steel/bug-type Pokémon Scizor. Anyone that happened to just catch SCR 2017 this weekend may have seen sponsored Pokkén Pro Labib “Slippingbug” Haq rocking Scizor in top 4, in fact.

Based on his performance, it’s easy to say that Scizor is a pretty good pick right now for tournaments. He’s new, unfamiliar, and as Swillo & BimmyQuestion demonstrate in their latest combo video, pumps out a ton of damage. Once he equips his power-up Swords Dance, he can even further extend his damage output and versatility. Being able to convert into 200+ damage from anywhere on the field in Pokkén is absolutely no joke, no matter where the meta goes.

Oki concepts, team combos and one touch kills: it’s time for your weekend Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite round-up

It’s the first weekend of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and the tech train shows no signs of stopping. With players starting to discover one touch kills and potential counters to prevalent tactics, we’re beginning to get into the real meat of MvC:I. This weekend round-up has a pretty broad selection of tech, so let’s get started:

First off, xero18 outlines the changes that have been made to Spider-Man’s Ultimate Web Throw, compared to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

If you’re running a Spider-Man/Iron Man team, ecksyz has got some interesting oki concepts to keep your opponent locked in the corner.

It’s only five days since launch and I think everyone is already sick of Dormammu’s Thorn carpet. TDG Oso has been in the lab and has discovered a few ways to escape from Dormmamu’s clutches.

If you’re new to Marvel, rooflemonger has made a thorough guide which covers several vital concepts which weren’t covered in the tutorial.

For those looking to run Dante and Jedah, sitvergold has compiled a decent number of combos for this demonic team.

Want to play Dante but can’t quite get to grips with him? Erased Citizens has a fantastic beginner’s guide for those wishing to learn the charismatic demon hunter.

Straight from Clockw0rk’s stream, he shows how Ghost Rider’s bike super can get him caught in a spot of bother.

I Really Dunno has found a touch of death combo with Team Street Fighter that kills every character in the game. The execution looks really tight and it requires Ryu to be at 25% health, but it sure looks cool.

And to finish off this round-up, combo wizard desk has set his sights on newcomer Captain Marvel for his latest showcase.

PND|Ketchup follows Jesus through arcade mode in Fight of Gods

With all of the controversy surrounding Fight of Gods, one might find it refreshing to see it being accepted in some corners of the FGC. One particular fighting gamer who has been showing the godly brawler love is PND|Ketchup, who recently uploaded a streamed arcade run he did while playing as the son of God.

Ketchup pulls off some pretty sweet combos with Jesus, and the footage also shows off the moves of the other fighters such as Zeus, Moses and Odin. Check out Ketchup’s “Perfect Run” below, and if you are inclined to see more, check out our Fight of Gods combo roundup.

Smash the Record saw a Melee-playing AI taking on the pros

Be warned, Skynet now has its sights set on competitive gaming. Artificial intelligence has had strong results playing people in chess, Go, and even StarCraft 2. There have also been instances of learning bots in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V. Now we’re seeing its effects in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

At Smash the Record, Smashbot took on many top players, including Team Liquid’s Chudat and Chillindude. The results were staggering, as the AI pulled off frame perfect infinites, high level spikes, and three and four stocked its way through the competition, leaving some visually frustrated. While it only works on Final Destination at the moment, be scared if you see Smashbot in your tournament bracket.

Learn to fuzzy guard Red Hood’s “Going Ballistic” character power in Injustice 2

Having trouble with Red Hood’s “Going Ballistic” character power? This string can seem pretty overwhelming at first — he has low, mid, and throw options all off of the same string. On paper it’s a three-way mix-up, but in actuality there’s nothing to fear thanks to “Fuzzy Guarding.”

As NRS-dedicated content creator and pro MK_REO demonstrates, there’s a particular motion you can use to negate all three options. Depending upon the character you play, this potentially makes every single mix-up option a sudden unsafe liability for the Red Hood player.
