Mew2King shows his methods for testing falling speed in Super Smash Bros. Melee

With the proliferation of emulators, well-made training modes and capture cards, finding accurate data for fighting game mechanics is easier then it ever has been before. This fact is prossibly lost on a newer player in the fighting game community, but definitely not on someone like Mew2King.

As one of the most legendary Super Smash Bros. Melee players in the history of the game’s competitive lifespan, he’s had to do some crazy-looking things to get the information he needed to advance his game. Check out the video below to take a trip to the past:

Mew2King’s demonstration gives small glimpse of the combination of math, ingenuity, and tenacity he employed nearly a decade and a half ago. No motivation from ssports or sponsorship drove him to this: just curiosity and an intense love of his game.

Novriltataki analyzes the meters and assist types of Blazblue Cross Tag Battle’s character reveal trailer

With the reveal of Jin Kisaragi of Blazblue, Linne of Under Night In-Birth, and Yosuke Hanamura of Persona 4 Arena, Arc System Works gave us a glimpse of the meters involved in the game’s core mechanics in the latest trailer. Novriltataki delved into what he could see from the trailer, and gave the FGC some useful information to go off of.

In this video, he notes that assists have their own meter, with assists costing one half of the meter. Otherwise, the assists seem to be freeform and operate in a similar style to Tekken Tag Tournament 2‘s assist mechanics. He also discusses the super meter, noting that supers will cost two bars of it, while the bar can hold three stocks of meter. What will this discrepancy mean for gameplay itself? That is yet to be determined.

ApocyphicV breaks down Claudio’s best, and worst, moves in Tekken 7

In Tekken 7, the casual observer might be lead to believe that a list of Claudio’s best 15 moves would just include his hopkick copy-pasted 15 times over. This is because there’s been something of an over-estimation of how good this meme-ified launcher actually is: it crushes highs at the beginning, lows at the end, and has fantastic range. But like all hopkicks, it lacks safety, and even lacks step coverage to one side.

Now that the game has settled and players are punishing hopkicks more consistently, Claudio players have had to learn to calm their hopkick trigger finger a bit. This is where ApocryphicV‘s “Claudio Clinic” comes in. Here, he breaks down and explains critical tools for Claudio, and weak moves to avoid using. Any Claudio player looking to move beyond day-one hopkick strategies should find something useful here in this list.

Float above your opponents with these Black Manta combos and tricks for Injustice 2

With Black Manta’s recent release into Injustice 2, players are clamoring to figure out all the tech they can before he is made tournament legal next month. His interesting float mechanics are making for some interesting things, and we could see a decent number of players adopt him as one of their characters pretty soon.

This combo video shows some of the capabilities of Black Manta, with some heavy use of his float mechanics to deal out decent amounts of damage. One particular thing of note is that Black Manta can link normals in the air, if you make use of float cancels.

Make even the ground turbulent with these Rashid Nail Assault meaty setups for Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V‘s Rashid has controlled the air for a long time, but how well does he control the ground? With these meaty setups off of his low V-Skill, Nail Assault, he can control the ground perfectly fine.

NurseLee has concocted several devastating meaty followups to his Nail Assault, which makes his pressure far more difficult to deal with. He particularly finishes with a perfect safe jump that will make Rashid’s air game even more dangerous. This works only on quick rise, but if executed perfectly will make every DP whiff, leading to massive damage.

VesperArcade asks: Will we be getting a Zeku reveal for Street Fighter V soon?

Guy’s lost master may be found sooner than we expect, thanks to the Tokyo Game Show.

If there was any doubt that the Ed/Abigail/Menat/Zeku roster leak was inaccurate, Abigail’s appearance at Evo 2017’s Street Fighter V finals pretty much sealed the deal. That made Menat no surprise, and as such Zeku, Guy’s Bushinryu master, is all but confirmed. The question is not who, but when?

VesperArcade speculates that the Tokyo Game Show is an ideal venue to give us our first official look at the Bushinryu warrior, as a Japanese event would be a fitting place to reveal a ninja master. That would mean we could be getting some news on Season 2’s final fighter pretty much any time now. In the video below, VesperArcade discusses this likelihood, and goes on to explore how Zeku could potentially play in SFV — based on the moveset of his student, Guy, in former titles.

Square Enix officially reveals Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis in TGS 2017 trailer for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Square Enix’s latest arena fighter, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, just recently came off of a new character reveal with its returning villain, Ultimecia. While the time-compression sorceress was likely a shoe-in all along, it was still a blow to a vocal contingent waiting and cheering for the addition of Final Fantasy XV‘s lead protagonist, Noctis.

There have been rumors (and according to Destructoid, leaks by Amazon) that Noctis was going to be added the game’s roster for some time now, but nothing had been officially confirmed. Until today, that is — as Square Enix revealed the the weapon-warping hero at the trailing end of the Tokyo Game Show trailer:

“A new ally, I see.” Noctis’s reveal comes just under four months shy of Dissidia’s planned January 11th, 2018 release date for the PS4 in Japan (and on the 30th worldwide). Are you satisfied with the roster as it is, or are you hoping Square squeezes one more surprise character in before launch?

ARIKA’s Tokyo Games Show trailer shows Allen Snider in action

Revealed back in August, the latest trailer for ARIKA’s “Mysterious Fighting Game” shows the all-American karate master Allen Snider in action. His appearance in the trailer is only short, but it has him using his trademark Fire Force and Triple Break Supers.

With ARIKA being present at Tokyo Games Show, expect more information about this mysterious fighter from those attending the show. Hopefully, Allen is fully playable so attendees can get to grips with the high-kicking hero. Seeing as the beta for this fighter is scheduled for later this year, be prepared for potential news on when this beta test will be taking place to possibly be revealed during the Tokyo Games Show.
