It is arguable that Jin Kazama has the best punishment game in Tekken 7. Not only is his Rage Art the fastest in the game, he also has fast and powerful normal moves that can punish things as early as 11 frames.
However, you’ll have to learn exactly where these are useful, and where they aren’t. Thankfully, this handy guide exist which shows you the upsides and downsides of all his punishment and wall game options. Not only this, it shows some of the best bread and butter combos for Jin to boot.
Any avid Super Smash Bros. Melee player can tell you how important a strong ledge game is in a competitive match! Learning the ways of the ledge is is a key part of becoming a serious competitor, and great deal of high-level exchanges happen on the edge of the stage.
In part 2 of their Everything You Need to Know About the Ledge tutorial, SSBM Tutorials goes over the more advanced ledge mechanics that every Melee player should understand and improve on. The video starts by going over the nuance of ledge hopping and ledge dropping, as well as the properties of ledge intangibility. These are concepts mostly likely overheard by the casual Smash player, but this tutorial video covers the concepts more thoroughly.

Whether you’re a casual or competitive Tekken player, learning to fight effectively against Eddy Gordo can be a real pain. The moves associated with his capoeira fighting style have been called cheap, overpowered, and even dirty — but the reality is, Eddy has gone through the balancing process just like every other Tekken character.
Here to prove this point is Tekken Tips, having created a quick guide that outlines the confusing kick master’s strengths and weaknesses in Tekken 7. While the advantages of playing Eddy — like his quick backdash and deceptive, long-range kicks — may sound all-too-familiar, some of his disadvantages, like his weak sidesteps and his susceptibility to pressure, may be new information to some.
Check out Tekken Tips’ Versus Eddy Gordo guide below, and see if it’ll help you throw off a capo main for a change.
Fresh of showing off some new gameplay of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite from the Gamescom build of the game, Maximilian has posted another video. This time, he talks about all the game’s final launch roster, and some of the new online modes that were shown to him when he visited Capcom HQ.
The big news, however, is that a female monster hunter was spotted in the game’s story mode. Now for those who have been following the news around the game, a Monster Hunter character — based on the player character from the games — was one of the characters listed in one of the many leaks regarding the games roster. The female Monster Hunter herself is seen wearing Rathalos Armor as an NPC, and may be an indication that she will be one of the game’s DLC characters.
In addition to this, Max talks about the other modes, including those already confirmed by Capcom: arcade mode, training mode, and the mission mode. More importantly, Max goes over some of what he knows about the online mode. While he misses some points (we already know that the game uses GGPO-style rollback netcode), he does go over how the game has features that the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was missing at launch. One of these is the new beginner league for players up to “rank 14,” — Max discusses the implications and benefits of this in the video below.
Naoto, a brand new character to BlazBlue: Central Fiction, saw some usage in the casual and competitive scene — but maybe not as much as some of us would like. Since the BlazBlue 2.0 patch shook things up, certain characters received not only the buffs they needed, but also the tuning to their tools to open up entirely new combo paths. Naoto seems to be one of those characters.
There’s a multitude of Naoto adjustments: longer active frames on certain moves, bigger hurtboxes, several new gatlings, etc. His new combos give him opportunities to change direction with Phantom Pain. The video from Kamikaze below is an excellent primer of strong confirms that have a lot of hits and high damage. There are some really good examples from anti-air starters and counter hits.
During today’s EA Gamescom press conference, the Star Wars Battlefront 2 team revealed some game play, though this particular trailer came out a couple days ago. The official Battlefront 2 channel on YouTube should be updated with a more extensive game play trailer later.
Devolver Digital’s surprising step into the world of online brawlers, Absolver, is just around the corner. One week ahead of its release, the publisher that brought us indie hits like Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, and Downwell has showed off their latest — and likely last — pre-release trailer for Absolver:
Absolver also had a presence at Evolution 2017, showing that they are at least aware of the of the FGC’s viewpoint. With gameplay being at forefront, developer Sloclap seems to have an eye on tournaments once people get their hands on the brawler. At least, that’s the impression one could get from the massive FAQ they wrote on Steam.
King players want to land big grabs in Tekken 7. You know it, I know it, and BoxeR-King knows it. One of the toughest things for a new Luchador player to do, however, is to set up the opponent properly for a command grab. In a game with dominate movement options and lower level players tendency to rely on panic buttons, the new King player can wonder if they’ll ever land any of his signature grabs.
Boxer-King’s tutorial focuses less on technique and more of psychology: by monitoring what your opponents reactions are to various pokes, you can get information on setting up grabs. While this is true for any character, it’s particularly important for King, whom has arguably the strongest grab game in Tekken 7.
A couple of days ago, we reported on a “pseudo-infinte” found in Injustice 2. A Twitter video showed Echo|SonicFox experimenting with a deadly Captain Cold reset that looked almost too good to be true. Shortly after it was discovered and had made its rounds in the Injustice 2 Twittersphere, Active NetherRealm community member Mustard — one half of of team PNDK&M — decided to explore this “death reset” himself and explain it for the inquisitive Injustice 2 player. The results are captured in the following video.
As SonicFox pointed out in one of his original tweets, Mustard also explains that you can escape the reset by backdashing or jumping, but you will not come out completely unscathed. Also, Mustard takes note at the generous meter gain that Captain Cold gets upon completing the full reset, a benefit that just makes it seem even more ridiculously advantageous.
Usually this kind of stuff will have FGC heads reaching for the “nerf” gun, but this reset is actually a result of Injustice 2‘s latest balance patch. Perhaps it is something players will simple have to adjust to, or maybe Captain Cold just needs to chill.
YouTuber NurseLee is the man with the plan when it comes to finding setups in Street Fighter V. This time, he’s digging up tech for Zangief and providing you with a list of meaty setups to help improve your Russian grappler game.
Since it’s important to keep your enemy as close as possible, capitalizing off of knockdowns is especially crucial when playing as the Red Cyclone. Zangief’s sweep, V-Trigger and Double Lariat are three of his most commonly used moves that happen to get the opponent off of their feet, and NurseLee in experiments with all three of these in his quest for red meatys.
Regarding the sweep specifically, he notices that a Crush Counter sweep and a sweep on hit have the same timing, assuming the opponent does not choose to do a quick recovery. Check it out below as NurseLee demonstrates this observation and more. If you’re looking for tech but Zangief’s not your man, check out more of NurseLee’s videos here.
