desk performs 6-button Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition combos on 3-button Mega Drive controller

If you were button mashing in the ’90s, you are likely familiar with the original 3-button Sega Mega Drive pad (or Sega Genesis in North America). When Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition was released, a 6-button controller was launched simultaneously. Which makes sense. Street Fighter is a 6-button game. I mean, only a true masochist would play that on a 3-button pad, right? Right?

And that’s where desk, arguably the FGC’s most creative combo video creator, steps into frame. You see, the 3-button pad defaults to all punches. To switch to kicks, you have to hit the Start Button. And this is where desk’s challenge comes in: to perform normally standard (and not-standard!) combos with the additional hurdle of constantly having to hit start between hits.

THE COOL KID93 shows off a new Crush Counter V-Trigger setup for Street Fighter V’s Alex

THE COOL KID93 might be one of the hardest-working Alex players in the Street Fighter V tournament scene right now. Where many abandoned the character after a series of (bizarre) nerfs, Cool Kid continues to develop useful and frightening mixup tech for the 3rd Strike grappler.

By canceling your counter-hit sweeps with V-Trigger, Alex gets both a guaranteed V-Skill and a setup that beats 3-frame jabs. This tool, when mixed up with command grab, allows Alex to liquify his opponent’s lifebar in a few short guesses. For those in doubt of its practicality, Cool Kid even shows off in-game uses of his new setups at the end of the demonstration.

The Beefy Smash Doods show off more Metal Blade combos in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

As a follow up to their previous video showing other members of the Smash 4 cast using Mega Man’s Metal Blade in combos, the Beefy Smash Doods have gone back into the lab to see what other characters can do with the Blue Bomber’s pointy projectile. For this installment, BSD have focused on characters in the second row of the character select screen which goes from Link on the far left, to Robin on the far right.

Like with the last video, all of these combos are super situational, so only learn them if you know you’re going up against a Mega Man. I can’t wait until they get onto Kirby, seeing as the pink puffball can actually summon his own Metal Blades, once he has inhaled Mega Man.

Spider-Man, Haggar, Frank West, and Nemesis are all confirmed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

During the special Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite panel at San Diego Comic Con, a new trailer was shown off that has Spider-Man, Nemesis, Haggar, and Frank West all duking it out. The four returning characters look pretty much identical to their UMvC3 counterparts, with Haggar rocking the pipe, Nemesis shooting missiles, Frank leveling up with his camera and Spidey swinging people around with his webs.

Spider-Man does have a new Level 3 though, which has him blowing up the opponent with a web-ball full of Green Goblin’s explosives. The trailer will officially go live tomorrow, with Gamora and Thanos also featuring alongside the four returning fighters from UMvC3. The stage shown in the trailer also shows M.O.D.O.K undergoing some repairs in the background. I wonder if they’re preparing him for DLC?

This new build will be playable on the show floor at SDCC, so expect to hear impressions from fans at the convention. It’s fair to say that the leaked character list is looking pretty bulletproof now.

See Abigail shatter some spines in this special WSO Street Fighter V Session

Ahead of his release next week, Capcom UK hosted a special WinnerStaysOn session yesterday night, dedicated to the superhuman hot-rodder Abigail. Along a basic character breakdown which goes over all of Abigail’s normals and specials, this three-hour long session also shows how Abigail fares against the current Street Fighter V cast.

Based on the matches shown, Abigail is going to have a hard time against zoners like Dhalsim and F.A.N.G, as well as rushdown characters. Luckily, he makes up for his lack of quick “get off me” tools with tons of armor and his special-cancelable Nitro Charge run. His 1100 health helps too, meaning Abigail players can take some extra risks with their gargantuan health bar.

VesperArcade goes over Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Krillin & Piccolo reveals from V-Jump, talks lobby system details

As you may know, Piccolo and Krillin were recently revealed in the latest issue of V-Jump for Arc System Work’s Dragon Ball FighterZ . Their reveals weren’t the most surprising announcement in the grand scheme of things, but it’s nice to get information on their techniques and attacks. In his most recent video, VesperArcade breaks down what we’ve learned.

Also included in V-Jump were pictures and details on DBFZ’s lobby system. As he notes, the online hubs are similar to what is currently used in Guilty Gear Xrd, and he explains how Dragon Ball’s popularity bodes well for this form of matchmaking.

Black Manta leaked as an Injustice 2 DLC character by Xbox Live Marketplace

While we still haven’t seen a reveal trailer for Starfire — who will complete Injustice 2’s Fighter Pack 1 for Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners — it seems that leaks have already begun to spring for the upcoming Fighter Pack 2.

Earlier today, CabooseXBL, a notable YouTuber who covers NetherRealm Studios’ games, has reported in his latest video that the Xbox Live Marketplace has leaked Black Manta as a future DLC character, with a tab on the Xbox One’s dashboard that simply reads, “Fight as Black Manta in Injustice 2.” Though we’ve seen a very convincing silhouette of Aquaman’s nemesis, who currently only exists in the game as part of the Stage Transition in Atlantis, we’ve yet to hear anything about any of the other 6 DLC characters coming to the game after Red Hood, Sub-Zero, and Starfire have all been released.

Though any big NRS news was absent amidst the tidal wave of announcements on Sunday at the Evo World Finals, Ed Boon Tweeted earlier this month that WB Games will have a presence at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con this weekend, where last year they revealed Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle for the DC brawler. Could we be seeing a gameplay trailer for Starfire, as well as a Fighter Pack 2 reveal in just a few short days? Only time will tell. But for now, fans of Black Manta can rest assured that he will be coming to challenge Arthur Curry for control of Injustice’s seas eventually. You can see the full video — which includes a shot of the dashboard leak — as well as Ed Boon’s Tweet, below.

San Diego Comic Con takes place from July 20-23 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Mitchel discovers ability to combo into, and out of, Pokkén Tournament’s Burst Declare

Pokkén Tournament‘s Burst Mode is designed primarily for momentum stealing; entering Burst, or “Burst Declaring,” is a safe panic button on wake-up, has an invincible 0 damage hitbox that pushes the opponent away on hit, and you get temporary access to the (mostly) safe Burst Attack each character has. Because of all the stuff it does, Nintendo went really out of their way to make sure you couldn’t just immediately combo into a Burst from an non-Burst Mode state.

But they didn’t go far enough.

As Mitchel explains, Phase shift points being reset after Burst Declare, combined with lingering hitboxes and assists means you can declare Burst, then immediately combo into Burst while the opponent is hit by some disjointed attack. How useful this will be in the long run will yet to be seen, but it seems like characters with fast Burst building should be able to make use of this well, such as Shadow Mewtwo.
