Vergil’s “Random” Ground Bounce After Dimension Slash Isn’t Actually Random in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Vergil’s Dimension Slash Hyper Combo is one of the more interesting moves in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This is due to having a number of mysterious properties that affect its outcome; one such property is how Dimension Slash can sometimes allow the player to follow up with Vergil’s High Time command normal, via a ground bounce. Many players have long considered this to be a random occurrence, beyond the players control–however, new research has shown that it isn’t, and that it’s possible to consistently get the ground bounce out of Dimension Slash.

According to DownloadableCar over at the r/MvC3 sub-reddit, the key to consistently getting the bounce out of Dimension Slash is to mash the attack buttons with a specific timing and pattern. The key divides the Hyper move’s duration into 3 counts (or “seconds” as DownloadableCar explains), while starting the Hyper at a specific height out of his High Time command normal–around when his head is at the height of the opponents feet. After activating, the player must mash for one “count,” stop for another count, then continue to mash on the third count.

DownloadableCar has shared an off screen video of this, showing him getting the bounce consistently off the same (recorded) inputs. Take note however that while he confirms that Vergil can get additional lifts out of the move, the pattern changes slightly after the first Dimension Slash, since Vergil’s changes.

This isn’t the first time a supposedly random property of Dimension Slash was figured out. Initially, Vergil’s position after the move and whether he would cross players up was thought to be random, however players eventually figured out that where Vergil is can predicted.

Don’t Skip Leg Day–Watch This Chun-Li Street Fighter V Season 2 Combo Video

Chun-Li has probably been one of the most technical characters in Street Fighter V–by a fair margin–over the last year. On top of that, her ability to combo normally, added to the extensiveness of her juggle capabilities in V-Trigger mode, can make her combos an executional sight to behold.

So when you see this new combo video, you’re sure to begin thinking of hitting the gym to sculpt your thighs and put these combos into practice.

Mahjong Parlor to Pro Tour: Red Bull Looks at Bonchan’s Entry into the World of Competitive Fighting Games

Every player within the fighting game community has their origin story. Everyone has that moment where they decided that they wanted to pick up fighting games, and not just play them casually, but compete in them.

In a new episode of their eSports Unfold series, Red Bull takes a look at one such “origin story,” that of Masato Takahashi, or Bonchan as the community at large knows him.

Starting out as an employee at a Mahjong parlor, Bonchan had the sheer luck of having none other than Daigo Umehara as a co-worker. Meeting and eventually forming a friendship with Daigo, bonding over Street Fighter and eventually training together gave Bonchan the spark that lit the fire that would help him become one of the game’s top players.

Interestingly enough however, even just starting out, Daigo states that Bonchan was already good enough to surprise him whenever they’d play at the arcade after work. Future Street Fighter star discovered by a fighting game legend on hiatus–it’s almost something out of a Hollywood movie, and it shows just how interesting and diverse these players’ origin stories can be.

Of course, that’s just part of the mini documentary. Head on over to Red Bull eSports for the rest.

Ultimates Return to Killer Instinct on February 14th

Teased by Iron Galaxy at the end of the Kilgore stream back in January, they have revealed extra information on the first flashy Ultimates coming to Killer Instinct in February. In a sizable Q&A post by community manager Rukari Austin, 15 characters on the current KI roster are planned to receive Ultimates, with the first batch releasing on February 14th.

Each of the 15 characters will get one Ultimate, which can be activated by pressing Light Punch and Light Kick at the start of an Ultra Combo. You can only activate an Ultimate if you are about to win with a Supreme Victory, meaning you are still on your first health bar. Much like Ultras, Ultimates are the perfect way to really rub your victory in your opponent’s face.

The first Ultimate Master Pack will contain Ultimates for Jago, Maya, TJ Combo, Tusk, and Chief Thunder. The pack will be absolutely free to download for all KI players, with more scheduled for release in the coming months. As a treat ahead of their release, Iron Galaxy have released footage of Thunder’s Ultimate, with the final three for this pack coming out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week.

While it’s disappointing that not all characters are planned to have Ultimates, it’s great to see that they will be free to download on release. Rash has to have an Ultimate where he taunts his opponents to death, it’s only fair.

Smug Takes Justin Wong to Duff City in This Impressive Set from ESL’s Street Fighter V King of the Hill

With his main Balrog being considered one of the stronger characters after the balance changes, Team PIE’s Smug is currently one of the players to look out for in Street Fighter V Season 2. Just how big a threat is Smug this season? Well, his match versus Echo Fox’s Justin Wong at ESL’s weekly King of the Hill should provide the answer: very big.

In this ESL match, Smug and his Balrog went up against Justin Wong and his Karin. Now, while Justin is considered one of the strongest competitors in Street Fighter V (let alone a myriad of other fighting games), you wouldn’t know it based on the match with Smug. Time and time again, Smug is seemingly able to shut down Justin’s footsie game and put him in situations where all the latter can do is block and try to mitigate the damage coming his way.

The end result of this set? Smug takes a convincing ten games to one over Justin.

Street Fighter V and Various Players Make Guest Appearances in Akiba’s Trip: The Animation

Currently airing in Japan, Akiba’s Trip: The Animation is an anime (based on the video game of the same name) that’s made something of a name for itself for a number of shout-outs and references to other bits of Japanese pop culture. As such, it should come as no surprise then that an episode based on a fighting game tournament would somehow reference Street Fighter V and its competitive scene.

Now “reference” is selling the episode short. The entire premise of Akiba’s Trip: The Animation’s fifth episode is based around a Street Fighter V tournament, and there are a number of top Street Fighter players in attendance. In one shot alone, we see  can clearly see Razer’s Fuudo, GODSGARDEN Pro’s Kazunoko, and Detonation Gaming’s Itazan.

If their arrangement looks familiar, it is, as Kazunoko himself as mentioned on Twitter, based on a photo of the three of them from their stream.

In addition to this, MOV can can be seen standing to the side on one shot while someone who seems to be Tokido points out something on stage. Both even even have some dialogue pointing out how the current player spends their first match downloading their opponent.

In addition to this, one of the opponents faced by the main character, Tamotsu,is an African-American Zangief player (wearing a shirt and cap) that’s clearly a shout out to Red Bull’s Snake Eyez.

Of course, Street Fighter itself features a lot in the episode, including an homage to the Evo Moment #37.

Earlier in the episode, we get a glimpse of some old school Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting where Tamotsu first meets his rival Matsuko.

The episode itself ends with a match on stage between the main character and a new character introduced this week. We won’t spoil how that goes down. For anyone interesting in watching episode five of Akiba’s Trip: The Animation, the series is currently simulcast over on CrunchyRoll.

Black Canary Screeches into Injustice 2 with New Character Reveal Trailer

Teased by NetherRealm earlier this week, Black Canary has been revealed as the latest character coming to Injustice 2. Shown off via IGN First, she seems like a mix of Sonya Blade and Sindel, using athletic flip kicks and leg throws to dominate her opponent, along with her famous Canary Cry to stun enemies.

She can even throw a stun grenade like Demolition Sonya, incapacitating foes for a brief second to set up a combo. Her super move has her kicking opponents high into the air, before letting off a massive screech to force them into the floor and then slamming into them with a massive punch.

As well as seeing Black Canary, this trailer showed off a new Arkham Asylum stage, where players can transition from the courtyard to inside the prison, by way of knocking an opponent throw a few prison cages and a Gothic window.

Injustice 2 launches on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 16th, 2017!
