With a new iteration of the Street Fighter II series being developed and released by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch, a lot of the old school players are popping their heads out of hibernation with wonder about the game. Will they maintain what was already established through the numbered updates before? Will it be a good game? Will we get burned like a lot of people felt after the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix?
Echo Fox’s Justin Wong was at the event and able to get his hands on the game. As he played, he was gracious enough to tweet out what he learned about the game. Some things that he noted were that you can tech throws instead of soften them as in Super Turbo, characters will have alternate costumes available on the select screen, Evil Ryu has a Raging Demon, and Violent Ken has a command dash. He also noted that the execution barrier has been lowered compared to Super Turbo, and that the old character codes do not work from Super Turbo, which may denote that old characters–versions of the cast that were from Super Street Fighter II instead of Super Turbo, changing some characteristics of the characters–are absent from the game altogether.

— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Cannot pick old style of character in this build. Tried to pick Old Sagat
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Playing Classic and HD I felt the speed was different but it might because aspect ratio are completely different from both
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Akuma air fireball is from ST. Haha the range it has is super OD. Akuma confirmed broken lmao
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Violent Ken command dash can go through projectiles… You can also corpse hop with command dash for mixup opportunity. He's mad fun
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Played regular Ryu and he is from ST. No fake fireball just straight standard fireball footsie how we love him
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Balrog still the same as ST. Has charge petition and can do dash upper into super.
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
They took out Chun Li store super. Can't store the motion for super anymore
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
In ST you take the air hit you can throw as a punish. In USF2 you cannot do that anymore. You can tech when they throw attempt. Meta changed
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Couldn't get a confirm if USF2 is coming for other platforms but it's good on the pro controller for the Switch
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
I guess the way they balance Akuma was that his life is less then other characters. Lowest life Akuma always haha
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Here is Violent Ken super. pic.twitter.com/qvyfOkJi4O

Evil Ryu has F+MK which is an overhead but the animation is the hop kick from Alpha 3. Meaty makes it super plus!

Violent Ken command dash is dragon punch + Kick
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017

Violent Ken super can stun!!! Wowowowowow
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017

— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
2 Zangief Successful SPD attempts gives him a whole super. Don't know if that was like that in ST.
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
The mash throws are super nerf because of the tech system. Can't tick throw with Blanka or Balrog cause it's easy to tech throws
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
No release date for Ultra Street Fighter 2 for Nintendo Switch. Will have online multiplayer for versus. No online dramatic battle
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
Personally USF2 is going to be super fun to play casually, tournaments, streaming and etc. Cant wait to play this with you guys! MUSTBUY!!!
— Echo Fox Justin Wong (@JWonggg) January 13, 2017
The demo they had for USF2 only showcase TV Mode. Couldn't try it out with joy cons of tablet mode. Wonder how that will be? Hmm maybe lag?
