Prepare for battle in Injustice 2 with some help from these videos!
Tekken 7 may be drawing some of the new ‘n’ shiny attention away from Injustice 2, but there’s still new videos turning up to help you battle with the best out there. For example: VesperArcade has continued covering the cast with combo vids to help beginners learn the ropes; here’s one for Dr. Fate, and another for Cyborg.

Will Guy’s former master be joining the Street Fighter V roster this year?
As noted previously, the appearance of the Fortune Teller in Ed’s story mode — probably named Menat — has lent credibility to a leaked Season 2 character roster (originally distributed by “flowtron”) that named the three fighters bound for Street Fighter V to be Menat, Abigail, and Zeku. VesperArcade has already discussed Menat and Abigail; now he turns his attention to the last potentially leaked addition, Guy’s Bushin-ryu instructor Zeku.
Based on the far-right silhouette in the promo images shown (see above), many speculated that the last fighter was Garuda from the Street Fighter EX franchise, VesperArcade included. However, it has been clearly stated that the Arika characters are not available to Capcom, presently. You can see in the video below that Zeku’s previous character art does not match up as well with the silhouette as Menat or Abigail, but isn’t so far removed as to rule it out.
VesperArcade stresses that the apparent accuracy of the leak itself — calling out Akuma and Ed out in advance, combined with how neatly Menat and Abigail fit — make the strongest case for Zeku. His storyline post-Street Fighter Alpha 2 would easily account to any change in his appearance, as well as allowing for his return after being defeated by his disciple. The arrival of Ed in Street Fighter V, along with the presence of the Fortune Teller in his story mode–believed to be named Menat–has brought a fair amount of believability to the leaked Season 2 character roster that proclaimed the three remaining fighters to be Menat, Abigail, and Zeku.
In the video below, VesperArcade explores what we know about Abigail–a boss character from Final Fight. Multiple characters have already made the jump from Final Fight to Street Fighter in prior games: Guy, Cody, Sodom, Rolento, and Poison are all from the Final Fight franchise, so it’s quite reasonable that another could cross over. However, it’s the combination of the name and how closely Abigail’s big body matches the preview silhouette that lends the most credibility to the leak.

Red Bull has announced a new Super Smash Bros. Melee event: Smash Gods and Gatekeepers, taking place on September 2-3, in Los Angeles, California. From Red Bull:
Mortals, rejoice! It is time to answer the call. Today, Red Bull announced Red Bull Smash Gods and Gatekeepers, an all-new two-day Super Smash Bros. Melee major where fans have the opportunity to team up and compete with their favorite renowned Super Smash Bros. athletes.
The two day event features two formats, leading up to a final competition: a double-elimination tournament leading into Crew battles, that will culminate in “Judgement Day”–a battle captained by the Gods and Gatekeepers themselves: Cloud 9’s Joseph “Mango” Marquez, PG|Justin “Plup” McGrath, Counter Logic Gaming’s Zac “SFAT” Cordoni, VGBootCamp’s Daniel “ChuDat” Rodriguez, Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett, Tempo Storm’s Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson, Echo Fox & MVG’s Jason “Mew2king” Zimmerman and Red Bull’s William “Leffen” Hjelte.
Day 1: a standard double elimination competition for participants to qualify as the Chosen: those who are ranked in the top 32 will be placed in a draft for the final 2 open slots in the Captains’ Crew. Those not chosen from the top 32 will play in a standalone Godforsaken Tournament.
Day 2: the final Judgement Day battles to see which Crew will be victorious, and crowned champions!

The Miramar Mix-Up is an upcoming Street Fighter V one-day tournament in Miramar, Florida, to be held at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on July 9. 2017. The event will be double-elimination with first-to-five matches, and entry is free! (Spectators pay $1 to get in.) Participants must be 16 or older, and it’s recommended that you bring your own controller.

How to not get caught–or, how to catch your opponents–in a Tundra Storm!
Zangief enjoys a number of new additions in the latest Street Fighter V balance patch–an aerial headbutt, a new choke slam, and the somewhat unusual Tundra Storm–a counter that only catches horizontally-aligned kicking attacks, specifically. A strange move–so how is it best used? What can it catch exactly, and what can it not catch?

For Tundra Storm, your mileage will vary based on matchup–it can prove a significant threat to some cast members, while useless against others. A number of fighters have three or four different attacks–including special moves–vulnerable to the Storm. With some good timing and guts, the Tundra Storm can be used against Tatsumaki attacks, and even some V-Reversals.
No date for a patch is set yet–but improvements are promised, as soon as they’re ready.
As Crow_Spaceboy noted in our Tekken 7 review, the present system for online Ranked matches allows opponents to pick, choose, or dodge matches to the point of frustration for many players working to earn a rank up.
However, Tekken’s development team is “currently investigating” this issue, suggesting a solution is in the works, namely: “Player and opponent character will no longer be displayed when searching for a match in Ranked Match.”
Once implemented, such a change should help mitigate some of the match-dodging. There is no specific timeline to apply this fix as of yet–the Tekken team apologizes for the inconvenience, and asks we keep an eye out for future updates.
Anakin joins Perfect Legend in representing the streaming platform.
Stream.me announced today that Hoa “Anakin” Luu, one of North America’s toughest Tekken competitors, has become the latest “brand ambassador” for the streaming platform. Anakin has put in strong performances in Tekken titles and placed high at multiple past tournament series such as CEO, Combo Breaker and MLG Dallas. He’ll now represent Stream.me at upcoming fighting game tournaments in 2017-2018, including the next CEO and Evo.
“Joining Stream.Me’s efforts to revolutionize the broadcasting community as their brand ambassador is an incredible opportunity,” said Hoa Luu. “I’m looking forward to sharing Stream.Me’s platform with my followers and the fighting game community at large as I compete this season.”
This continues to grow Stream.me’s esports roster; they signed three-time Evo champion Carl “Perfect Legend” White back in March 2017.
