The Beefy Smash Doods list their five new mode requests for Super Smash Bros. on Switch

The Doods offer their wishlist for new gameplay options in Nintendo’s upcoming Smash hit.

Super Smash Bros. games tend to have only a few gameplay modes utilized by the competitive scene — memes re. Fox only on Final Destination notwithstanding — but Nintendo isn’t shy about packing the games with lots of other ways to play than just the basic stock or timed battles.

We can expect the same in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title for the Nintendo Switch, and the Beefy Smash Doods already have some ideas on what modes they’d like to see introduced in the next Smash. How about an “Iron Man” character-elimination face-off (already present in Project M)? Maybe the return of Target Test — but with an added stage builder? The introduction of a move-cancelling Turbo Mode? They describe these ideas, and more, in the video below.

Welcome the new Mayor of Metro City with this extended cut of Cody’s preview theme for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

New, moves, new threads, and new tunes for a returning fighter.

Cody’s reveal — and his new job as Mayor of Metro City, apparently Haggar’s flawed solution to keeping Cody out of street fights — has gone over pretty well, presenting a fighter that brings old tech in along with some interesting new ideas. And his moveset isn’t the only thing that’s updated for Street Fighter V: his trailer features a new theme for Cody that — like his gameplay design — mixes old and new together.

VesperArcade uploaded this extended cut of the trailer’s preview theme for your enjoyment, while you wait for the mayor to arrive:

Tyrant and Packz go into The Lab to explore how to defend against Cammy in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Learn to better protect yourself from the former Killer Bee’s sting.

Cammy is arguably among the strongest characters in Street Fighter V. If you’re facing a Cammy player that knows her tools and abilities well, you’re in for a tough fight: her speed, range, and pressure/mixup options are formidable.

And while her strengths are making her a more frequent pick for many, if you want to stay in the “beat them” instead of “join them” category, Tyrant and Packz have teamed up with Red Bull Gaming Sphere London to bring us a new series called The Lab, in which they’ll look at how to improve your defensive game in SFV — and Cammy is the first test subject. In the extensive video below, they examine her strong points in detail, and explore what your options are on the defensive side.

Akuma is selectable in online Super Turbo Ranked matches in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

Expect to see the original Raging Demon appearing in your Ranked matches — or just use his power yourself…

Early copies of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection have found their way out into the wild, and since the online servers are already open for those that have access to the title, something that many players have wondered about has now been confirmed: in online Ranked for Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Akuma — the game’s hidden boss character, outright banned from tournament play — is indeed selectable.

You need to use the classic arcade code to unlock him — which is a bit tricky, but hardly much of a deterrent against using a character pretty much universally recognized as too broken for competitive play. Many Super Turbo enthusiasts will argue — with merit — that this will seriously damage the online balance for this title. Will Capcom take notice and make changes after launch? If he’s unlockable in this build so close to launch, odds are the developers don’t see much of an issue with Super Turbo’s Demon raging around online.

VesperArcade breaks down Cody’s changes as shown in his reveal trailer for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

A closer look at what we can see so far of Cody’s “unique” political platform.

Cody’s new Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition incarnation has been revealed, and is coming to SFVAE on June 26th. As short as a reveal trailer is, it can tell us a lot about what to expect from a new character’s gameplay — and VesperArcade wastes no time jumping in to analyze what we’ve been shown of Cody’s new and returning abilities.

He comments that in the trailer, Cody’s overall animation appears slightly improved over what we’ve seen from prior Season 3 fighters, fitting for a hard-hitting street brawler (Sakura and Falke have both come under criticism for floaty, “soft” move animations). Zonk Knuckle and Ruffian Kick are still here, but no more Criminal Upper (outside of his “Criminal Punisher” Critical Art). He talks about how his V-Triggers look interesting to use, points out how his new target combo draws from his Final Fight moveset (as well as looking very useful), and more in the video below.

Cody — the new Mayor of Metro City — steps into Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on June 26

Cody busts outta jail once again — and takes Hagger’s job!

As promised via a series of teases over the weekend, the closing of Street Fighter V top 8 at Combo Breaker 2018 saw the reveal of the official Cody gameplay trailer for Arcade Edition, giving us our first good look at the next Season 3 DLC fighter. In between some live-action atmosphere setting, you can see both familiar and unfamiliar moves from the returning fan-favorite — including how his trademark weapons return in the form of V-Triggers.

Cody comes dressed for success in his new role as Mayor, launching with four alternate outfits — include two “Nostalgia” costumes, the second based on his classic Final Fight origins. While the Battle costume will be included in the Season 3 Character Pass, expect to be “taxed” a bit (for the good of Metro City, certainly) to fight with the premium Nostalgia or Final Fight outfits.

Expect Cody to join the Street Fighter V roster on June 26th!

UDON’s Street Fighter Summer Sports Special is now available for pre-order, features six different covers

A new collection of pin-ups with a new theme is coming from UDON this August.

UDON Entertainment is taking a slightly different direction with this year’s summer pin-up comic: this year, the theme is sports in the sunshine with the Street Fighter Summer Sports Special #1. This new one-shot is coming in August 2018, and will be available with six different cover options. Description from UDON:

Volleyball! Basketball! Surfing! Swimming! The lovely ladies of Street Fighter are back for a new summer sports-themed pin-up special! Veteran World Warriors like Chun-Li, Cammy, Rainbow Mika, and Sakura welcome newcomers Menat, Kolin, and more!

Yuyu joins team UYU as a Tekken 7 competitor

A classic Tekken talent returns to the arena!

Long known in Japan’s Tekken scene as a strong player in prior days, Yuyu made a return to the spotlight in Daigo Umehara’s Kemonomichi 2 event, where she battled Tanukana in a down-to-the-wire Tekken 7: Fated Retribution FT10 exhibition match — and a Xiaoyu mirror match, at that! Yuyu emerged victorious — which was good, as reportedly she had stated a loss would mean she would give up Tekken altogether.

Now, after putting her competitive pride on the line at Kemonomichi, she is returning to international competition as part of the UYU esports team!

This might just be the best combination of team prefix and player tag in FGC history. Watch for Yuyu to be a serious threat in the Tekken brackets at this weekend’s Combo Breaker 2018.
