See what made the Street Fighter Alpha series stand out in Street Fighter history!
After a look back at the origins of Street Fighter itself in their prior retrospective video, Capcom now turns its attention to the groundbreaking sequel/prequel series, Street Fighter Alpha. James Chen returns to walk us through this showcase of what each new Alpha title brought to the franchise — in style, story, and gameplay mechanics.
Of course, we’ll be playing these games again when Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection arrives on May 29th! Now that the Street Fighter II and Alpha series have been shown off in retrospective videos, expect to see Street Fighter III further stretch Street Fighter’s horizons in the near future.
Looks like Cody is almost ready to break back into Street Fighter.
The time is drawing near for another character reveal for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — if Capcom’s social media channels are any indication. As per their usual form, they’ve updated their avatar images on Facebook and Twitter to something that many fans of a certain Metro City brawler have been waiting to see…
Cody is possibly the most-anticipated returning fighter for Season 3 — outside of those that still bend the knee to the King of Muay Thai. While an updated avatar doesn’t promise anything, the timing is ideal to drop a trailer for Cody at this weekend’s Combo Breaker 2018; not only is it a big FGC destination and a fantastic event to begin with, but it is the next Premier event on the Capcom Pro Tour circuit, so keep your eyes peeled for a little something extra after the Street Fighter V top 8 has played out!
Increase your power level with these Dragon Ball-branded controllers.
The Razer Panthera fight stick has proven very popular as a controller for serious fighting game enthusiasts — amateur and professional alike — and has seen multiple Street Fighter V-themed editions after its initial release. But Razer has taken note of the incredible popularity of Dragon Ball FighterZ, and has revealed that players are now able to show their love for DBFZ even more clearly with a new Dragon Ball FighterZ-themed Panthera!
Featuring DBFZ-themed top panel art, a new case color scheme, and Dragon Ball-styled pushbuttons, this new version of the Panthera sports the same technical build as its predecessors, using Sanwa Denshi parts. Xbox players can rock this dragon too, as Razer has also announced that a new edition of the Atrox is also available to match.
UPDATE: The initial wave may already be sold out, as they are listed as “out of stock” on the Razer store. We’ll keep an eye out for restocks, and on other Razer retailers.
Your own unique controller, delivered to your door.
Arcade Shock is already a well-established FGC source for replacement and custom controller parts, but they’re getting ready to take it a step further this summer with the launch of their Colors Customization Arcade Stick service: a new fight stick shopping experience that allows you to customize a controller part-by-part as you buy.
The service will allow automated selection of customized parts and graphics, as a customer places the order for their controller. Here’s how it works:
Choose the “shell” of the arcade stick from current Arcade Shock stock — such as the HORI RAP 4 Kai, or Qanba Obsidian
Choose the lever: Sanwa Denshi, Seimitsu, or HORI
Choose the balltop
Choose your pushbuttons (change 30mm or 24mm options, or both)
Choose the shaft cover
Add a PhreakMods “The Link” if desired
Add an EZ Mod Kit to applicable arcade sticks (for universal compatibility)
Add custom panel artwork, applied by the Layers FGC Team
The customer will be able to click on any part of the arcade stick at any time and make changes as they choose, until they’ve completed a custom design they’re happy with. It’s a “freestyle” selection process.
COLORS Customization Arcade Stick Service – COMPLETE
– Custom Graphics – Lever Type – Balltop Type – Pushbutton Type – Link Type (Phreakmod) – Even add an EZ Mod to it
The customer’s customized stick will be modified by Arcade Shock staff (labor cost will be included at checkout) and shipped right to them — so if you want a fight stick that’s uniquely “you” but aren’t that handy with modding it yourself, this is your chance to have it done for you as you buy. The service will launch on June 21, 2018.
Combos to remind us that the boss of South Town is not to be taken lightly.
The slippery warp-striking Prince Noctis might be the newest flavor in Tekken 7 DLC, but we mustn’t forget that Fatal Fury‘s South Town boss Geese Howard is still a force to be reckoned with, as guest characters go. In the combo compilation below, tmd02 seeks to push the limits of Tekken’s combo system and offers up some impressive damage, nasty wall carries, and interesting uses for Geese’s Rage Arts and meter. Practical? Debatable, but watching Geese crush life bars like this is a fun reminder of how hype we were to get him as a guest fighter in the first place!
“I’ll take you on! Gather the strongest guys you can, and come at me! I’ll beat every last one of them!”
If you’re picking up Dragon Ball FighterZ for the first time, learning Goku (Super Saiyan) is a great place to start off strong. Like Ryu to Street Fighter, SSJ Goku is pretty much the model for the game’s basic mechanics, and naturally serves as a good foundation to build your game on.
To that goal, rooflemonger can help you fight even further with the Dragon Ball star via these video guides. Study up on Goku’s combo possibilities, and then expand your gamplay with rooflemonger’s sampling of tips and tricks!
“Ain’t there somebody who can stop this fighting machine?!”
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is almost here — and hype is building for players to get easy access to all of these Street Fighter classics in one package. And one series that continues to attract attention — and retains an dedicated fanbase — is Street Fighter Alpha.
The Alpha titles (Street Fighter ZERO in Japan) not only added new characters and lore to the Street Fighter franchise, but developed and built upon gameplay mechanics that have shaped the series right up to Street Fighter V. For this highlights compilation, LiangHuBBB shows off a gathering of clutch moments and hilarious interactions from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 — the titles that garnered the strongest competitive followings from the trilogy — that help remind us why these games are still fan favorites in Street Fighter history. Face it straight!
Does that whet the appetite to play these arcade classics again? Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 29th!

Are even more Final Fantasy characters coming to a Bandai Namco fighter?
YouTuber Dynasty has offered up a tantalizing but questionable rumor, based on a supposedly leaked internal agenda document for the upcoming E3 2018. The agenda reportedly includes a reference to a SoulCalibur VI reveal trailer that will introduce not one, but three prominent characters from Square-Enix’s fan-favorite Final Fantasy VII: Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth.
How likely is this, really? Well, Square-Enix and Bandai Namco are already on pretty good sharing terms lately, seeing as the latest DLC fighter for Tekken 7 was none other than the star of Final Fantasy XV, Noctis. And while three additional guests from a single property may seem extreme, SoulCalibur is no stranger to guest fighters, and lots of ’em. But why Final Fantasy VII in particular? Clearly, Square-Enix has a strong interest in promoting FFVII to build and retain interest for the in-development Final Fantasy VII remake, which is also expected to have some new footage revealed at E3 this year.
As Dynasty points out in the video, Cloud had been a contender for inclusion in SoulCalibur II already. And this isn’t even the first outing for these characters in a Namco 3D fighting game: all three of them were included in the PlayStation version of the DreamFactory-developed Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring, along with three other FFVII characters (only Cloud and Tifa were in the Namco-published arcade version, however).
So basically, this rumor isn’t outside the realm of possibility — depending on how hard you believe Square-Enix wants to push the FFVII franchise, and how amenable you figure Bandai-Namco would be to throwing three FFVII characters into their upcoming title. Alternatively: maybe only one of the three is coming as a playable fighter, and the trailer description in the agenda is a red herring? We won’t know for certain until E3 hits Los Angeles on June 12-13, and this “leak” is confirmed as genuine, or killed outright.
Evil Ryu, Akuma, Dan, and others… a lot was locked behind codes in the arcade era!
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection — expected to arrive in a little more than a week, on May 29th — will include “arcade perfect” versions of virtually every Street Fighter main-line title ever made. This includes games like Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior’s Dreams and Street Fighter III: New Generation — titles that hid playable fighters behind codes à la Akuma in Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
In the video below, CCW|MRpeck324 looks at how to access these fighters in the Alpha and SFIII arcade titles. As the Anniversary Collection aims for authenticity, we can expect that these codes will carry straight over to their respective games — though we won’t know for certain until the game hits store shelves.
Characters that can be unlocked:
Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior’s Dreams – M. Bison, Akuma, Dan
Street Fighter Alpha 2 – Evil Ryu, Chun-Li (classic costume)
Street Fighter III: New Generation – Yang
Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact – Akuma
