Street Fighter V version 3.030 patch datamining reveals unlisted balance changes for multiple characters [UPDATED]

Some surprise balance tweaks were seemingly snuck in with the new DLC fighter, Falke.

When the new patch that brought Season 3 fighter Falke into Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition started making the rounds yesterday, it was discovered via datamining that Falke wasn’t the only thing added to the game. “Stealth” balance changes have apparently also found their way into this update.

While seeking data on the Neo Shadaloo newcomer in the version 3.030 patch, datamining revealed that Capcom also snuck in some adjustments for Ryu, Laura, Akuma, Abigail, Zeku, Sakura, and Blanka. You can see a list of these changes (and some links to resources, as well as Falke-specific data) in the tweets below:

On the official Capcom Fighters Network version 3.030 update info page, there is no mention of any balance changes being made to SFVAE in this patch; they do, however, reference a minor change to Extra Battle and a fix for the reported login issues that have arisen since a prior update:

Following server maintenance on April 25, 2018, Street Fighter V has been updated to version 03.030.

● The following DLC is now available.
— Character: Falke
— Additional Costume (Story): Falke
— Additional Costume (Battle Outfit 1): Falke

● Other
— Added the difficulty to the Extra Battle explanation text.
— Addressed the problem that you can not log in under some environment.

We hope you continue to enjoy playing Street Fighter V.

Be they buffs or nerfs, it certainly isn’t a good practice to make additional balance changes mid-season without official word to the players — but it unfortunately isn’t a new practice, either. Hopefully Capcom openly clarifies what exactly it has altered in the 3.030 patch soon.

UPDATE: … And Capcom has done exactly that, by releasing updated patch notes on the Capcom Fighters Network.

Learn a little more about Bandai Namco’s and Square Enix’s collaboration to bring Noctis Lucis Caelum to Tekken 7

Some more behind-the-scenes details on Noctis’ journey into the Tekken arena.

Following up on the prior interview video, Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada and Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata are back to shed a little more light on how the feather-haired, Armiger-wielding Prince of Lucis from Final Fantasy XV became a selectable DLC fighter for Tekken 7. In this video, they discuss how development was delegated between the two companies — including how different parts of that crazy reveal trailer were prepared by Bandai Namco or Square Enix teams in a collaborative effort.

Noctis Lucis Caelum is available to sling swords and spells in Tekken 7 right now.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition servers down today for maintenance & addition of new DLC character Falke

For Falke, the day she escaped Shadaloo was the most important day of her life…

… but for us, it was Tuesday. And as usual for incoming new content, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will shut down the servers today from 11:00 a.m. PT to approximately 5:00 p.m. PT for maintenance and the addition of the latest Season 3 character.

The “Guardian Hawk” will be be available for purchase once the servers come back up — or she’ll have landed in your game already if you picked up the Season 3 Character Pass. Have a look at her reveal trailer, her V-System, her move list, and some analysis of what she can do from VesperArcade while you wait!

Combonauts and Persona Entertainment show off what Blue Mary can do in these combo exhibitions for The King of Fighters XIV

KOF combo enthusiasts explore the potential of the returning fan-favorite fighter.

Alongside the other fighters that arrived in The King of Fighters XIV‘s latest patch as DLC, returning fighter Blue Mary has proven unsurprisingly popular. Combonauts wants to demonstrate Blue Mary’s combo potential — and with some generous use of Max Mode, we can see the generally impractical (but entertaining, naturally) far reaches of Blue mary’s combo game here.

The King of Fighters XIV has a version 3.01 patch on the way to correct some minor bugs that came along with Blue Mary’s arrival.

See some of the stylish combos that Street Fighter V‘s latest patch has made possible.

Zeku came out fairly well in the latest balance patch for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition; while he was always a very technical character with interesting combo abilities, more freedom as to when he can cancel into Shukumyo — and transform between his old and young personas — has added a big injection of style and swagger to his combo game. Check out the entertaining compilation video from LiangHuBBB below, and see for yourself how this patch has taught an old ninja some new tricks!

The video includes some classic gameplay with Zeku’s Bushinryu Street Fighter Alpha-era disciple, and some amusing bonus footage from Fighter’s Spirit 2018.

More information on “Last Hit” — the upcoming comedy film featuring MMA fighter Elias Theodorou, Justin Wong, Kayane, & Luffy

“The story of a dude who just wouldn’t give up.”

We learned a while back that several FGC competitors and personalities were joining Canadian MMA fighter Elias Theodorou in the production of an FGC-themed comedy called Last Hit. Aside from learning that fighting game competitors Justin Wong, Kayane, and Luffy, as well as commentator Zhi Lang Chew, were joining Theodorou in the movie — and its general premise — not much was made initially known about the project.

Rather than already being in production, it seems the Canadian-based film is actually taking the crowdfunding route. From the press release:

Nero Films Inc. is proud to announce the Indiegogo fundraising campaign for Last Hit, a new fighting games comedy starring Canadian UFC fighter Elias ‘The Spartan’ Theodorou and featuring fighting game community legends Kayane, Justin Wong and Olivier ‘Louffy’ Hay. The film is scheduled for release in 2019.

Directed by Gary Hawes (assistant director, Interstellar, Juno) and written by Kyle Francis (Shadowrun Returns, The Swift Life), Last Hit follows Denis Bergeron (Theodorou), a charismatic MMA fighter who lives for his sport. But when Bergeron sustains a humiliating career-ending injury, he turns to videogames as a distraction — and stumbles into the world of competitive fighting games, where he encounters toxic gamer bro and Street Fighter V champion Chris Ballard. With the help of his sharp-tongued physiotherapist Suzie and lovable trainer Davey, Bergeron vows to defeat Ballard once and for all at one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the world, the Canada Cup, and prove that his warrior spirit can’t be broken.

Highlights
• Is the first comedy feature film to be set in the rapidly growing worlds of fighting games and MMA, which both have Internet-native fandoms
• Marks the lead acting debut of MMA fighter Elias Theodorou
• Features cameos by FGC legends Kayane, Justin Wong and Louffy

While we’re not sure what to make of an SFV champion being described as a “toxic gamer bro”, I suppose we have to remember it is intended to be a comedy! An interesting point to note is that while the Indiegogo page lists Wong/Kayane/Luffy/Zhi as part of the cast, it does not indicate the roles they will play — and the press release lists them as featured cameos, so their screen time may be more limited than we’ve expected. As the character Bergeron is planned to face his rival at Canada Cup, it is also unsurprising that Canada Cup organizer Lap Chi Duong is listed on the Indiegogo page as a Co-Producer for the film.

Last Hit also has a Facebook page now; you can read more about the project, the cast and crew, and their crowdfunding efforts on the Indigogo page, or on the Nero Films website.

Novriltataki explores how public perception can bury games before they have a chance to build a following

Is it just easier just to spread more hate than give a new game a fair shake?

Social media has proven a double-edged sword for the FGC: for all of its networking benefits, it is as prone to mob mentality as any other Facebook or Twitter bubble. In the video below, Novriltataki discusses how the darker side of social media — specifically, the snowballing of (potentially unfounded) negative opinions against a game — can shut down a title and prevent it from getting a fair shot at building its own community. It seems much easier for the general online public to jump on the hater bandwagon, rather than listen to fair praise (see: shills) or reasonably consider a game’s strengths against perceived failings.

Novril offers examples of games that have suffered due to negative perceptions that were carried over before the titles even hit store shelves: distaste for fan-service preventing players from looking into Dead or Alive 5‘s mechanics; the expectation of incredible difficulty making Virtua Fighter 5 unappealing to potential newcomers; and the now-infamous case of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
