Dragon Ball FighterZ beta sign-ups are delayed until August 22nd, with the beta running from September 16th-18th

Bringing in direct competition with MvC:I, the beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ is now scheduled to run from September 16th-18th. To make up for the delay, Bandai Namco are promising to add at least one extra character to the beta. Fingers crossed for Tien.

Frame 2:
Both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be playable at VSFighting 2017

If you’re really hankering to play DBFZ, VSFighting 2017 in the UK will have both it and MvC:I playable! With the tournament already being part of the Capcom Pro Tour, the Tekken World Tour, and the Injustice 2 Pro Series, you’ve got yet another reason to come.

Rock out or chill out with the new music from the latest Street Fighter V DLC update

Street Fighter V delivers on great new tunes from Tuesday’s update.

Ring-Of-Pride-CPT-Stage

This week’s massive Street Fighter V update brought a pile of new costumes, but also this year’s Capcom Pro Tour stage (the Ring of Pride), Ryu’s classic Suzaku Castle stage, and new character Abigail with his Metro City Bay Area stage in tow. New stages and characters mean new music, and this batch was a solid one.

VesperArcade helps us reminisce with the latest version of Ryu’s stage theme, and the driving rock theme for Metro City suits Mad Gear well.

Xuses brings us extended cuts of Abigail’s head-banging theme music, and the appropriately epic-toned rock anthems from the Kanzuki family stadium, the Ring of Pride.

Check out some of the games that rocked the Evo 2017 Indie Showcase

Fresh new games from independent developers that you’ll definitely want to take notice of.

No longer just the world’s biggest fighting game tournament, Evo has become a hotspot to show off new software to the fighting game community, and this year had one of the hottest lineups to date. The Indie Showcase is now a recurring feature, bringing players and indie developers in touch with each other. For those who were unable to attend Evo this year — or attendees that might have missed some of these titles — Justin Woodward of The MIX reached out to us to break down a selection of the promising titles that were on display. From Woodward:

At previous Evos, the Evo Indie Showcase has been a hotbed of exciting indie titles geared towards the fighting game community, and the booth’s space at Evo 2017 was no different. Presented by The MIX, the booth offered fans the chance to get hands on time with dozens of awesome games, some of them presented to the public for the very first time ever. Here are some of the major highlights from the Evo Indie Showcase, with descriptions pulled from the booth’s website!

Bounty Battle: Presented to the public for the first time at the event, Bounty Battle is a no-holds barred brawler that lets players face off against a cadre of their favorite characters from a wide assortment of beloved indie games!

Absolver: Absolver is an online multiplayer combat game where players are placed behind the mask of a Prospect under control of the Guides, the new rulers of the fallen Adal Empire, who will determine your worth in joining their elite corps of Absolvers. [Absolver is currently available to pre-order on the PlayStation Store, as well as for PC on GOG.com. – Editor]

Coffence: Coffence is a fast-paced hybrid between fighting games and twin-stick shooters for up to four players. Players must wield their cup into battle in an attempt to empty their opponent’s coffee while protecting theirs in various locations ranging from an office building to a pirate ship. Coffee is literally your health bar and every hit you take ejects it up in the air for anyone to claim, creating dramatic reversals and tense stand-offs. Coffee is more than your health though: it’s also your source of power. Sacrifice a sip of your precious beverage to tap into the infinite power of caffeine to unleash a powerful secret technique known as the COFFEE BREAK.

Punch Planet: Punch Planet is a competitive sci-fi 2D fighter with a rich and immersive story, spanning a universe of exotic planets, advanced cities, and alien races. Developed by 3 longtime competitors in the fighting game community, Punch Planet is a fighting game with a solid foundation of competitive mechanics while also introducing a new depth of story, humor, and design. Nidhogg 2: Return of the wurm! The next installment of the epic award-winning dueling tug-of-war is coming! Destroy your opponents with all new moves and weapons across ten different arenas. All in all, the Evo Indie Showcase was a hit, and offering up a great deal of exciting indie games of which that fans couldn’t get enough. Bounty Battle, one of the games on display at the event, is set to begin its crowdfunding campaign on Fig.co this week. Street Fighter V servers down today; Multiple new stages, costumes, and Abigail incoming

Online functions will be unavailable while a massive content update is prepared.

Today is the release date for a large amount of new SFV content: new character Abigail is joining the roster, and is bringing the Metro City Bay Area stage with him; the Kanzuki Family Stadium CPT stage and the Champion’s Choice CPT costume for Guile designed by Liquid|NuckleDu; Ryu’s classic Suzaku Castle stage from Street Fighter II and nostalgia costumes for Alex, Ibuki, and Juri; and the new sports outfits for Laura, Ibuki, and Rashid!

Return of the King! UDON has a Street Fighter Origins: Sagat mini-series in the works for 2018

The King of Muay Thai has been gone for a while… but not forgotten!

Fans craving some more action from the absent ex-Heavenly King of Shadaloo have something to look forward to in 2018, as UDON Entertainment’s Publishing Director Matt Moylan tweeted the news that UDON is working on a four-issue Street Fighter Origins: Sagat mini-series, in the same vein as the excellent Street Fighter Origins: Akuma from back in 2013.

The Capcom Pro Tour North American Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds hits Boston on November 18-19

Two Street Fighter V series converge at The Castle!

Red Bull has announced that the Capcom Pro Tour North American Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds will take place at The Castle in Boston, MA, on November 18-19, 2017. According to Red Bull: “The art-deco style of The Castle in Boston will provide a fantastical backdrop for the tournament. This historical landmark is reminiscent of the Street Fighter V “Union Station” stage, giving attendees the opportunity to feel like they are in the game.”

Starting on Saturday, November 18, hundreds of challengers from around the continent will gather at the two-day event for a 512-player open bracket tournament, and a chance at winning a spot at the grand finals on Sunday. The champions from the regional monthly Red Bull Proving Grounds tournaments will also get a seat at the open bracket qualifier. On Sunday, the top 7 players from the Capcom Pro Tour regional leaderboards — and the winner from Saturday’s last chance open qualifier — will then battle in an 8-player bracket for North America’s Street Fighter V top spot.

Geese Howard revealed as the next guest character for Tekken 7

Proving that they can keep secrets better than most, Bandai Namco followed the fierce Tekken 7 finals at Evo by announcing a crossover character that looks to fit into Tekken 7 as comfortably, if not more so, than his predecessor Akuma!

Frame 2:
Final Fight’s Abigail joins the Street Fighter V roster on July 25th

The arrival of this Metro City muscleman leaves Street Fighter fans mixed between confusion and amusement — time will tell if he plays well. It also essentially confirms the remaining leaked characters are a lock, so expect to see Menat and Zeku soon.

Frame 3:
The wurm still hungers: Behold the new Nidhogg II pre-launch trailer

Still not sure if I’m sold on the new cartoony art style… but I’m still interested to see how the follow-up to Nidhogg feels in action.

Piccolo and Krillin join the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster

Following Trunks’ trailer at Evo, Bandai Namco have announced that veteran Z-Fighters Krillin and Piccolo will be joining the DBFZ roster. Both will be playable in the closed beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ, which feature nine characters in total.

Frame 2:
Windjammers flies onto PS4 and PS Vita on August 29th

Following its beta earlier in the year, everyone’s favorite high-speed competitive frisbee game is coming to PS4 and PS Vita next month. With DotEmu trying to make this version of Windjammers esports, could we see it at next year’s Evo?

Frame 3:
New Super Smash Bros. for Wii U update adds Cloud, Corrin, & Bayonetta amiibo support, no balance changes

Smash 4 players were shocked when patch 1.1.7 dropped out of nowhere. While many (me included) were hoping for balance changes, the patch just added support for the remaining Smash amiibo. Guess we’ll have to wait for the Switch version for true balance tweaks.

Frame 1:
Shoryuken interview: Omito, the Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 World Champion

Although they didn’t get the coveted finals day slot, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2‘s finals were among the highlights of Saturday’s proceedings. Eight great Japanese players waged war on one another, and though my personal favorite, purepure, fell short, Omito was a worthy champion. This is a great interview that shows just how confident he was of winning.

Frame 2:
Jubei is coming to BlazBlue Central Fiction and ASW announce crossover fighter, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

Although the announcement of another tag team fighter in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is extremely exciting, the real news here is Jubei. It’s been a long time coming, but I’ll finally have the chance to play my very favorite BlazBlue character, and the hype is real.

Shoryuken interview: Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori from Arc System Works
